So Euroleague is opend.... however not the way I hoped but anyway... last nite opening match was held in Kaunas. Zalgiris vs. Maccabi [champions]. As it was known and expected Zalgiris was not the team which can withstand euroleague champions... four of starting lineup players are injured [Sabonis, Bagatskis, Lavrinovicius, Serapinas] so the was small hopes to gain victory... however Maccabi also have not played they used to do last spring... three quaters we stand as an equal rival to Maccabi but in the last one everything gone away... :depress:
However everything is in our hands... season is just started so everything can be changed....
Tonite's matches in NBA: Rockets vs. Pistons, Kings vs. Mavs, Nuggets vs. Lakers.

yea, and I got a free ticket to go watch Shaq's Miami Heat sometime around mid-November, not really sure against who....to be honest I'm not really excited about it since I am not a big NBA fan, but it should be fun since I'll be going with a big group of friends....I am sure the after-game party will be great :D

Last nite's matches:
Rockets 79 -87 Pistons
Kings 98 - 107 Mavs
Nuggets 78 - 89 lakers :wth:

So it started...... :dontcare: ...hahaha

Tony Parker...
well he is not quite a real frenchman, his one of parents is dutch and another is american I guess so.... but he was born in Paris and grown up there ...
About him as player.... well, I have seen him while he was only 17 years old...he had came with his team to play match against one of our LKL teams...I guess it was Sakalai... he hasnt done me a great impession that time... so I was surprised that he became such world wide known player... he is very quick and fast... has good coordination and dribbling though his shooting is not the best....
IMO Nash, Bibby, Jasikevicius are better playmakers than he is ......

I know it's only 1 game but I optimistic about the new look Lakers.

Despite initial fears of Kobe ball-hogging after Shaq's departure, he actually played team ball yesterday. :eekani: 25 points 4 boards and 7 assists!

Chris Mihm looked awfully good in pre-season games and the season opener. Great trade with Payton going the other way to Boston! :nana: :haha:

Kobe, Mihm, Odom, Grant and Divac... The future looks bright! :rock3:

LoL I used to be the biggest Lakers hater in the world..but now that Shaq is gone-and Divac is there..a different story. :)

Damnit Kings lost!!! What a way to start...Unfortunately I didn't get to c the game..but yesterday sucked..first Milan loses n den Kings..eh. :(

BTW Goirre ru a Heat fan? - LoL it would be really funny if Heat won this year..considering the Shaq switch..never was a big fann of him..Only he scarez other players, and is twice their size, and his lay ups turn out to be dunks...doesn't really make him class. Altho ..he is good in a different way. But let's not get into his free-throws :haha:

OK, we won [I mean Zalgiris]. Thanx to Robert Pack and Tanoka Beard. They both great players. Although the problem remains -- too much players are injured. This week some good news very announced -- latvian international Ainars Bagatskis will return to arena this december [Earlier was thought that it may happen only after New Year]. However there are 4 rivals to face in euroleague before first injured players is expected to come back [Darjusas Lavrinovicius].

Over Atlantic ocean NBA floats its way...

i watched this game...my first nba game this season :proud: aww if felt so good...i'm litterly in love with this game. i've been playing for school since grade 5...and my brother played college bball along with being a coach for a while.

although the rockets lost, i was very impressed with their playing. kings were my favourite team last year, not just because of the serbian sensations, but of their amazing bench mob, and great team playing. mike bibby, doug christie and bobby jackson lead me to support the kings, and are still some of my fav players.

the rockets however have captured my attention. with the addition of williams, lou and that new slovanian kid (srry don't know his name)...rockets are going to be very successful this season. i predict the slovanian kid will win the 3-point competition this year and may even take rookie-of-the-year.

it's a shame i don't get to watch more bball due to playing my own bball and schoolwork, but i usually follow up the next day with my friends :)

at my school, we started a 3 on 3 bball tournament at lunch, 2 times a week. so far i've had 1 game, but we won! :D too bad i can't say that about my sr. girls team :( we have a playoff game monday-and if we lose, we're out!

well, before last season started I thought, my beloved team's list would increase due to compatriot playing there [Songaila]...but I was wrong... Kings is not the team I like, even some players loox to me supreme -- like Webber or Bibby... personaly I m not a serbish basketball school lover...:D so those two representatives where the reason I quit supporting Kings... nothing personal Mia, simply I can not forget that ****in '95 eve in Athens, when ... you know what happend that nite, dont you...:depress:... one year later the same **** occured again in Atalanta [olympic Games] since that two losses I became antifan of yer NT baketball team... :)

