:)
We are made for these Big European Nights. The first side to stop Barcelona from scoring and the first one to make them taste defeat. Hardly ever does Milan fail against big opposition in our own den on a Big European Night!
Our team is getting better every single game. The suffering is there for every game as well but the confidence is getting back and the passing is getting better and better.
Stam was phenomenal I must say. I was proven wrong when I said I wouldnot prefer to shuffle the defence for this important game but IRON MAN was in a class of his own. Dare I say he even dominated Nesta! (Manuel was spot on while I was dead wrong!)
We suffered in two phases mainly. The last ten mins of the first half when we wanted to go into the half with the lead and the last 20 mins of the game when we started to defend resolutely.
This suffering IMO is good as it PREPARES our team to deal with the pressure situations. You can't create this in practice. Winning games easily doesn't prepare a team well for this kind of thing. It only happens when you struggle for the win and work hard for it.
Suffering against an explosive unit like Barcelona is not that bad IMO. After all Deco, Larsson and Eto'o had barely anything to do in the game. Ronaldinho was explosive. At one point there were 5 Milan men covering him! He is a treat to watch but he gave us nervous moments for sure! Ronnie is class. Can't deny that.
Our own Stealth Bomber is a class act nonetheless. It was gratifying to see him trouble 3 Barcelona players when he went on the run and they couldn't disposses him when Sheva took the ball out accidentally.
I loved his leap of celebration! Superb to see as a Milan fan!
A brilliant San Siro didn't let us down. 80,000 filled it which is a little more than the UEFA limit. Capacity is 85,700 but UEFA cuts down the capacity of Stadia for safety reasons. Magnificent crowd! :star: :star:
We top our group now and Milan has gone to win this competition in the last three occasions when we have got off to 3 straight wins. :)
In the big encounters there are one of two things that can give you the win. A moment of utter brilliance or mistakes by the opponent. Barcelona made three mistakes tonight. Larsson hitting the bar, Iniesta hitting the bar and Belletti not going for the header which the Stealth Bomber went for.
Rijkaard has been a former Milan player and his sentiments reflect it that he doesnot believe in bad luck. Here at Milan we do the same. We win on our own account by what we do because when it is all said and done and the dust has settled the team that knows how to win will win it and make the most of what is offered be it mistakes from the opposition, brilliant play from oneself or the art of carving out a win.
A load is off my chest as I saw my side compete with the continent's best tonight and once again as in the past passed the test! There are issues to be concerned about but tonight is a night to celebrate and be gracious in our Great side that did its job! :)
Celebrate my fellow Milanisti! Big opposition, Big Game, Big European Night and Our Big Beautiful stadium for our team to GET THE JOB DONE ... YET AGAIN is another reason to be proud of being a Milanista! This is our time. This is our night.
 FORZA MILAN

Excellent post Haroon(as usual).I think there`s no need for any extra comments because you have covered every segment of the game. And indeed tonight is the night to celebrate!
FORZA MILAN!:rone:
Excellent post Haroon, I especially like the part about suffering and how it prepares us. Even more so when you think about the derby in just a few days. :pp20:
Wonderfull post Haroon !!! :devf: :devf: :devf:
i tihnk MoM was gattuso... ronaldinhoo with all his great work couldve been 10 times more dangerous had it not been for gattuso.
sheva was class... he toyed with barca, and its been a while since ive seen him look so confident while taking on players.
stam.... wow, thank god hes a milan player.. just amazing!!! ... thank god hes back before the derby, to be honest i had doubts wether nesta AND maldini could stop adriano.
cafu, brilliant runs down the right flank, and also was back on the D when we needed him.
kaka, finally his runs of last season are almost back, cant wait for him to start scoring those long range shots, if hes back, were unstoppable...!!!
pirlo, id like to see what bayman has to say for himself, who woulda thought this little man can do such work??? he stopped attacks thru the center in many ways... by obstruction mainly... and he had a set of nice passes... great performance i think
these are then best players today for me!

Thank Galliani that Stam plays for us, actually.

