I just wanted to point out that Milan has more nominations than any other team. :)
I think there are at least 40 names too many on that list.Angelos Haristeas is by no definition the best player in Europe

2003 European Player of the Year Pavel Nedved claims Andriy Shevchenko deserves to take the title.

“It has rarely happened in the history of the Balon d’Or,” said the Czech international, “but it’s not out of the question that two East Europeans will win in successive seasons.”

The Juventus midfielder was crowned the best player on the continent last year and hopes the trophy remains in Italy.

“Shevchenko would deserve it, as I’ve seen him close at hand over the last few years. It’s more difficult to score goals in Serie A than anywhere else, but that doesn’t stop Andriy getting on target regularly.”

The Ukrainian has been named as one of the favourites to win the journalists’ vote in December, along with Adriano, Deco and Ronaldinho. His fine current form for Milan in the League – netting seven goals in nine games – is also helping his cause.

“Every time that Milan seem to be in some difficulty,” added Nedved, “he comes along to get them out of trouble. His goals are always decisive.”

Scoring in each leg of the Champions’ League Group clash with Barcelona also put his name in the headlines, so with this endorsement from the reigning European Player of the Year, Shevchenko could finally get his award.

That's familiar in football.

One player hail another player even his current competitor for a cup campaign or individual award.

I think last year, Nedved did it.

He said that Maldini deserved to get European Football of the year.

As you know, award goes to nedved.

That's an apreciation of a player to another.

In this case, nedved :respect: sheva so much this year, just like

nedved :respect: maldini's defending ability in 2003

The bookie? I dunno what you're talking about, but Henry, and especially Totti will NOT win that award, there is no way, Dinho and Sheva alone have a MUCH better chance.

If I misinterpreted you sorry.

Anyways, Sheva is well on his way to the title, he just needs to right the Ukraine Lokomotiv, he really stands out on the national team

I have a sneaking feeling the winner will be out of Sheva, Ronaldinho and Deco. Totti blew it with that spit. Most of the rest are just filler. Henry might come into contention but his best chance was last year.

the ones that really should be fighting for it are: shevchenko, ronaldinho, vicente and deco really

ur all forgetting how important and consistent vicente has been... both for spain and valencia, only he and puyol deserved good remarks during the euros and for valencia he was their main man, leading them to the uefa cup and la liga title, look at them without him... theyre helpless!

He isn't a big name though. And it's only big names with huge merchandising deals who win these things. Valencia won the UEFA cup last season, and I watched the whole of the final, yet all I remember is the fat guy streaking just after half time. :depress:

Well the final three are Ronaldinho, Shevchenko and Henry, so we'll have to see how the vote goes.
