Diaz, for example. When they sucks they let them go and do nothing. It's simple as that. Sure, we can pretend that there is "more behind the scenes"... Be my guest I don't mind.

You said it. They want 30M for him and nobody want to pay that money. Why? Cuase he's overpriced crap player who offers nothing on the filed during 80-90% games he play. 30M for solid and consistent performer is bargain in this crazy market prices days. Noone would miss that opportunity.
Clubs sign him on loans as some backup option in hope that miracle will happen and he'll show something in more than few games during season. When that doesn't happen they return him and that's it. That's everything he is. That's everything he'll ever be...
Option or not it doesn't change point. Extend. You won't give up on crucial cog of your future success without giving as much fight as you can.

So why didn't we sign him after his first stint? You think he didn't deserve it?

We didnt sign him simply coz we failed to reach ucl that year and didnt have the money.. if we had made ucl, we would have definitely signed him.. Baka started out terrible for us.. yes.. but gradually he adapted and fit the team very well.. im quite certain if we had made ucl, we wouls have used the projected income to sign him.. Chelsea wanted alot for him too at the point.. more or less the same amount as Tomori if i recall..

Of course he didn't deserved it. He was somewhat solid last 2-3 months ,before that he was absolutely atrocious. Not to mention his disciplinary issue. Why anybody didn't signed him? Don't tell me there is no club in entire Europe who can afford 30M for "such a quality player".
Avaiting for arrival of exorcist into our boardroom.

He is far from being *such a quality player*.. rather.. he is just a solid rotational player.. probably a dm specialist at best..  systematic player.. actual valuation abt 20-25m tops.. but Chelsea wanted 28m , plus Baka himself was grossly overpaid at Chelsea.. wasnt really gonna take a steep pay cut.. we could only have afforded him if we got into UCL.. economic wise, he was too expensive wages wise and transfer fee..

He was improving steadily the longer he was with us at the time.. who knows.. he could have developed into a solid DM by now if we had managed to get into UCL and bought him.. only time will tell in this case..

They are still working on his fitness level, and I believe the goal is to have him available against Venezia.

I see Pellegri is on the bench though. Good sign.

What's with Bennacer? I know he played 2 games for Algeria during the break so are we saving him for Liverpool? I hope so...

I was hoping for Ibra to start. I hope Rebic/Leao prove me wrong here, but neither one did well enough last season when played up top. They can both do well as a SS imo, but not as the lone striker.

Good to see rotation though. It's nice to give Kjaer and Saelemaekers a break.
