The Italians with so many Juve players hit by Calciopoli won the 2006 World Cup, so I think no.

Fourth world cup for Landon Donovan. 57 international goals. Now that is some record to have playing for a not so big footballing country. More number of goals than Batistuta, Rivaldo, Cryuff, Romario and Klinsman, wow
Argentina will win the World Cup 2022

Ali Daei scored about, how much exactly, 88 goals (?) for Iran.

Donovan has been doing it against the relatively better teams of North America, South America and European teams in the world cups and American cups.
Ali Daei record is also elite and impressive, its just that you think he is not good enough. What a shame.
I wish Ali Daei had come out of retirement and played in WC 2014

Donovan was the Best young player of WC2002. The USA did have a great WC back then.

I wish Alexi Lalas would come out of the retirement
Alexis Lalas used to score against AC Milan when he played for Padova. That was 94-95, a dark season. of course, not as dark as the current one.

Ali Daei had 109 goals, and no matter which teams he scored against, it's an impressive record.
Besides, when compared to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landon_Dono...onal_goals
The quality of the opponents are not that different. And even if you think that Donovan scored against slightly better teams, bear in mind that 109 is far (not only slightly) more than 57.
And Ali Daei had fewer caps than Donovan.
Still, both are impressive in their own rights. For instance, their international goal records are better than Maradona
