Neymar is easily one of the best in the world and is going to be the next Balon d'Or winner after Messi/Ronaldo. He's been a great player even since he was 18-19 and he was destined to do these things at a young age.

They're gonna be paying him around 50m/season * 5 seasons. Thats a quarter of a billion dollar contract. He can fund a whole country with that so he can guarantee a great future to his family + friends. He also will live in one of the best cities in the world and will also play in the Champs League.

222m may seem too much to us today, like how 120 and 100m felt like for Pogba and Bale but there's a calculation made that resulted in this number. I'm sure they'll be able to recoup their money, I just know that Neymar will not be able to leave PSG though for a long time and that will be his greatest regret. Every great player would like to test themselves in great leagues.

I think that Neymar will hold on to the transfer record for a long time to come if it does happen though. No club will ever pay that much for any player unless it's going to be the new Messi and Neymar is the closest thing to it. I mean I think Man City was sold for like 150m, so you must imagine the marketing potential of Neymar. City did the same thing in investing 40m in a 19 year old Gabriel Jesus who's also destined to be Brazils next great #9. Real Madrid just spent 40m on a 16 year old that never played a professional game in his life - Vinicius Jr. - another great player who shows signs of greatness and is similar to Rivaldo in a way. The markets are changing, as are the revenues for the clubs. The quicker teams adapt to these changes, the faster they'll succeed.
Even if Neymar isn't or wont be the best player in the world one day (I think he will too), his entertainment factor is higher than any other player out there that's for sure - and that's what fans want tbh.
Giovanni Crociata (Primavera player) sold outright to Crotone for 500k. No news on whether there's a buy-back option.

What I like about Mirabelli is he's not just downsizing the first team squad but the Primavera too. Zucchetti, Hadziosmanovic, Curto, De Piano, Cortinovis, Ventisette, Crociata, Vido & Felicioli have all been sold. However, he's only retaining buy-back options on the most promising ones like Vido & Felicioli.

Idiot Galliani keep numerous ex-Primavera players on the payroll and just loaned them from club to club without getting anything in return until their contracts expired like Oduamadi.

Crociata is a very promising player. I don't know why there wouldn't be a buy-back option. It's just probably not been reported. Crociata did however thank Milan for the great last few years in a social media post when he left.

We need to follow the Chelsea model in a way where we buy promising youth players solely to make a profit on them. Players like Keita come to mind because he's on his last year of his contract and should be available for 15-25m when he's already today worth 40-45m at his young age of 22. Even if he doesn't do well at Milan, we can loan him out and he'll do well elsewhere and get us a 40-50 that we could use to spend on another great player without affecting our future budget. Chelsea have so many youngsters on their books and always end up selling some of the promising ones to fund part of their mercati. The advantage is that it also allows them to pick who to keep and who to sell... I hope we head towards that direction with mirabelli.

IMO, Keita at 20-25m is an absolute must sign even if we loan him out anywhere. It's just too good of an opportunity to let go and he has so much potential.
According to Wikipedia, 25 players across the first team and Primavera have left Milan permanently this summer. Incredible revolution.

Perfect work Mirabelli! If Galliani's the Cristiano of Directors than F+M surely must be some elite alien race who are so good that Cristiano would be considered Traore level!

yes the deal just got announced but i'm sure a buy-back/resale % clause was included. if you read crotone's announcement about him you'd think they signed messi lol.

i agree with what you're saying about following chelsea's model and believe that's the plan. i read an interview with mirabelli where he said the plan is to have observers and contacts everywhere so we can get the best players at affordable prices. that's why we hired monaco's sporting director who was the head of villareal's scouting for 15 years so has great networks/relationships already established.

i think we hired one of juventus' key international scouts (who was with marotta since sampdoria days) and have just added a key man from inter's academy.
make that 26 departures. de santis (primavera) sold outright to ascoli. no mention of any buy back/resale clauses yet.
You youngsters probably don't remember Denilson. Back in the last century he got transferred from Brazil to Real Betis for a (then) world record price, basically on the strength of one impressive dribble in the Confederations Cup of 1997. This dribble was, if I recall correctly, against Holland's Marc Reiziger , so it wasn't even against a good defender, but it was pretty damn impressive. Denilson then went on to do nothing of note except helping Betis get relegated, which was amusing. This has nothing to do with Milan per se (although Reiziger did have a cup of coffee with us before going off to a pre-tikitaka Barcelona--when I started on MilanMania there were people who lamented that we'd gotten rid of him, like he was going to take Maldini's place--haha!), but seeing the chart that Milan369 posted made me think about Denilson for the first time since 2001.
I don't think the Neymar deal will actually drive up transfer fees as it is just an outlier caused by the intersection of management with more money than sense and the player's (family's) greed. You won't have those factors mesh like that again for a while, if ever.
Good to see you post again RIO.

I remember Denilson very well. His step-overs and burst of speed was really exciting to watch. As a matter of fact, I used to always buy him in my Championship Manager game back then. Big Grin He wasn't that great in the game either Big Grin.

I disagree with what you said about the prices though. Sure, we won't see 250mil offers for players any time soon. In that sense, this is an anomaly. But evidently, the price for Bale and Pogba has cause a stir in the market. Just a few years ago, a sum of 35-40mil was considered huge. It was only exceptional and proven players that used to go for that kind of money. Now you got sides like Monaco demanding 120mil for a youngster (Mbappe) who without a doubt talented, but has had only 1 good season under his belt. If Kluivert played in this day and age he would have cost 150mil easy as he helped that young Ajax side beat us in '95. Very reminiscent of the Monaco team this season, with the only difference that they actually won.

So yea.....it won't be a regular occurance (222mil)....but the market is constantly going up and this certainly doesn't help it. As I said in an earlier post....even if it raises prices by 10-15mil....which it will.....that is quite a significant difference.