He is Bostjan Nachbar. He plays his third season in NBA. I do remember him from Bennetton, Treviso team... he looked great during entire 01/02 season in eurolegue... and thought he will find his place in NBA more soon than he did...

it's a shame i don't get to watch more bball due to playing my own bball and schoolwork, but i usually follow up the next day with my friends :)

Very good news today Clippers won, I like this team from this season, they have a lot off young players, I also like Blazers, Warriors, Pistons and from this season Bulls, Bobcats, Sonics. I like teams which no have superstars how McGrady, Kobe, Carter who make 20-30 shots per game and misses a lot off. I also dislike Spurs, Jazz, Heat.

I am glad to see nash crushed mavs by making 17 assists :tong:, he showed that he deserved place in mavs...
Garnett again showed his class by scoring 25 points and a season-high 21 rebounds.

ok so today i was suppose to have my 3 on 3 match, but the other team didn't show up, so we automatically got the win. woot woot! when the first half of the games were over, i got 2 different ppl to be on my team, who play for the sr. boys, and played against 3 other sr. players. yes yes, i was the only girl believe it or not. anywho!! with the limited amount of time that we had, the other team won 10-7...and i had 4 of the 7 points ;) whieeee. i have to admit, they wore me out, and were a little too rough at times, but i held in! i've noticed, that when i play with girls, i don't play up to my potential, whereas with guys i'm pushed harder, and therefore achieve better results.

i didn't watch the game, so i don't know the reason why they got so agrivated...but these actions were so unexeptable! i'm so dissapointed. it makes the nba look bad. u should have respect for the sport you play. i know fans can get abnoxious and aggrivating, but it's the players job (they get payed) to play basketball...not fight or protest or whatever. “The events at last night’s game were shocking, repulsive and inexcusable --- a humiliation for everyone associated with the NBA. This demonstrates why our players must not enter the stands whatever the provocation or poisonous behavior of people attending the games. Our investigation is ongoing and I expect it to be completed by tomorrow evening.

The NBA has taken the following actions, effective immediately:

Indiana players Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson and Jermaine O’Neal are suspended indefinitely, the length to be determined upon completion of the investigation.

Detroit player Ben Wallace is suspended indefinitely, the length to be determined upon completion of the investigation.

Review of rules and procedures relating to altercations and security have been undertaken so that fans can continue to attend our games unthreatened by events such as the ones that occurred last night.”

As I had asked in another thread. Who you guys got coming to the NBA next season? You folks do send some exceptional talent to the US. Is it some of the Viking genes some you Lithuanins have? It's nice to see a team like Lithuania or any other team beat the US. It kind of brings us down to earth. In a rude awakening way but down to earth nonetheless.
Well. Personally I do not like when our guys enter NBA. Just because we need them here in Europe. They build the prestige of european tournaments etc. If all best players would go to NBA our Euroleahue will be a bit boring, though it is unlikely :D

Just look at those players who never took part in NBA or didnot a great career there: Sarunas Jasikevicius, Dejan Bodiroga, Tanoka Beard, Juan Carlos Navarro, Gregor ****a, Antoine Rigaudeau, Milos Vujanic [likey next season will leave Europe :(], Marcus Brown, Anthony Parker, Mirsad Turkcan, Luis Scola [the same as Milos :(], Arvydas Macijauskas, Ed Cota, David Andersen, Tyus Edney, Ramunas Siskauskas and many many others.

I guess this year in NBA Drafts will be at least one our talent 18 years old Martynas Adriuskevicius [220 cm]. Currently is playing for Zalgiris :star:

Well it is nice to see the Eurpean players in the NBA. Their style is different yet effective and they seem to be much better sportsman than a lot of the american players. Right now there seems to be a criminal stigma attached to the American players especially with that big brawl you guys were talking about earlier with Artest and O'neil. There are a lot of those players who have some serious issues to deal with i.e. Iverson, Rashid Wallace, Sprewell, even Kobe Bryant got into some legal troubles.

rae
04-03-2005, 05:29
Yup. American guys, when the get rich, do not conceive the real situation... they do not become god or smth else. they remain the same people. But usually the do things which are inappropriate in society.

