R16: Brazil - Chile (June 28, 2014 - 18:00 CET) - Mystik - 06-26-2014

Here is the first Round of 16 fixture for the weekend! Brazil vs Chile promises to be a mouthwatering tie with Chile probably coming into this game playing the better football IMO. It's a pity that these two really great teams have to meet each other so early but that's the way tournaments go sometimes! This Chile team definitely has what it takes to knock Brazil out but I really don't want to see what will happen in the country if Brazil gets eliminated.....

This is worth a read - the bad blood between Brazil and Chile. I remember seeing this news on TV, absolutely shocked.

It says a lot of the quality of this Chile team and their intensity that Van Gaal felt necessary to cede the possession (they recorded 32%) and play counter-attack. He said that if they had played with their usual 4-3-3 then Robben and Lens would have had to run after the Chileans for 90 minutes and they just couldn't do that.

Brazil is going down! - Best-Pundit - 06-27-2014

How can anyone give Brazil any chance against this resilient team of Chile? This Chile will be too hot and spicy for Brazil and its not so big stars. Brazil 0-3 Chile Okmilan

I think when all is said and done, as good as Chile are, I think Brazil should just edge this. This scenario reminds me a little of 2010, when Chile were under Bielsa and with essentially the same group, but struggled against Dunga's side. The biggest issue Chile face is that they're defence is very suspect and they don't necessarily manage games, but just continue with their one philosophy, which you need to at this stage.

I also think this is where Brazil will either step up or fail badly. I think Scolari has shown in past tournaments (particularly 2002), that while his sides don't always impress in group stages, they tend to step up once the knockout rounds come around.
