If we fail to get the likes of Martinez and Kondogbia, I can't see why bigger names like Cavani and Witsel could be convinced to join us.
In all honesty, I am okay with buying above-average (Italian) talents and promote our own youth products, and start a slow but steady rebuilding. I am even okay with a few more seasons without Europe if it means we are on a right track and move upwards. But of course, Berlusconi most likely will not allow that and I am quite positive that we will go after some really big names (not necessarily WC players) this summer and aim to return to Europe after one quick season. What I really fear is that by doing that, we will stop attracting promising players (like Mauri) and even worse, we may alienate our own players (such as De Sciglio, El Shaarawy). It would be a gamble; if we succeed then we can perhaps be competitive on the future transfer markets, but if not, we may end up with a group of mercenaries only, and after another failing season or two, we would have no hope left.
One last concern: It is not about the competence of Mihajlovic as a coach, but I am concerned if some players may decide not to join Milan simply because of him. I mean, if loyal fans like our own stitch hates him so much for various reasons, can players look elsewhere for that reason too? I don't mean to turn it into a political discussion on the forum, just merely expressing my concern.
