Hey everyone, just decided that this young 18 year old talent deserved a thread of his own. I know many of us maybe a little pessimistic due to the fact that we expected something from Salamon, which didn't work out very well. However, I think this player has what it takes - above all, he's showing the best of his abilities at any opportunity he's had so far.

First off, Milannews reports that the recent U20 world cup saw Vergara playing more minutes than any other player in the tournament, with 390 minutes under his belt. Given the amount of talent Colombia is producing, that's rather impressive IMO.

Here is also a clip of a soccer specialist speaking of him.

Essentially saying that he dominates on the field in his age group, and is by far the strongest CB in U20 competition.

Also another clip showing some of his contribution in the tournament, most of it consisting of his stellar appearance against France u-20.

Hope to see great things from this player in the future.
I've heard a lot about him, so I'm curious to see him properly (youtube clips aren't the best way to judge players).
He will fit right in with his hair style
Seriously, as long as this guy doesn't prove to be another Galliani's non-EU masterpiece (i.e. he was bought simply to waste one non-EU spot), I would be happy enough. that is, hopefully he can actually play two or three games in the new season.
I posted this on mercato thread. Suffice to say that my first impression on him was, well, not impressive.

Verghara's performances in group stage drew praises but I didn't see anything special in him. Columbia totally dominated the game but he seemed to have terrible reading of the game and was easily lured out of position the few times the Koreans launched counter-attacks. He didn't seem to be quite sure whether to defend in his line or to go out trying to put early pressure on the striker, often choosing the latter and when he did their defense was exposed resulting in clear chances for the Koreans.

Halfway through 2nd half he played further upfield, more like a mid, and to his credit, twice he managed to dribble his way up until he faced the GK but then wasted both chances. All in all, pretty average display IMO.

He looks quite nimble and can use both feet. We can train him. And yeah, like Gabriel said: good hairstyle Big Grin

Good post, I agree that he didn't play very well in that game I managed to watch highlights and I saw him caught out a few times just from an 8 minute video. Again though, very young and what interests me most is his set of talents. Positioning and reading the game, being some of the most important features in a defender, he does lack but only because of inexperience (naturally). On the other hand, I think he could be a great defender one day just based on the fact that he has a rather complete skill set for doing so. Good with both feet, moderately fast, strong, tall, good with his head. To be completely honest.. sometimes he reminds me of Zapata, good feet but sometimes just some clumsy errors.
Looks like Vergara will be loaned out to Bari in January to make room for Rami. So much for this youth project. Salamon 2.0
Hey, don't lose hope on our youth project. I am sure that Galliani will buy another promising (or not) non-EU kid before the end of season, then we all can start dreaming again. Okmilan
Loan with option to Livorno
