It's kind of funny how this team seems to go through these whole sale changes every year and yet the results seem to be exactly the same. Boban and Maldini were criticizing Milan management for years, and then they come in and they approach mercato just like their predecessors. We have these obsessions with some average players, spend months on one target with no real progress, constantly switching personnel/formation/tactics and treat the beginning of the Serie A season like it is training camp. Does that sound familiar to anyone? I bet you Galliani would've been proud of the work being done around here by this management. I mean, what serious coach is going to change his desired formation after one game? And what serious coach plays almost every player he had out of position? This team is just laughable at this point.

I always believe Maldini Boban has different method of acquiring players. And i believe Correa is actually a smokescreen to something else. They'd still accept Correa for sure, but it's one of those "we only have this much money, can't pay it more. If you agree, then good. If you don't, it's fine." But i always believe they're actually not chasing Correa. I'm not trying to overthink it, but Maldini Boban tend to get players out from the media claims.

Krunic, Bennacer, Theo. They're not linked with us, but suddenly a heavy contact without any competitor to sign them. While on Correa case, i believe he won't arrive. Media got blindsided by this "strong interest". I'm sure there would be 2 more players coming in. Names that probably we wouldn't think of.

I kind of disagree with this. What really separated us last year from 4th was any level of depth. Aside from Zapata, a lot of those players (mostly midfielders) that left were right to. So far Krunic will add good depth, Bennacer appears to be a starter, Hernandez a starter (also hopefully get rid of Laxalt too) and Leao is a possible starter depending on formation. With regards to coaching, Giampalo was to bring substance that we lacked since Allegri. We will really see what we have with him after the international break. If we still don't play with any clear style, we don't play our new players and Giampalo gives another weakling post match comment we can worry.

I'm not convinced by Lazio or Atalanta. Even less so with Roma after their summer sales. We have a good chance for fourth but this is gonna be a big test for the manager. Once we get back in CL, it will make it easier to attain those bigger name players.

Bass Doust from Sporting Lisbon Portugal

Means Andre Silva's transfer to the Portuguese club might be related

Irrelevant. If you had been following anything you'd know Sporting had already signed Vietto because they were expecting to sell Bas Dost. Doesn't mean they won't take him on loan though. But the sale of Bas Dost would be separate to the decision to loan Andre Silva.

we'll see. everyone reporting so far that there's interest but no offer.

100% CL would have given us access to a different caliber of player.

I really like De Paul. Not sure why he's not getting looked at.

Also, on Eriksen, I dare say his sale hinges on James' sale. If James finds a home, Real will buy Eriksen.
We could try make a deal but it would need to be a loan with obligation to convince Real and we'd need to convince James to come.

My Guess is the biggest spanner in the works this Mercato has been the lack of a buyer for Suso.
I think both club and coach we're hoping to sell him and reinvest the money on a CM or CAM.
there is still time but it's looking more and more like we'll be stuck with our dead wood for at least another 4 months.
Damn! Let's not put the season in the graveyard just yet guys. It's the first game with the same team as last year. I commented on the tactical issues (imo) in the game thread...but even so, i saw a different dynamic in the team once Bennacer came in. I expect a different dynamic with Theo as well.

I think the market has been good. Too bad we didn't see its influence in the first game. But even a blind man would see that Borini, Samu, looks like Suso (in a 4312), Rodriguez and Hakan have no place in this starting 11. Let's hope that MG, for his and our sake, will also see this once the group is all together and training for a while. Currently we have Bennacer (Hakan), Kessie (Borini), Bonaventura (Suso), Theo (RR) and Leao (Samu) to replace those 5. That's already exponentially better even without signings.

Obviously, there is time left and we are all hoping for some sales and purchases. Selling Silva and Suso should be the priority. Reppacing them with a SS and ACM should be a given at that point.

Btw, i don't know about anyone else, but i'm very interested in the possibility of signing Aurier. He would add a totally different dynamic down the right side.

If we can have Silva out for Correa, and Suso out for James, that would be amazing.

I like Aurier... BUT... we're currently sitting on 5 wingbacks and Aurier would be #6.
Unless Conti is leaving, I don't see why Aurier is necessary. I'll also add that I wouldn't let Calabria go. I still think he has plenty of room to improve.

Agree 100%.

I also would not let Calabria go. Until 10 days ago, i would have said the same about Conti. But then I saw the Aurier links. I think the idea would be to get Aurier with a loan + option, while letting Conti also go on loan so that he can play regularly and hopefully rediscover himself. If Conti stays, then clearly that equals no Aurier move. I would also only allow Conti to go if we can get Aurier on loan (with option to buy). I would not loan out Conti and invest 25mil in the outright purchase of Aurier. I think that € could be spent elsewhere this summer.

Allowing Conti to go on loan is only an option if he could be replaced. Aurier provides that option, and not only that, but he is currently a better player then Conti (and probably Calabria). This also solves our "Conti problem". By that, I mean we have a player in whom we invested 24mil, has now had 2 back ro back ACLs, and now finds himself as a backup and nowhere near getting back to form. We don't know if he'll ever get his form back, but by sitting him on the bench (and rightfully so as Calabria is the more balanced player now) we are not even allowing him the chance to get back to form. All the while that 24mil investment is slowly melting away.
Aurier offers a nice little option to solve all of this. Then, next summer we can see where we are. Will Conti get back to form? We can just take him back and not invest in Aurier then. OR, if he has a good season he can be sold for a good price and that can be reinvested in Aurier (assuming he also has a good season here on loan).

I would prefer to buy Elseid Hysaj(that guy is on the market for the last 2 months). Napoli was ready to sell him for just 20M. Aurier has always been Injury-prone guy.
Conti has better technical skills than Calabria. If i'm the coach, Calabria should be a ball-winning midfielder. He can't dribble, he can't cross, he can't make sharp passes, what he does best is tackling. According to these stats, he'd better suited to be a ball winning midfielder really.

But then again, since Cutrone is also sold, i don't see the need and favoritism for primavera product. Better sell Calabria and give chance to Conti.

100% agree with this. Dry loan Conti and Loan with option for Aurier would be good.

after 12 months we'll have options.
They both play average and we go back to where we started.
They both play good(then we have a good problem)
One performs better than the other and we either keep Conti, or sell him and Sign Aurier.
But if we don't have the option in there we'll get screwed. If he kills it they'll double the price.

I don't mind Hysaj but not sure what the deal is there. there was "so much" interest yet he's still at Napoli.
