View Full Version : Will Crespo score this year?

I don't know what to say aboyt this player!Although he is a very talented player he has so many ups and downs.
He made terrific seasons with Parma and Inter but struggled with Lazio and Chelsea.
This year plays for our club and i wonder if he can find his old striking ability.Last Sunday he wasted some good chances and generally this year in the games he was a starter he wasn't good.Maybe instead of getting him this summer we should have gotten a more in-form striker.
Therefore i would like to hear your opinion about Crespo.
I read in some reviews of the derby that he played a good first half....I wouldn't know because I didn't see the first half, only the second, and in the second half he didn't do much, he was very quiet, Sheva didn't do much either, but his presence was felt more by Inter's defenders than Crespo's. Then JDT came in, and same story same, didn't do much, but then again he didn't have the ball much in the time he was in. So I think we can't judge Crespo (or any of the strikers) by the match against Inter. Now, I know he played other matches too already, unfortunately I didn't have the chance to watch them so I can't comment on his performances. But I do notice that most people is saying that he is getting better by each match he plays, and that once he starts scoring it will be all over for the opposition...I certainly hope so, but I still prefer Sheva + SuperPippo :D
The only club he struggled at was Chelsea, but who didnt there. It was a new country, new language and he went once the season had started only to find the tinker man as the manager and then he had injuries.
Against inter he was very good, he looked quite dangerous and got invloved in the build up. That flick cross was amazing, it was funny to see the suprise on Sheva's face :grinser: Crespo really should have scored, but ducked out of the challenge, not surprising since hes just come from injury. Ancelotti said after the game he is hitting top form and he does seem to look pretty confident. This Milan team has lacked two high scoring strikers (At the same time) who can make a good partnership. hopefully, these two can give us that. :diablo:
As long as I've known about Crespo I've noticed he needs time to find his groove and then once he does he's deadly. I always figure players new to any team need to settle in and learn the system. Here we're dealing with Crespo NOT being chosen on a regular basis--b/c he isn't scoring yet--but not playing regularly is what will hamper him settling in, so we have that vicious cycle going again. I've always considered Crespo one of the deadlier strikers, but one needing tme to adjust. :uhm:
if crespo plays tonight he will score
I agree with everything Debs said!
Btw. how about that Maradona pass he made at the beginning of the derby :eekani: probably the best detail of the match.
Crespo has lost his pace, and his confidence is badly shaken after a poor season at Chelsea, which perhaps was due to his inability to settle in England.
I'll be more than happy if he can score 10 or more goals this season.
Did anyone notice Milan is the only team this season with 3 Capocannoniere winners on their roster? :smileani:
I noticed.
How about we sign Hubner and Vieri to form a quintet of capocannonieri.
While we are at it, let's call Bierhoff out of retirement, and Batistuta, wherever he might be..
the easiest way must be signing Signori and Protti. :D
I remember when Lazio signed Protti. in the next daythe headline was 24+24=48.
then both players failed to score as many as people ever expected. :rotfl:

Poor? He was their second best scorer with a goal every second game he played...

Ok, I admit I was over critical about Crespo.
At Chelsea, he scored 10 league goals, as follows:
2 against relegated Wolves in a game which was already won by the time he scored. (Chelsea won 5-0)
1 match winning goal at Middlesbrough (Final score 2-1 to Chelsea)
1 against Arsenal at Highbury (though Chelsea lost 2-1)
1 in a 5-0 drubbing of Newcastle
1 against Bolton (which Chelsea lost 2-1)
1 against Fulham (Final score 1-0 to Chelsea)
1 against Portsmouth (Final score 2-0 to Chelsea)
2 against Villa (Chelsea lost 3-2, his 2nd being a consolation goal)
Apart from the 2 blowout games, his goals really mattered in "just" 3 games. In a team with a supply line of Lampard, Duff, Joe Cole, Veron and co, I expected more from him, especially someone of his track record. Furthermore EPL is a league where the man-marking is less tight as compared to Serie A.
Having said that, I'll be happy if he can score 10 goals for Milan this season, given the limited playing time he's likely to have. And I won't mind if his goals are scored against the likes of Messina, Reggina, Livorno or Siena.
i still remember when Pippo and Crespo were topscorers in 2002/2003 UCL after first round. Both had 9 goals...I wondered what if they both would be in Milan...:D now they are but bothing special...:(