I agree with Haroon. Stam was excellent tonight. He was involved in a lot of Milan's defending. With him back, our defense looks compact and more reassured although he did make shaky clearances on one or two occasions.
Nesta to my view was the best defender tonight (and probably MOM). He was all over Barca's fowards. Strong in the air, calm under pressure, Nesta mashalled the central area in front of our goal well tonight.
Maldini also had a great game. Like the commentator on SBS said (an Australian TV chanel, who was kind enough to show some of the soccer games), I was at first worried that the speed of O'to could cause our captain a trouble or two. I soon realized as the game progressed that Samuel O'to could only be a fade shadow.
Cafu was good on the right wing with his surging forward runs . The only goal of the match came from one of these runs. He was also good defensively. However, he was caught out of positions on few occasions. In one of these occasions, Nesta was left covering two men (Larsson and Ronie). Luckily, Larsson's shot hit the bar.
Our midfield was good and compact today. Pirlo, seedorf and specially gattuso were putting a lot of pressure on Barca's creative players. They helped out the defense absorb the pressure tremedously. Probably, what made the difference today was how our midfield could drop so deep to help our the defense. Pirlo was good, IMO with a lot of the delicate chipping passes. Gattuso was ever running. One thing on Seedorf though. He seemed lose the ball too often for my liking tonight.
Sheva had some great runs tonight. He scored the only goal of the match. Most Milan's goals this season so far have Sheva's contribution ( He either scored them or was involved with the build-up). He seemed mature a lot since he joined us. God bless!!! I hope he will stay injury-free to keep on scoring for us. Pippo still hadnt got up to his full fitness. He looked a bit tired in as the match wore out. Kaka is getting back to his best. He easily got past some of Barca's defenders today just by some simple changes of pace.
What i liked about Milan tonight was how we played as a compact unit. We absorbed the pressure well, covering every arc of space. The defense, midfield worked hard and the attack took their chances although chances were few tonight..
Barca could probably blame on their luck as they struck the bar twice. It was nervous moments to watch Ronnie ran at our defense. They like us are also a compact unit. I wouldnt mind having Puyol or Ronie playin for us in the years to come.
Last words from me before i go to school, WE DESERVED TO WIN tonight
FORZA MILAN !!!!
We won...Barca wasn't as toight as I thought they would be..well except for Ronaldinho.
Nice goal by Sheva. :)
A victory against Barca is awesome. Though I think Milan wouldn't have suffered at the end if Pippo's sub was Rui Costa instead of Ambrosini. That would have helped Milan keep possesion and that's defensively more effecient than sitting back and using a second "destoyer" (Ambrosini) to break up Barcas plays just outside Milan's box.
Sheva and Stam were stupendous. And Gatusso erased Deco from the game. Deco is a very good player but definitely not a fantastic player like Sheva, Ronaldino, Kaka.
Didn't see the match yet since I just came back from the office...to make it even better I just got GolTV cancelled and won't be able to watch the derby :d55:
anyway, I did read post-game comments saying that we were not very brilliant....hell, if we beat Barca without being brilliant all I can do is sit back and enjoy destroying whoever faces us when we are in form. In this case the result is what matters to me, so FORZA MILAN!!! job well done! in the Camp Nou lets go for another 3 points!

Carlos,
Get hold of Sheva's leap of celebration. You will fall in Love with Milan all over again :) I guarantee that. ;)
We weren't that bad. No worries my man. We are on the right track. As I said before ... Barcelona won't know what hit them. Regular as clockwork.
I'll check that out Haroon, thanx :devs:
great to see 'Lo Tzar' Sheva is such a great form, as for SuperPippo, I am sure he is saving his CL goal #49 (and #50) for Camp Nou, forza 'Alta Tenzione' Inzaghi!
also, two matches in a row we don't concede, great!
go on like this Milan....all the way to number 7 :firedev:
wow I'm so glad we won with barcelona 1-0 and now
we are leading the group . let us do that again we will play barcelona Nove 2
I wish we will continue wining tell
the end and win the champion league again

all players were excellence. they worked very hard and they did it. congrats sheva and milan :wan:
Well, as you know, kris, we're the 1-0 experts ;)
We could have done better to punish the Spaniards severely on counter attacks, but, as a Milanista, you have to feel proud to witness such solidarity within this team, incredible discipline and spirit of self-sacrifice. Simply a exemplary defensive outfit, our Milan :star::proud:

