RE: Summer Mercato 2019 - WCmilan - 07-10-2019 I have a lot of faith in this mercato due to who we have running things now. Boban especially, the man who has identified and publicly ridiculed all of Milan's many flaws in their dealings is now in charge of them (or has a part to play at least). If there's one thing I gather of Boban, he's not here to make a fool of himself. Don't expect much RE: Summer Mercato 2019 - porcho - 07-10-2019 (07-10-2019, 01:55 AM)nefremo Wrote: When handing out salaries, we have to be careful not to overpay. We always wonder why we can't sell players, and many times it's not because there aren't buyers to pay the transfer fee.....rather it's the fact that there is no buyers willing to keep paying these guys 2/3+ mil net. Bennacer was apparently getting paid 400k at Empoli. The other interested team was Fiorentina and they were only offering 1mil. We were offering 1.2 and raised that to 1.5+bonuses that can take it up to 2mil. At this point, I don't see why we should keep going up, because if Bennacer doesn't work out, which mid-table team will pay him 2mil net salary? We'll be stuck with him. Bennacer still has a lot to prove. If he does well, I'm sure it won't be an issue to renew and raise that salary to 2.5-3mil or whatever. But the point is, although it would suck to lose out on a good player for 1mil a year, we have to be disciplined. Yes, I know, it sucks that Antonio Donnarumma is getting paid 1mil to sit on the bench as a 3rd GK. I know Bertolacci was getting paid 2.5mil for nothing. I know many many players have inflated salaries. But that's just the problem. We have to fix this and be smart about it. The mistakes form the past should not be repeated and hopefully we can slowly get rid of them. This proves your point. the Reason he was getitng paid 2.5m to do nothing was because no one was willing to match his wage despite there being interest in the player. end result... he sat there on the bench getting paid. Same goes for Montolivo and Mauri. (07-10-2019, 01:59 AM)WCmilan Wrote: I have a lot of faith in this mercato due to who we have running things now. We'll see in the next year or two whether that faith was misguided though. RE: Summer Mercato 2019 - reza - 07-10-2019 We all want lower wage bill and good resale value but 1.5~2 is not overpaying for anybody. Unless we bring some unknown Serie B player or I join Milan RE: Summer Mercato 2019 - porcho - 07-10-2019 (07-10-2019, 02:20 AM)reza Wrote: We all want lower wage bill and good resale value but 1.5~2 is not overpaying for anybody. Unless we bring some unknown Serie B player or I join Milan 1.5 plus bonuses is fair. But I think 2m flat rate is pushing it... it's not quite the Bertolacci unsalable situation but it's close. of course there is more to the story... if Benacer fails and we sell him in 12 months, clubs would consider matching his wage remembering his pre Milan form. Where we have traditionally gone wrong is holding on to those players for too long where they are no longer worth anything as well as being on a high wage... Not to mention the idiocy of re-signing a player who was finished on a 3 year deal only to have him sit on the bench gaining 3.5m for 2 seasons. RE: Summer Mercato 2019 - sylrus - 07-10-2019 and that strategy work for berto porcho? look at him, no one wants to even buy him after his 1st miserable season at milan. because of what? his salary, so no, over paying a salary for a good proven star is one thing, but for someone that didnt even make his team stay in serie a is ridiculous imo. Like I said. 1.5m is fine. 2m pushing it for Benacer. As for Berto. We didn't try sell him after the first 12 months which is my point. Had we cut our losses after 12 months and tried selling him off we wouldn't have been so bad. instead, we kept him for 2 season's. tried a loan with option which was never going to work because Genoa was never going to pay his 2.5m salary. RE: Summer Mercato 2019 - nefremo - 07-10-2019 https://www.capology.com/serie-a/payrolls Take a look at that website. As a reference, Chiesa at Fiorentina earns 1.7mil and his value is said to be 50+ mil. But here are the highest paid players for the following teams: Empoli: Francesco Caputo - 600k Frosinone: Marco Sportiello - 600k Chievo: Giaccerini/Djordjevic/Tomovic - 700k SPAL: Petagna - 1.2mil Udinese: Mandragora - 1.2mil Parma: Inglese - 1.2mil / Gervinho - 1mil Atalanta: Papu - 1.6mil / Duvan - 1.5mil / Ilicic - 1mil Sassuolo: Matri/Consigli/Berrardi - 1mil Genoa: Lapadula - 1.5mil / Criscito - 1.2mil Cagliari: Pavoletti - 1.2mil Fiorentina: Muriel - 2.3mil / Chiesa - 1.7mil Sampdoria: Gabbiadini - 1.5 / Praet - 1.4mil Bologna: Destro - 2mil Torino: Belotti - 1.8mil / Sirigu - 1.7mil Lazio: Immobile/Leiva - 2.3mil / SMS - 1.8mil That is 15 Serie A teams, and at 2mil per year, Bennacer would be the 4th highest player out of all those 15 teams. He would be by a good amount the highest paid player on 12 of those teams while for one of them he would be equal highest (Bologna). Now tell me....if Bennacer fails at Milan, which one of these teams will be willing to pick up that salary of 2+mil that he apparently wants?? Salaries have to be earned. You can't immediately start making 2/3/4 mil just because you play for Milan. And the reason why some of these guys even ask for that to begin with is because we've dished out salaries like blind in the past. We can keep making the same mistakes....or we can turn the page and do things the right way. I don't mind handing out big salaries to big players or players that prove themselves worthy of Milan. But not to everyone. Ivan fuking Strinic makes 2mil here. Pepe Reina, a back up GK, makes 3mil. Lucas damn Biglia makes 3.5mil. Even Jose Mauri makes 1.4mil. We are making multimillionaires out of garbage. We have the 2nd highest payroll in the league. It's INSANE when you see the performances we get in return. To put all that in perspective, Napoli pays Allan 2mil, Ruiz 1.5mil, Zielinski 1.1mil and paid Diawara 700k. Nobody, other then us, Roma and Fiorentina is in talks with Bennacer. No way Fiorentina will give him 2mil. Roma might, but I don't think they are crazy either. So why would we just pay him 2mil? He can stay in Empoli then. Keep making his 400k a year and play in Serie B. No other club in Italy (outside of Napoli/Inter/Juve/Milan/Roma) will get even close to 2mil and most won't even go past 1-1.2mil. We have made a (more then) good offer at 1.5mil + bonuses. He can take it or leave it, if you ask me. RE: Summer Mercato 2019 - porcho - 07-10-2019 (07-10-2019, 03:09 AM)nefremo Wrote: https://www.capology.com/serie-a/payrolls Pretty much this. With those three, I'd add that the extra salary is an incentive to join Milan vs others as they came on a free. Free transfers always come at a greater cost. Not saying they deserve the it though, just providing an explanation for those players. Biglia on 3.5m was a mistake but I'd say it was what would have been needed to convince him to join us which proved to be a huge mistake. No one will pay him 2m but Roma might pay 1.5m... Difference is, we can provide him more game time than at Roma. Agreed with that. That's why I said I'm happy with 1.5m... it's the cost of being in the situation we are where we need to add the extra incentive to convince some of these guys to come over. But, as you said, it should be take it or leave it. We shouldn't wait around for him either. We've made our offer. He's thinking about it. We should start looking for a Plan B.