Nothing special so far.
It would be more special if one of them be sheva's partner as striker.
I hope ancellotti gives more minutes in the matches to come.
Perhaps, crespo will show his capabily amazingly

Poor? He was their second best scorer with a goal every second game he played...
he came second to an aging Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink though ;) Crespo and Mutu were bought to be the first choice strikers and both of them failed in that respect.
i noticed good movements by crespo in the derby... he seems determined and with time i think hell find his form once again... i hope so... what a great player he is!

Igor Protti scored 24 goals from 33 appearances with BARI in 95/96 season. He joined Signori (who also scored 24 goals that season) to be the top goal scorer (capocannoniere).
in the next season (96/97) Protti moved to Lazio (and join Signori). He scored 7 goals from 27 appereances.
Protti now plays for Livorno.

I hope he will score. I like him.
Well the fans have started to whistle him, and he seems to have responded with some arrogant remarks about him being the top foreign scorer in Serie A.

Personally, I would be surprised if he ever recaptured his form. Last season at Chelsea he was plain average, in a side with the supply line ilgenio mentioned. He has always been a favourite of Ancelotti's, and vice versa, so that was probably the driving force behind his signing. He drew another blank against Brescia, so it's surely time for Tomasson to be given a chance instead.
Thing about Crespo is there is nothing outstanding about his game. He even said so himself, saying he "couldn't head like Zamorano, doesn't have Batistuta's right foot or Salas left foot". He isn't a superb natural talent in the way the likes of Saviola or Bojinov are. He just pokes them in from the penalty area. I know he's scored 100 odd Serie A goals, but I just get the feeling he's in decline a bit.

Then perhaps he shows that he has willed himself into being the successful player he is? Through his grit and determination alone he was able to compensate for the lack of an awesome header, a left foot of a rocket and the right of a cannon..
Granted, he does have a good header, a good left foot and a good right foot. See his curling header for Chelsea last season? Forgot against who, but it was SICK!

Crespo is an instinctive striker, and those sorts are only effective when they are hungry and confident, as they have to react without even thinking. Unfortunately it means it doesnt take much to disturb his game, and at the moment he still looks a split second out in his movement. Its still possible that if he gets 1 goal it could unleash a whole load of them but the longer this run goes on for the harder he will find it...
I never liked Crespo, IMO he is overrated, but I respect any man with the Intelligence to wear Milan's shirt. We must remember also that he came for free. If Chelsea made a deal like that is for something.
It's just matter of wait and see what happens.

the guy missed 2 penalties on two this summer i'f i remember well :(
He and the goals are like the same magnetic pools, you just can't keep them together.

he has apparently been dropped out of the Argentina squad. It's crunching time for him now. Not sure how this is gonna affect his performance with us. HE could well become more determined..or..he could hit the new slump.

exactly my thoughts.....
I still think he can have a great year with us....but he must start delivering soon ;) .....I want to think that it is only a matter of scoring his first goal...then nobody willl be able to stop him  ....well, we'll see...

then make him take a penalty
then make him take a penalty
I don't remember us having many penalties on our favor lately, but if one comes up, be sure to let Carletto know ;)
then make him take a penalty
Only if we have a comfortable lead like 3-0. Crespo is very low on confidence now, to make him take a PK when it's still 0-0 is as good as telling Seedorf to take one :delol: . In normal situations, Pirlo or Sheva should be still the PK takers.