brilliant play by Milan ...they attacked when they needed to and defended when called upon...players were covering each other's ass very effectively IMO :D ..when maldini soo unfortunately got dispossesed, pirlo was back to cover him up....when nesta eventully loses an aerial battle, stam was there to pick up the loose ball...and when barca tried to counter after successfully tackling seedorf, gattuso was there to make sure the counter didnt go as planned...and finally in the dieing 10 mins...when Barca went all out attack...milan stayed firmly as a unit and absorbed the stinging attack with a pinch of salt IMO :ilol:
In attack..we see not only the usuals (eg seedorf, kaka, pirlo) leading the attack..but maldini and cafu coming up the flanks to orchestrate sum attractive play as well...and cafu even assisted in our only goal tt is sufficient to take Milan top of the group.
Another plus point is tt crespo and ambro manage to come out n have a gd run on the pitch and stam was having a hella of brilliant time out there in defence..he was simply everywhere :rock3: ..
So after we ended Cagliari and Barca's undefeated streak..now its time to end inter's :rocky:
We still looked a bit nervous and had some horror passes in the first half. Don't know if it was due to Barcelona imposing themself or ourself playing a bit more on the counter, but for once we was not the possesion team. altough they did not have that much more than us. Judging by chances a draw would have been the logical result, but as it was I can only smile over us drawing the longer straw and putting it in. Our problem was that we wasted possesion to often and tried for deciding balls a bit to much.
Biggest pity was probably that Kaka didn't get to put in his overhead kick, if that would have gone in noone would have questioned our win and be praising our team.
Dida 7. Very imposing and played with authority. Truth is that he didn't have to make that many difficult saves, but he easily took down crosses and let no rebounds come off him.
Cafu 7. Again he was crucial, with an assist. Was toned down later in the game, but ran and ran before that.
Nesta 6.5. Played good, especially in the first half IMO.
Stam 7.5. He was the master of positioning yesterday. He was always at the right place and stopped the ball. While Dida took the high crosses, he took the low ones.
Maldini 6.5. He suffered a lot from Seedorf being out of position all the time. They always had a man luring him into the middle to pass out to a unmarked Belletti. Maybe his personal performance deserved a higher rating, but as it was they always attacked on his side.
Gattuso 6.5. I saw a lot of him in the first half where he was his usual self, was much more quiet in the second. Barcelona didn't attack on his side due to him being more defensive than Seedorf.
Pirlo 6.5. Had two horror passes in the first half that could have given Barca the lead. But apart from that he gave us a Gattuso performance but with flair. ;) Worked really hard to cover for Seedorf and was also up pressing their midfielders high.
Seedorf 6. Probably the worst performer. While he was good with the ball and kept the ball within the team he did almost nothing creative and was out of position a bit to much.
Kaka 6.5. could drift in and out of the game, he did some really great things. Like his turn before Poyul got booked, his pass to Sheva in the first half and his overhead kick. But could also try some incredible hard passes that only gave away possesion.
Shevchenko 8. Awesome. he was more than a handful for Barcelona and scored the winning goal. He could take on their whole team at some instances. Had just his shooting been better we coud have got a bigger win. Clearly improved his chances of getting some award...
Inzaghi 6. He did good and looked like his usual self, for good and worse. Very slippery, the Barca defenders got to learn that Inzaghi isn't just a player you can easily disposses. But as he did not score nor make something special he gets a "ok" performance tag.
subs came on to late to be rated.

And so the rest !

Yeah!!!!!!! :swars:
A very important victory, Milan is 3 points ahead.
That's the good news. About the game - I'm not that satisfied as everybody.
Barcelona had several excellent chances and it wasn't Stam or Dida who kept them from scoring- it was the wood !
Their attacks were so quick that Milan had no answer.
ok, second half was a lot better, but what if we go there ?

Barca? a big impression!
They are a great team, really.
We have suffered (a little bit) the blaugrana in the end, but Milan stopped them.
It hasn't been easy, but it's not a a news (remember Athens? :ilol: ) to beat Barca.
brother Goirre, a super night for us:
In italian: "In avanti (el Barca) ci siamo mossi troppo.

