Week 24: Milan - Udinese (Sunday, February 7 - 15:00 CET) - Mystik - 02-05-2016

We are currently two points off Roma in 5th place. They play Sampdoria who theoretically could provide an upset even though they are quite inconsistent. We seem to have established a solid first 11 who I assume will be starting this game as well. I have attached the football-italia preview below to get the ball rolling.

Can we begin to dream again...?

Quote:Milan will be hoping to make it three wins on the trot as they welcome Udinese to San Siro this Sunday.

A win over Inter in the Derby della Madonnina was followed up with a hard-fought victory versus Palermo midweek has Siniša Mihajlović’s side – and Rossoneri fans – feeling a bit more confident as they hope to chase down a European football spot. This is only the second time all season that Milan have been able to win back-to-back matches (the first was against Udinese and then Palermo) and they have only earned nine points out of nine on one occasion (against Sassuolo, Chievo, and Lazio).

Victory against Udinese would move them ahead of Roma into fifth – albeit temporarily – and will certainly help to lift the spirits of everyone involved with the fallen giants this season. Two seasons without featuring on the continent have left fans and the management – namely vocal president Silvio Berlusconi – restless and although there are many more games left to play, earning another three points on Sunday will help them to move one step closer towards their objectives at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, gone are the days that Udinese were battling the “bigger sides” for third place. The steam appears to have run out of the Zebrette, who finished in 16th last season and are not doing any better this time around. With just one win so far in 2016, Stefano Colantuono’s troops suffered two back-to-back humiliating losses against Lazio and Palermo and whilst they have bounced back with stalemates in their past two games, the feeling around the Friuli camp is certainly not one of optimism.

Both teams will be gunning for all three points in this fixture for vastly different reasons. For one side, a victory after a long spell of bad results can do wonders in revitalising their season. And for the other, they will need all the positive momentum they can get, especially given that there is a tough clash with Napoli looming on the horizon.

Keep an eye on: Carlos Bacca (Milan) — Whilst most of the focus has been on Gonzalo Higuain’s exploits with Napoli, Carlos Bacca has been quietly proving his worth to the Rossoneri cause. The ex-Sevilla man has netted in the team’s past four league games and appears to be building up a good understanding with youngster M’Baye Niang in attack.

Form guide: Milan (W W D W D) Udinese (D D L L L)

Last season: Milan 2-0 Udinese

Stat fact: Out of Udinese’s 12 away games so far, only two have had them leading at half-time; by contrast, they have been on the losing end at the half-time break in six of their matches.

Milan (probable): Donnarumma; Abate, Alex, Romagnoli, Antonelli; Honda, Montolivo, Kucka, Bonaventura; Bacca, Niang

Suspended: None

Udinese (probable): Karnezis; Wague, Danilo, Felipe; Edenilson, Badu, Lodi, Kuzmanovic, Armero; Zapata, Thereau

Suspended: None

We have to keep the momentum up. Another win is a must. We are "only" 6 points away from 3rd, but with a stumble against sides like Udinese, those 6 points can quickly become 8/9 and it's way out of reach again.

This week we got:
Bologna - Fiorentina
Verona - Inter
Roma - Sampdoria

It's hard to say what'll happen in those games.Bologna has been in great form and from being doomed towards relegation before Donadoni, they are now incredibly in the upper half of the table and just 3 points away from Lazio and 4 from Sassuolo/Empoli (who are the teams behind Milan). So its not going to be easy for Fiorentina, but I can see this being a draw.

Verona finally got their first win of the season last week and they are unbeaten in the last 4. This is make it or break it for them. The next 4-5 games will either give them some hope to fight or they'll surely be relegated (not mathematically) even in February. I'm hoping that they can build on their win and spank Inter. (or at least get a draw)

Roma will be without De Rossi and Naingolan for sure. Sampdoria is flirting with relegation. They are only 5 points above the relegation zone and they just sold one of their best players, Eder. Montella has had a hard time and they've lost 4 of the last 5 games. Hopefully this will be a turning point for them. Roma was very lucky to get the 3 points at Sassuolo so hopefully the football gods will even things out and take at least 2 points away from them this time.

I don't think we can count on the other teams to lose points, but as long as we keep earning our own, I am happy.

Udinese is no longer the team from many years ago, but any arrogance and lapse of concentration could be costly for Milan. I hope that Mihajlovic will make sure that we approach the game with the right attitude.

It's good that we've made a significant gap between us and the teams below. We should focus on our next couple of games, Fiorentina faces Bologna this week and it wont be easy, then next week they get Inter. To be honest though, I see Inter dropping below us in the coming weeks. After they face Verona, they have Fiorentina,Sampdoria and Juventus back to back.

Like Xu said though, we shouldn't count on other teams losing points and focus on our own games, the standings will speak for themselves after.

Not so great news: Bonaventura has a problem in his right leg. His condition will be evaluated tomorrow through a medical test. Remember when he had to miss Atalanta game? They totally kicked our ass. Sad

I'd put Kucka where Bonaventura is and start Bertolacci at CM. Prince and Menez for subs.

It could be a chance for Bertolacci. This guy possesses natural talent.

Am I the only one who thinks that the main reason for Serie-A down fall is that most of the games are broad-casted on Sunday instead of Saturday? Saturday is like the greatest gift ever in this world after a beautiful loving and caring wife (Catherine Zeta Jones typle looking). Bottom line is fans would enjoy a Milan vs Inter game more on Saturday evening / night knowing that tomorrow they could get up at 1:00 pm after celebrating all night and not worrying about going to work. At Sunday evening, the joy of rest day is almost gone out of the window. So where is the fun in that? La Liga, Bundes Liga and EPL are not stupid,... they are doing it and hence getting full advantage in terms of business as well as the entertainment factor.