He scored today
He's stated that this could open the floodgates. Carletto has backed him up on this, saying that Crespo always starts scoring then can't stop for a while. Remains to be seen though.
Chelsea don't seem to want him back, even with the Mutu scandal. They look like they want someone else.
They look like they want someone else.
Don't they ever?? :D
In his good early Serie A days it took him some months to score his first goal, but after that he scored consistently...hopefully he can do the same now....and in-form Sheva plus and in-form Crespo plus the always reliable Tomasson would be great  ....especially if you add SuperPippo's eventual comeback to the formula.
Crespo and Sheva is on paper probably the most leathal striking duo in the last 10 years of Serie A with over 200 goals scored between them. Let's hope we get to see them shine together this season.
PS. Given the name of the thread, isn't it time to retire it? The question has been answered ;)
well now he finally scored in the coppa he won't shut up about it.
the last 3 days the football italia has some quote or other from Crespo telling everyone "he's back!", "he deserves respect now.", "I've silenced my critics."
steady on crespo, one goal in the coppa is doing nothing :D
but it's a good sign and a striker needs confidence to score and there is no doubt crespo has that.

good point! we can change it into: "WILL CRESPO SCORE NEXT YEAR? " :D

Will Crespo ever score aain for Milan before he goes back to his good old day in Chelsea? :)))))
Or "will Crespo score in the Serie A this year?"
now he that he scored the question should be "how many will he score?" ....as many as Kaka or JDT last season??
Or "will he stay". :) Which could actually be a very interesting discussion. As Milan has no option to buy him we are pretty much stuck. If he does poorly Milan would want to return him. If he does well, Chelsea will want him back or a lot of money to sell him. Hence odds are against him staying IMO. :(
Well, he scored again today ( 2 goals in CL). So, the answer to the original title of this thread "Will Crespo score this year?" is "YES...".
Hopefully these goals on top of his Coppa Italia winner, will increase his confidence and we will be able to enjoy a Sheva/Crespo partnership with many more goals to come.

I think we easily could get him as he only would accept us if things go well and we want him. But I am not as sure that we should get him, even if his form pick up. He is 29 and he is pretty injury prone... Why splash out for a player like that?

"the better i feel, more goals i can score" crespo said in a football magazine. i think he feels much better now. 4 goals within 8 days, it's good for him to prove that he is still a good striker. crespo scored and will score more for milan. :kiss2:

splash out? now that is the point isn't it. if he come cheap, would you want him in the team? i would. chelsea don't want him and morinho hate his guts. the only way is for him to leave chelsea. the pricetag is the only thing i am concerned about, how much would he cost?

I don't think that Crespo would come to Milan next season. If he play well this season then Chelsea would want him back while on the other hand, if he play bad then Milan would not want him either :sweeteye: Btw if Milan want to buy him, I think the price will be between 9-12 millions so Milan should spend money on young players like Gilardino or Torres rather than this guy.

Chelsea wouldn't want him that much because his salary is really high (over E4 million). When Abram first bought Chelsea they weren't really a great team so they had to offer massive salaries to attract top players. Their newer players like Drogba and Kezman don't have as high salaries.
And Crespo would probably agree to a salary cut only if his stay at Milan is made permanent. Just to avoid paying such a high salary to a player their coach, Mourinho, doesn't even like, Chelsea would agree to a low transfer price (my guess is around E5 million).
Milan can wait and see how Crespo does in the next games. If he does really well then it would be a good idea to keep someone who's proven good.
Milan have hardly spent any money over the last few seasons and their revenue has been great. So they can also get Torres or Gilardino to replace Tommason or Inzaghi.

Yeah you probably right because Chelsea already has three forwards, and both Duff and Robben can play up in the front as well. They has no reason to keep Crespo on the bench but one thing is that if he can move to Milan on low price with huge wage cut then many of other teams would want his service and possibly offer better contract than Milan to get this guy.
Does Milan has any right to sign him before other teams do? eg. like we get the option to sign him next season. :swars:
9 times out of 10 milan always seem to follow the tried and tested route, so if crespo has a decent season with us i wouldnt be suprised to see him chosen over torres or gilardino
