Abbiati And Emre To Swap Clubs?

11/5/2004 12:21:00 PM

AC Milan reserve keeper Christian Abbiati, and not Sebastian Frey, appears to be the man Inter have chosen to replace out-of-favour Francesco Toldo, reports Italian daily ‘il Corriere dello Sport.’

Abbiati, who was AC Milan’s starting keeper in their triumphant 1998/99 Scudetto campaign, would join the Nerazzurri in exchange for Turkish midfielder Emre, who represents that midfield option currently lacking in Ancelotti’s mighty squad.

This wouldn’t be the first swap deal between the two Milan rival clubs, if it eventually goes through.

Previously they exchanged a series of players, with the most famous swap being Francesco Coco to Inter in exchange for Clarence Seedorf to Milan. We all know who got the better out of that deal.

If Abbiati ends up joining Inter, Toldo will probably pack his bags and move to one between Fiorentina, that would be a return to his origins for the veteran keeper, and Spanish giants Barcelona.

Just saw this on Goal.com and it maybe just a load of BS.

Seriously, I think in the long run this might be a good deal. Granted, I'll be absolutely gutted to see Abbiati in the colors of FC Perdenti, but if we can get Emre in return why not?

We have be looking for a player who can play on the left side of midfield (well Seedorf ain't really a leftie), and it seems likely that Serginho will be leaving at the end of the season. A swap with the evil cousins for the little Turk looks enticing indeed. Remember all those ex-Interisti whose careers have rocketed after switching colors from blue to red? :delol:

Emre will be the ideal replacement for Sergio.

Act fast Galliani! :grinser:

yeah i agree i think it would be a good deal, maybe we should start by asking for adriano first ... emre can be option no.2 hehe

...Toldo will probably pack his bags and move...

I read somewhere that Toldo will join Arsenal in January...
And his agent already negotiates with the English club... :dontkn:

2nd class?! Are you insane?! This player is simply amazing, last year he was riddiled with injuries, but the year before he was astounding as he was in the World Cup with Turkey..

A second class rating of Emre is simply illogical, he is an awesome awesome player and I would love to say Bon Voyage to Abbiati and give a big hello and pat on the back to Emre who honestly needs to leave Inter espiecially considering what he's done and how badly they've treated him there.

I agree with this.
I like Emre and I will be happy if he come to Milan.
But if Abbiati goes to Inter then we will have to buy new goalkeeper, because Fiori is old.

emre is a good player and milan will improve play in the midfield and of course
creating chances for a lot of goal.......

i always liked emre. he's a skilled version of gattusso without the bite that gattuso has. i always wanted him to come to milan but to see abbiati in inter colours would be sad indeed. then again, abbiati is useless to us right now.

but why do this trade when dhorasso is still waiting?

I wish is all I can say, Abbiati for Emre I would take anyday of the week. Let's not forget that Serginho will not last much longer and Milan are for whatever reasons obviously not happy with D'horasoo.

Ha! This would be excellent, out of the players Inter has, Emre has been my "hope we get him" in a messed up player exchange. Of course, Adriano, Stankovic, etc. are all great but there's not been a chance Inter would give them up (yet:D). Looking through their rooster, it just had to be young Emre- a great player contributing in both directions.
So yeah, go ahead with the deal. Abbiati wanted out so I don't mind. It's a shame his developement stopped on our bench.

yeah i read the statement from ancelotti saying abiati won't be leaving but frankly if this comes up we should do it. Abiati has been great in the past but the ease at which Dida unsurpped him is worrying, he seems a tad whiney and most people would hope when Dida finishes (which won't be for 3-5 season after this) that we would go for someone better anyway. Emre is one of those players that could be total world class, on a good day I remember maradona watching him.

From Channel4:

Abbiati untouchable say Milan Thursday 18 November, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan have issued a statement insisting that Christian Abbiati won’t leave the club in January.

The goalkeeper has been heavily linked with an exit given that he has spent the last two years as reserve to Dida.

But the Italian champions have today claimed that the international will remain with them at the San Siro.

"Reports are suggesting that Christian Abbiati will be sold but that is not the reality of the situation," the outfit stated.

"Abbiati is not available for transfer. There has never been any contact or negotiations with any other clubs regarding a move."

Abbiati has been associated with a host of clubs over the last year but Milan have managed to keep hold of him.

