I don't mind spreading Mexes's wages if that's true....I just don't know why he would agree to a deal like that. He'll surely want more...probably between 2.5 and 3 mil over the next two years. That way, there is something in it for Milan and for him. I don't see why he would be willing to make the same amount over two years when he can make it in one. If he does indeed do that...then he must really like Milanello and wants to truly help the club.
If I was Galliani I'd go as high as 2.5 a year. That way we'd pay 5mil gross this year instead of 8 and we are "saving" 3mil. Yes that means that we are "stuck" with him for another year..but he's actually very useful (just not as useful to be on 4mil a year) so I wouldn't call it stuck. He's be an asset and maybe we can even sell him for a couple million if the chance arises to.
Personally, I think if we do sign Rami (apparently it's all set and is only lacking te signatures), then we need to let go of one between Zapata and Mexes. That way we'd have Alex, Rami, Bonera, Mexes/Zapata, Albertazzi (still not sure if he'll stay or be used as a bargaining chip). If Mexes reduces his salary to 2.5, then I say keep him and try to sell Zapata...especially after the great World Cup he is having. He can easily fetch us 10+ mil at this point. That money plus the 3mil saved from Mexes's salary can go towards securing the midfielder that I think we desperately need.
Alex, Rami, Mexes, Bonera (and possibly Albertazzi) is e very good CB line for Serie A I think. Not many (if any) better then that in Italy. CL is a different story, but we don't have to worry about that do we.