Also I do not fancy those players whose shooting is poor. Just like Shaq, Amare Stoudmire, Tim Duncan, Carlos Boozer etc. Although they can dunk over each plyer of NBA I do not think that it is a major advatage of a basketballer. For instance, if watched Olympic Games, US team was very poor on the threepointer zone, none except Iverson or sometimes Jefferson could score from there. All their attacks were very simple: get a ball and dunk it over yer rival. It was ridiculous to watch their tactics. Larry Brown could do nothing. The whole team was incapable to score from distance. That's why they were defeated in some matches. If american basketball federation would had let Larry Brown to choose player I am sure that USA would brought gold from OG. Although no snipers were brought to the team [Paul Pierce, Ray Allen etc.]. Even there was no real playmaker [Mike Bibby, Jason Kidd etc.].

Actually the fault lay on a whole bunch of NBA players. Lot of them didnt want to play for the National Team cause they have the mentality of always getting payed. So many american fans were turned off with the NBA players for not wanting to play for their country. So what we got were a bunch of so-so players good ones but not good enough. Plus we failed to realize the rest of the world is producing some really good talent now. Before Basket players from the US were the best compared to the rest of the world pretty much like how Rest of the World players for soccer are better than our american players. That has changed a lot today, at least in basketball because our american football players still suck.

well, this problem is a bit old one... just try to recollect Barcelona then Atlanta and then Sidney... in first tournament US team was called Dream Team and they deserved that name. In Atlanta the gap was reduced, though they still could be called Dream Team. In Sidney.... :rollani: :mute: ... Dreaming Team continues dreaming on.... only 2 points they overtook my country in semifinal.... that was a climax of their eerie preformance, they were were poor as a team though individually they had no rivals... it was an sibylline omen.... but they did not pay attention to that.... so that in Indianapolis argentinians, serbs and at last spaniards showed their place - 6th in the world :hopefull: :hah2: Though they still remained unchanged their way of thinking... so in Athens Puerto Rico , WE and Argentina beat them again :hopefull: ... maybe this time USA will wake from sulmber.... :rollani:

Damn..I didn't even know this thread exists.. :dontkn:

Talking about the dream teams, I think the best one was in OG 1992 in Barcelona..remeber those names - Jordan, Olajuwon, Barkley, Ewing, Drexler, Magic Johnson, Bird..this team will never be repeated..
My country ( CROATIA ) lost in the finals..
We also had some great names: Drazen Petrovic :star: , Toni Kukoc, Dino Radja, Arijan Komazec etc..

Nowdays, my favourite teams are Argentina & Lietuva..

Yeah that was an end of a Golden Age of Basketball. Now the American players care nothing but money $$$$. Not to mention if they werent in the NBA some of these guys would be having trouble with the law.

Mulaomerovic..a great player, really european class..... I do like him very much... I recall some years ago he played in Fortitudo, Bologna [Teamsystem, now Climamio] with our Karnisovas... they both and Marko Jaric were super international trio who helped fortutido to win their first scudetto... :D

I am sorry that Mula wont come today to play in ULEB cup quaterfinal second leg against Lietuvos Rytas [:yuck:].... I bet he would show those bastards what he is worth :tong:

Yesterday was held ULEB cup semifinals and now we know the finalists they are Makedonikos [Greece] and Lietuvos Rytas [Lithuania].

Makedonikos lost first leg to Hemofarm [SCG] 84 - 107, but at home the came back and won 96 - 65.

Lietuvos Rytas lost to Pamesa [Spain] on first leg 75 - 77, but they won second 75 - 65.

Good luck for Rytas in Charleroi [final].

rae
20-04-2005, 13:07
So now it is over. Lietuvos Rytas [LR] won it. 78 - 74. After supreme start in first 25 minutes, LR faced huge difficulties to score in last quater, and Makedonikos even could reach them though due to scarcity of time, they didn't. Not an interesting final at all, but a huge celebration for Vilnius and Lithuania. Our club has won a trophy again [although I am not very exited, I am Zalgiris fan, biggest rival of LR]. It is nice to hear our country's name called once more. By winning ULEB cup [just like UEFA cup in football] LR gained opportunity to compete in ULEB Euroleague next year. So Lithuania will have too clubs in major european tournament. It is not very good for Zalgiris finance, because Vilnius is a capital city and most sponsors are more eager to invest there, not in Kaunas [second biggest city, where I live now]. So that can cause Zalgiris' decrement. :(

As a big basketball fan, Ambro was at one the finals and nobody recognised who he is. Here is the article first posted by Pastor Ukweli at XT:

Ambrosini in the NBA Finals!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

BY NICHOLAS J. COTSONIKA
FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER

The NBA Finals are in town, and the stars have been out at the Palace. We've seen the Detroit glitterati -- Eminem, Anita Baker, Kid Rock, Tommy Hearns. We've seen a lot of NBA greats -- Magic Johnson, George Gervin, Clyde Drexler, David Robinson. We've seen other assorted celebrities -- Eva Longoria, Massimo Ambrosini ...