Sampdoria, Arsenal and Palermo have all shown an interest in the highly-rated shot-stopper in the past.

While whispers over recent weeks claimed that Abbiati could move to city rivals Inter, in a swap deal with Turkish midfielder Emre.

emre will be a good addition to our squad. but i don't want to see abbiati leave, not that fiori is old, he is just not reliable, in my opinion. i support him only because he is one of us. ;)

Best moment for abbiati:

Milan - Inter CL semi final. performed some AMAZING saves to lead us into the Final. With no attitude problems whatsoever.

He is one of us. As much as i want Emre - I cannot turn my back on our boy Abbiati. He helped us MANY MANY times. I am sad that his career is kinda halted but please don't go to Inter! PLEASE! I F...ING HATE INTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, we will have to buy another goalkeeper? Abbiati is a good goalkeeper, but Ancelotti prefer to place Dida. I like Emre, but I don't want to swap him for abbi.
In the other hand, I realize Abbiati need more chance in the line up which Milan
can't guarantee. It's a difficult option, I say let Inter have Frey back .

I didn't think he was that great on that night, but Martin said he was a big reason for our scudetto success in 99, although others like Boban deserve just as much credit

y get Emre when we have Dhorasoo?..Our midfield like most people said is already of world-class standard...y add another Emre whom like most Turks who came to Milan(Umit Davala, Terim :grinser: ) flopped?...i maybe over-generalising but we seriously should give Dhorasoo a shot more often...he is an exciting talent...moreover..to exchange for Abbiati??..tt would cause a loophole in our keepr's stand..what if Dida gets injured/suspended?..Fiori is up to the task? :dontkn: ...not that i dun trust Fiori's ability but...not as much as i have for Abbiati..we shouldnt overload our midfields and inturn create a worry for our defence which is doing brilliantly as far as i am concerned. We already have depth in our goal and midfield....so please dun compromise any of those~ Especially not to improve the standard of our evil cousins!~

WE HATE INTER!!!~

did you forget the last minute diving save he made that would have eliminated milan in the inter vs milan CL semi final game? If he had not been attentive, you could have kissed your celebrations of the CL final goodbye. I don't think you were paying attention to abbiati in that game. He was amazing.

NOBODY said abbiati is the only one who deserves credit for the scudetto.

I sounded quite critical of Martin's post in my last post, but I was simply trying to point out that others deserve credit for that scudetto.

As for Abbiati, against Inter he made a couple of saves that were as important as Sheva's goal, but I clearly remember him not filling me with confidence, with the way he would never catch a cross (and he could have done) and simply punch or even palm them away, allowing Inter to keep the pressure up at the end. Simply, I think he had a decent game where he made very important saves, but I don't think he was spectacular in the game.

i say lets get frey and put him side by side with abbiati on the bench :grinser:
They could do well with each other's company and abbiati might teach him some new skills which he may benefit from :delol: ...in the meantime..fiori can move on.. :gonova:

if abiatti hadnt come in on 1999 for rossi then we wudnt have won the scudetto, obviously he wasnt the only reason we won, boban weah bierhoff ganz maldini ect. but he stepped up big for us n since he hasnt been a starter, he has lost alot of confidence. there have also been rumors linkin us to a goalkeeper from spanish league, if we get him then we shud consider swappin abiatti for emre

Whoever said that because two Turks "flopped" at Milan, [who did well at Milan during the Terim period?] Umit Davala was a class player, and I don't think he is a Serie A type player..

Plus, Emre has done amazing things at Inter, and if we generalize like that, then should we say Brazilians shouldn't come to Milan anymore? I mean Roque Junior was a flop.. [I know Cafu is on the team and Dida, and Serginho, and Kaka] but I think I would like to rubbish any talk about generalizations about a player due to their country of origin, espiecially when it is a country like Turkey who have shown that they are a top footballing country, and don't say because they didn't make Euro04 they are trash because Holland didn't make WC2002..

Turkish midfields are some of the best in the world and I think unlike Dhorsoo, Emre would get valuable playing time, espiecially with the prospect of Ambro moving on to another club soon if he doesn't get his way..

I say yes to Emre, he is pure class.

ur right its a bad generalization... look at barca, there has never been a frenchman who did well there and it remained a curse until they signed giuly this season... hes amazing i love him

but dhorasso ull see, hell get more playing time, and in every game he has played he has done great.

by the way, umit was not class
