No to Lamela, obviously.

I am wondering if we did well by letting Andre Silva go... We still are looking for a CF, and the dude has scored 24/28 games.

Lamela would have been an option ten years ago.

Rebic has done well for us so far. I think the swap worked well for everyone involved. Silva wasn't settled here, and remember, with Ibra in the squad, he'd only be on the bench, lose confidence even more and likely not give much in return. He would not be the same player for us as he is for Frankfurt. 

I think we should forget about him. It wasn't going to work here at that time. 

Having said that...even though it's understandable that sometimes it just doesn't work out for multitude of reasons.....those reasons should never be confidence. The club and the coach should show this to the players and show belief. Of course, the player and their mental attitude plays a big role too. 
But the reason I'm saying this, is because we are constantly being reminded what confident players look like vs ones that have lost that due to little game time, etc.

So my biggest concern now is Hauge. We have seen Silva turn into a good player with confidence. We have see Paqueta do good things for Lyon with confidence. I don't wanna see Hauge go somewhere else and do the same. The kid has great ability but took a hit mentally....and the club and Pioli have to carry some responsibility here.

The issue is a long standing one. The squad is 20 something players so of course not everybody can play all games but when you pay 38 million for a player you should be judging him on the pitch. If from the start he is not getting games hire better scouts then. Silva is far from the first player that just joins a new team and suddenly there is a speculation about attitude or something. It's not like Silva played regularly for a year then he got less games after that.

If Hauge is a back up fine but when in injury crisis his position is being filled by a Krunic (for balance or whatever reason) then it is ok to question it, was he bought for when we don't need balance and/or no injuries? Makes no sense.

Most importantly, I am not a 'fan' of the idea that a player get used to a new league on the bench. May be it works out eventually cause the player is already good in football and in learning a new language to communicate but bench is not a growth setting, if that makes sense.

It depends on how good you are, how confident your coach feels in you, and of course some random events too. Kaka started right away. Inter bought Sneijder and Mourinho started him right away in the derby. Even crazier, we bought Desailly in a weird time (October? November?) and he played right away. Some players didn't even get acquainted with him. If they are THAT good, we are THAT desperate, or the coach is brave, it will happen.

Imagine if Hauge was a RW, I bet he would be getting tons of time now.

Hauge needs to play more narrow with quick passing and using his large size to shield the ball. He is too slow on the wing. That is obvious for all to see.

Regarding Rebic vSilva. Rebic and Theo were two big reasons why this teamed turned things around after lockdown. Rebic really turned it on but together they finally gave us legitimacy on one side. It freed up our back two mids as well to not have to cover for Theo as much. Silva would be a CF so by definition of his position couldn’t do that.

Silva is doing well in Germany where it isn’t that competitive. He may have needed that to grow as his development was slow here and in Spain. Like Pac-Man, he is doing well in France but this just wasn’t the environment for him to grow.

Hauge is scared. Simple as that. He does not play with instinct. Why? Because he is scared of making mistakes and has very low confidence.

Again, take what we see from him now, and compare it to what we saw when we played Bodo/Glimt. That was a player that was free. Played with his instincts. Moved all over the field. Came deep and picked up the ball. Found himself centrally, got the ball is some space, did NOT even think about it twice, just took a touch and hammered it in the net from 20 yards out.
Even in his first few appearances with us. He got the ball, didn't think much about it, just played. He moved centrally, tried to combine with others, wasn't "glued" on the wing.

Then...it all changed.

I understand there will be debates whether he is good on the wing, or better in the center, or whatever else. We can get there and to that debate. But I think it's pointless to have it when talking about a player that's simply OVERTHINKING his playing. The kid does not want to make a mistake...so he'd rather play the ball back, play it safe, take extra touches, etc. And it's because he knows that if he does make a mistake, he won't see the field for the next 2-3 games.

It's a chicken before the egg or vice versa type of thing. If you are Pioli, how do you insist on playing someone that won't take risks and is "apprehensive" in his movements.
On the other hand, if you are Hauge, how do you take risks if you know that it may result in extended bench time.

In Hauge's case....I do think time will give its verdict. Getting close with his teammates, enjoying his football, playing without fear, playing with instincts. If we are a couple years in and we still see what we see....then maybe it's just not the environment or he's not good enough. But Pioli has to play his part too. Stop using Rade fuking Krunic on the wing for example.

Hauge suits more to the AC Milan Feminile side...for now, until he becomes some guts