super match IMo we were superior over that f*ckin braca...only Dinho played there and sometimes Larsoon ........
IMO Eto'o was too brave to attack the whole Milan defence ...... he is not able to do 4-6 defenders at once.... Deco was crap too..... stunning passes to clouds and so on.....
Belleti sometimes was menacing...his sharp passes form right corner made difficulties for our defennders......
Pippo is not worth to play in starting line up... he is a crap.... Tomasson is much better even Crespo IMO could do better......
Sheva ....stunning as usual......
Rino ...... fierce as usual.......
Kaka...... faded and poor...... do know why..........
Pirlo ...made several stupid mistakes...but generally he was great ........:D

just for my hermano Goirre
(apologize for english people)
I believe that these are a good analysis of the yesterday evening game.
I say Barca has not a striker with a killer instinct, like Sheva or Inzaghi. Larson and Etò are good players, but they are not 'crack'.
This is the answer and at the same time the reason of Barca defeat, imo.
Put Inzaghi or Tomasson in the middle of blaugrana attack,
then the music will change.
Milan :whie:
stam was MoM yesterday, by far

i agree. barca are very fast going forward and they know how to spot the weakness in our system. when gatusso is very efficient in stopping ronaldinho, they moved toward the centre and start attacking pirlo and seedorf's side. we have to move forward to force them back into their half.
i am very impressed by some of gatusso's tackles especially that one time when ronaldinho was one on one with gatusso. ronaldinho have already lowered his shoulders and prepared to dribble past gatusso instead of passing. gatusso just look at the ball, tackle and run past ronaldinho, leaving ronaldinho looking so stupid standing there with the ball taken away. :hah2:

XAVI Y PIRLO

Nesta - brilliant beside one mistake against Larsson
It wasnt even his mistake. There were two of the Barca's forwards (Ronaldinho and Larsson). I reckoned Nesta was supposed to look after Ronadinho so he followed the Brazillian. It was rather cafu's mistake. Cafu was totally caught out of position, leaving Larsson free to take his shot. Luckily it hit the bar. I rarely saw a mistake by Nesta in this game.
Great game by Milan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1-0
Barca sucks this game! :dcool:

Agree. Stam was the more spectacular, as stoppers always are, but Nesta was the sweeper holding the backline together. :star:
I'm not happy with what's being done to Maldini, though. He's no longer a leftback, he's made it clear over the past couple of years that he considers himself a central defender. He's being shunted to the side, literally, because of Stam's arrival. I don't think he deserves to be treated like this after so many years of fantastic service to Milan.
The obvious solution is to have a three-man defense (then maybe it won't matter quite so much when Cafu is caught up the pitch all the time  ), but I don't think Ancelotti will ever accept that. :(

Milan, despite not being in top form, won against a previously unbeaten Barca side that was very much razor sharp.
We can only take this as a sign that not only are we a team of skillfull players, but a team of players with a great desire to achieve.
We played with great collective intelligence, each player playing for the other, and while some players had better games than others, IMO the entire team did their best, and limited Barca to two shots off the woodwork...Dida wasnt troubled overmuch beyond those two attempts.
The second half was not as good as the first, but Acelotti had made it obvious that we would settle for the one goal, and we didnt allow them much, though we could have presented more of a threat on the counter.
All in all, I am satisfied with our performance, and look forward to the demolition of Inter on Sunday!

Well, my post match comments are pretty much the same as after Calgliari other than we have improved again.
I think that we need to work on balls put a little wide better as both times Barca hit the bar, both were very similar situations.
Anyway, we did well and lets see it continue.

Good result !
Against three attackers, our Full backs (Maldini and cafu') should play more patient and dicipline, and i saw Maldini was suffering bcoz seedorf was kinda lazy to close down Eto'o and Belletti penetration in our left side, especially Belletti, he was unchallenged and freely to deliver dangerous Crosses , in Camp Nou, this is can not happen again ! :rr30:

For Christ's sake guys - they both had a very good game. Nesta was very stable and I can't remember a mistake he made - there were some tough moments at the back for him but it was mostly because Cafu' was caught in NML and Nesta had to deal with two Barca plaers at the same time. Apart from that he was very very solid. As for Maldini, he also had a very good game and ran a lot. He took Eto'o out of the game but he did seem to go a bit too close to the center and on a couple of occasions he left the man on the left uncovered - 1) Belletti got a shot at goal and 2) Iniesta hit the bar. Maldini seemed to had forgotten that he was being played at left back and not CD. However, I can't blame him or any other player for this for he has played for quite some time in CD and it is not easy to shift your way of thinking and reacting overnight.
This being said, I think Stam was immense and formidable at the back.