Wait. Massimo Ambrosini?

If you don't know Massimo, you're not alone. I took a quick walk around the concourse toward the end of Thursday night's game, and this was typical of the conversations I had with Pistons fans:

"Did you know Massimo Ambrosini was at the game tonight?" I asked Shaun Robertson, 35, of Grand Rapids.

"No, I didn't."

"Do you know who he is?"

"No, I don't."

"He plays for AC Milan."

"OK."

"Do you know what AC Milan is?"

"No, I don't."

Uncomfortable laugh. Blank look.

"I saw Jerome Bettis, though."

Bettis plays football. Ambrosini plays football. Only Ambrosini plays the kind we know as soccer.

"He's really good," said Simone Sandri, an Italian who works for NBA-TV. "AC Milan is like the New York Yankees of Europe, basically. It's probably the best team in Europe, with Real Madrid and Manchester United."

It isn't like Ambrosini is David Beckham, but he is to Milan fans what a Piston is to Detroit fans. Sandri compared him to Rip Hamilton. Flavio Tranquillo, who is doing NBA Finals play-by-play for Sky Italia, compared him to Tayshaun Prince.

Ambrosini would think twice before walking through a crowd in Milan.

"Oh, people would go crazy," Tranquillo said. "He scored the goal that brought AC Milan to the final of the Champions League."

But Ambrosini thought nothing of walking through the crowd in Auburn Hills. With his blond hair, white Abercrombie T-shirt, blue jeans and white athletic shoes, the 28-year-old looked like ... well, some guy.

"In Milan, people start talking, 'Oh! Picture! Sign!' " Ambrosini said.

And in Auburn Hills?

"No," he said. "Nobody."

On one hand, this shows how popular basketball is becoming overseas.

Ambrosini is a big NBA fan. It isn't a problem that games are on at inconvenient times at home, he said, because "you can record." His favorite player is Memphis guard Jason Williams, but he really enjoys watching Hamilton, too.

"I like his way of playing, his style," he said.

Ambrosini was on vacation in Miami, and when some Italian TV friends scored him tickets for Game 4, he hopped on a plane to Detroit. He arrived three hours before tip-off. He went back Friday morning.

"A lot of soccer players are very much in love with basketball, especially NBA basketball," Tranquillo said. "He told us thanks maybe 10 times" after he got to the Palace.

No wonder NBA commissioner David Stern is talking about overtaking soccer as the world's most popular sport. Tuesday at the Palace, Stern announced that four teams would hold training camps and play exhibitions in Europe in 2006 and '07. He also said the league was considering playing exhibitions in China and Latin America in '06 and an All-Star Game in Paris someday soon.

"What we are doing here," he said, "is to assure that elite athletes will increasingly bounce the ball rather than kick it. I think we're increasing the viability of the sport on a global basis."

But on the other hand, this brings a little perspective.

Think about it the other way.

If Shaquille O'Neal or Tim Duncan showed up at an Italian soccer stadium, Sandri said, they would be recognized, of course. Their size would attract attention.

But a star like Steve Nash would get little to no notice, Sandri said, even though he's the NBA's most valuable player. His everyday appearance would make him blend right in. If anything, people might think he was a midfielder or something.

In much of the world, soccer is still king.

As we get so wrapped up in this championship series -- breaking down every facet, exploring every angle, investing so much emotion, thinking it's so important -- it's healthy to remember that somewhere somebody doesn't care.

Ambrosini wasn't thinking about it that deeply, though. Asked how it felt to be virtually invisible when he's used to being a center of attention, he smiled.

"It's fantastic," he said.

At last, the Day has come! Eurobasket 2005 is here! Pity, but it does not make me so happy as usually. My team is not the one we wanted to be. There are ten key players missing and it seems that we shall participate in tournament with our second NT.

