Milan have announced that Gennaro Gattuso has extended his contract with the club until 2009.

The Italian international, known for his non-stop running and tackling, joined the club in the summer of 1999 from Salernitana.

Gattuso is somewhat of a fan favourite at the San Siro after cementing his place in the side under boss Carlo Ancelotti.

He’s considered such an important figure that he is expected to be handethe captaincy when Paolo Maldini finally retires.

Meanwhile, the Milan trio of Kaka, Dida and Cafu have been called up for Brazil’s game against Ecuador next month.

I think he is past his sell-by-date.
The team isn't working as a whole, too many players have passed their peak e.g Maldini,Gattuso,Seedorf,Serginho,Inzaghi,Crespo,Ambrosini,Costa,JDT,.
We are heading for a disaster season.The sooner Milan realizes this and starts to build for the future.We are in trouble,you only need to look at how horribly we played at the Nou Camp.
So I can't understand why we are giving such a long term contract to a player who is 'over'.I mean a 1-2yr contract maybe, but 2009 for a player with a low tranfser value,what a stupid business idea.

That's the most pessimestic statement I've heard all day.

I don't believe players like JDT, Seedorf, Gattuso, Crespo and Ambrosini are past their peak in professional football. Give them some time.

Crespo is gradually getting better and Seedorf saved our arses at the beginning of the season.
