Summer Mercato 2016
Even if we could get a suitable partner for Romanogli, I still think we should keep Alex for at least 1 more season, he could be useful backup. Im not sure why Calabria is on the unsure list as he just made his debut this season, while he showed positive signs as a youngster, plenty can be improved. The rest of the list is understandable.
Gazzetta says Alex may leave rather than be let go to go play in Brazil. Calabria would be sent on loan to get experience, as like Jose Mauri, he's barely been used this season.
I wonder if the Gazzetta article is based on fact (actual plan for the team next year) or just opinion (what the editor thinks should happen next year). If it is indeed the plan we are going with, then I would at least take solace in the fact that we are keeping our core of Donna, Roma, Bona and Bacca around. with the deficit the way it is, it wouldn't have been very surprising if those guys were being sold to raise cash.

It's interesting to see Niang and Berto on the uncertainty list. Niang, to me, is someone we have to keep around. Bacca needs a partner of his skillset, and he is too young and talented to sell right now. He is not the most consistent performer we have and he still has holes in his game to fill, but that will improve with age. As long as we can keep his head straight off the field (and get him a driver so he doesn't touch the wheels of a car again), he can blossom into a star. Berto, on the other hand, should be gone. He was a classic under achiever his entire career until last year at Genoa. We overpaid for him because the Genoa connection and his passport. There is, to me, no reason to drag on a proven failure longer than it has already lasted. The guy is not mentally strong enough or technically capable enough to be a difference maker on this team. And he will probably never be able to live with the pressure of a $20M man.
Donna, Romagnoli and Bonaventura are not going to be sold, even B&G are not that bad.
Donnarumma and Romagnoli wont be sold, not even our management is that stupid like reza said.

I think Bonaventura deserves much more credit in this team, I'd even make him captain. He's so underrated, he never loses the ball his dribbling his fantastic, his shooting is good, his passing is good. He's a complete, very good player.

The X is where I believe we need to invest in. The players currently occupying those positions: Alex/Zapata, Kucka/Bertolacci, Honda, Niang. Yes these players have all have god spells but they've all had bad spells too. If we want to compete for the title....which is what I think we SHOULD aim for as we ARE Milan, than I believe we have to get more quality in those positions. That doesn't mean that we get rid of the above mentioned players. Some can stay an be rotation players or work better and maybe win back a starting spot, who knows. But as is right now, imo we need more quality there.

To further elaborate, Honda for example has been good for the last couple of months, but for me it's simply a preference. I believe we need someone with more cutting edge out on the wings. Someone better in 1v1 situations and someone who will be a constant threat in the final third. As good as Honda has done, he is still not a wide midfielder imo. I have to say that he works hard for the side however and that's always welcome.

Niang is one that just needs more time. He's got quality but consistency is an issue. Even in his good spell this season after coming back from injury, he would disappear from games and would barely be able to last physically past 65minutes. We can't afford to have both our attackers not contribute too much on the ball. I believe we need someone behind Bacca who demands the ball more, likes to make the final pass more, can finish in and outside of the box, good 1v1, etc. Niang can maybe be that player in the future, but I wouldn't put my chips on him at this point. Now he is even more of an unknown because of this ankle injury that'll keep him out for 2-3 months.

Alex/Zapata just have to be permanently replaced by a long term partner for Romagnoli.

Kucka is a tank. He really is. I was never a huge fan, but he has won me over and I want him to stay in the side. He has a role to play. But again, he is lacking in many other football qualities that are needed for that position. He takes too long on the ball because his speed of thought is not there. He often finds himself dribbling out of trouble because of this problem. He works very hard and is everywhere, winning 50/50s all over the place and that is always good, but the lack of technical ability is really missed in our midfield. We can't play under pressure and give the ball up because of this. Kucka also doesn't possess the vision to let someone lose in the attacking third with a good pass and he doesn't have the ability to spread the play with long passes either.

Bertolacci on the other hand just simply hasn't been good enough. He can stay in the side as I'm not sure we should give up on a 20mil investment after one year, but as things stand, anyone thinking he can solve our midfield problems has to be wrong. He's shown nothing. I, too was one of the people that thought he can solve some of the midfield problems, but that hasn't been the case. I wouldn't be mad if the club decided to cut the losses and reinvest whatever they get back.

The players in parenthesis are the ones that we can scrape by with for a little while longer. I'm not ecstatic about it, but realistically we can't change the entire side. (or can we?)
If good opportunities arise I wouldn't mind upgrading these players too, but I don't think they are a priority at this point as long as we get improvements in the other positions I mentioned.
They are not stupid but they are greedy. Very greedy. Never underestimate that. If offer is high enough $ mark will pop up in their eyes and goodbye Donna ,goodbye Romagnioli.
Avaiting forĀ arrival of exorcist into our boardroom.
Nefremo, I agree on every area of investment. I also don't think its impossible, we'll generate some saved wages and a nice little budget between selling Menez,Adriano and El Sha upfront. I'm pretty sure with a few more $ from our pocket that can bring in a capable LM and a second striker for behind Bacca. Unfortunately, I dont think the sales of anyone else will bring much money in. Diego Lopez and Mexes will leave on frees if we're lucky because of age, wages and recent performance. Then Poli we may get a few million for.

I would try to sell off Bertolacci for close to what we bought him for, even 12-15m (Back to Genoa lol?).
Getting 20 mil back for Bertolacci would be like winning the lottery...but also just as unlikely.

Before it's all said and done, I really want to see Bertolacci in an advanced position behind Bacca. Now that Niang is injured and Balotelli/Menez haven't done anything to deserve a minute on the field....I would like to see Monto/Kucka as pivots with Bertolacci just ahead free to make runs into the box and support Bacca.

It should also give us more solidity because we get really stretched with this 4-4-2 at times. The midfielders many times push up together and leave a gap behind them...and too many times for my liking we see the other team running straight at the heart of our defense. The fact that our CMs lose the ball the most (when they should be losing it the least) doesn't make things any better in this aspect.

I'm not saying we should scrap the good work we've done so far and change formation, but this might be our best option right now. It also shouldn't change the shape all that much anyway.
My only doubt Bertolacci up front is that, when he is put under pressure or challenged, he loses the ball rather quickly. Will he be able to hold the ball and spray it around when he spends most of his time in the enemy half, under a lot of pressure?

The way he sometimes intercepts and wins back balls, I really thought that he could be a good regista.

In any case, unless his mental state is back to normal and the pressure of his price tag is gone, there is no way to judge him without giving credence to those anomalies.