Jsikevicius, Macijauskas, Ilgauskas, Stombergas, Timinskas, Songaila, Kaukenas, Salenga, Kleiza, Zukauskas and Slanina, all can find their place in current squad without any difficulties. That's what make me so sad. :depresed:

Anyway, I still have faith in our men, and I wish them to beat turks tonight like European Champions should do.

you always play fast and man do you have 3shooters or what..

but my team Greece is gonna be strong too this Eurobasket.
i know friendlies dont count but we ve beaten Germany, Spain, Turkey(twice), Italy and Serbia (20pts)...
I believe it will be a hell of tournament

Good luck to Lieatuva tonight

Anyway, I am not so positive and optimistic about my NT perspectives in this tournament. Bu we shall fight :fero:

As I have told you we fought. And we done it!!! We won!!! Oh my God, we've done it!!! Mighty and arrogant turks are crushed. Our second NT is stronger than the first one of Turkey!!!

However i am still very axious about following match against croats. They are stronger than turks obivously, hence it would be much more difficult to play against them.

Anyway, I believe in our men. Come on, you, guys!

The big match is coming on, this evening. We can proove Europe that a team without NBA players is able to gain highest aims. Although all is up to us, and no one will help. We should do that by ourselves.

We repersent European basketball and France - afro-american basketball. We shall see who is more efficient at the moment. Nevertheless it is only a second team of Lithuania, I promise once again - we shall fight till the end.

Good luck, to our guys!

so how the heck did Serbia and Montenegro lose last night??? i cannot believe we used to be world champions. i'm so disappointed :depress:

i didn't get to see the game (don't have satellite), but i read about it today on a serbian online newspaper. apparently, they weren't playing as a team and had problems off the court. whatever the case may be, it's not a good enough reason to lose this early in the competition!!! :groan:

You are not the only one who is profoundly upset. This morinig I feel like a raped girl who has not a lee to hide... I am totaly deflowered, and I have nothing to say about last night's game. We were horrible... however afro-france deserved the victory... they were the stronger team yesterday...

Nevertheless I am very proud of our men and what they have done already in this championship. It is only a second team of our contry but the players prooved that they can compete with the strongest teams of Europe. Although they lost, I do not see a tragedy here. It was only one match, and I see prospects we can recover, because that it was only an unlucky accident, not a tendency. I still have faith in our men. Come on, guys, do it for those who believe in you. I shall always stand by my own team and never give up.

What a win against Russia
We are strong team babes!!

Now how the hell did Lietuva lost to France with that score?
But it was a present for us so....

If and i say IF we win the gold metal we will be the only country to hold the European Champions Cup both in football and basketball

GO GREECE

What a win against RussiaCongtrats to you guys. I am happy to see russians out :tong: Although I do not treat russia as a strong team... :smileani: We are strong team babes!!Yeah, but I still think that there were a few stronger teams than yours, but they havent reeached the same level as Greece did. So I have to admit that this year you are strong. :smileani: Now how the hell did Lietuva lost to France with that score? The simple answer - 4 [or more] free days are too much to retain your sporting condition perfect. It was shown by russians, Lithunians and Slovenians. Pity but referees did not let to do for Croats. But it was a present for us so....I guess it was :hopefull: Although we will never know who is better this year - Greece or Lithuania.

In case, can you recall last years' match in Athens :hopefull: :D IMO it was the best game we have ever played :stuckup:If and i say IF we win the gold metal we will be the only country to hold the European Champions Cup both in football and basketballIf you win it in basketball I should say that you deserved it more than in football ;)GO GREECEOn contrary to football I will cheer for your basketball team, because there are left only fvckin teams who did not deserved to be there. And all this is due to foolish rules of FIBA :1ang: I bet it will be changed in next European championship, because yesterday and today it looked ridiculously ludicrous. i was so happy when Greece won the european football cup.I was :pchate:  that time as for basketball...i wish it were us!!! :(*tear*I wish that too, though lookin to today's situatuon there is only Greece left who deserves my support. Spain were saved by referees [I AM VERY DISGUISTED THAT DOVYDAVICIUS IS LITHUANIAN - HE IS A DISGRACE TO OUR COUNTRY. :yuck:] Germany is too weak and leans on one player. In addition there are hardly 4 real germans in the squad :rollani: And France is not a team of Europe, it is from Africa. So I shall go for Greece. The only team which playes fairly :v103:
