2004 and 2005 teams were very close. I know the 2005 team got to the final,andon paper had a better team (Stam)...but the 2004 team imo may have been better. It's just that they had their brainfart vs Deportivo rather than in the final. We only lost 2 games that Serie A season. As the season was going on, we were the outroght favorites for every single game we played. And it wasn't juston paper. We completely eased past teams....probably what went wrong vs Deportivo if we're honest. 4-1 up from Italy we thought we were just going to go to Spain to show up and come back advanced.
Anyway...crazy to think back on that period and to see how we actually won the CL in 2 of those years where we weren't favorites or the best teams. In '03 Inter and Juventus were favored ahead of us. In '07, we were actually thought of as an aging team and nobody expected us to beat Utd and get to the final. We were barely scraping by in Serie A too.
On the contrary, '04 and '05 we were the best team in Europe. Hands down. Yet, no CL. In '06, we weren't performing as well and the decline of the team was starting to show, but that team was so good that even on a decline they could beat 99% of the teams all over Europe. Point being, we got freaking robbed by Puyol and the ref in that game in Barcelona. We were going to beat that Barca team and get into the final had it not been for those 2 cheating assholes. And that was the best team in Europe that season. Prime Ronaldinho and Eto.
