Gio, you simply MUST get The Godfather Trilogy, more so now that Don Corleone (Marlon Brando) is not longer around (RIP Marlon). It's a must have for all fans of mafia/gangster flicks. Il Padrino trilogy is my all time favourite, and till now I still don't get sick of watching.

In short, it's an offer you can't refuse. :grinser:

For me I have The Godfather Trilogy, Star Wars Trilogy and most of Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese's films. I was thinking of getting LOTR but in the end decided on waiting for the release of a Trilogy box set. :grinser:

yeah, Carlito's Way is one of my favourites there too, even though i know the ending i still hope he'll make it to the train  :D

Heat is good too, i think thats the only film where De Niro and Pacino have met??

I keep planning to get the Star Wars and LotR films but never get round to it as they are on tv all the time anyway :D

guys the LOTR dvds are the best dvds you can find on the market.
even a supposed next dvd box will be less rich of extras, because, summed up, the extended versions have 12 dvds (4 per installment)..an eventual box set hardly will have 12 dvds..probably the yummy thing will be an eventual new editing with all the movies linked eachother as a whole one.it is said that in that version there'll be some perfectionised details such as the face of gollum in the fellowship (in the first movie they hadn't already developed his look, so he looked neutral but different from the final version)

anyway i suggest the extended, even though the final box roughly must be out in february so if you've managed to wait so far, can make it till that point.

Just got my DVD-players and decided to start off my collection by buying all James Bond movies. There are 3 collectors sets that are fairly reasonably prices.

Am waiting for the last Star Wars movie before getting all 6 in that series. Next up is a bunch of Disney movies to keep my daughter happy.

yeah, thats what i meant :D in Heat they actually sit down and have a little talk to each other. I cant remember if they actually share the screen though, or whether it just goes back and forth between them?

someone suggested me to read the book first, but today i watched the first half of the first movie, but i felt like i was missing the real pathos of the movie, which in facts , reading the book, is a bit spoiled.

Now i believe i will watch the movies first, otherwise i risk to spoil the fun to watch such great movies, then i will read the books, already knowing about the story, but the richness of details of the book will add extra fun on the storyline

I've never been a massive reader of fiction so i dont really have that choice to make :D I think the only books i read before seeing the film was LOTR. I read all of Tolkiens works when i was 14 but then gradually forgot about them, by the time i saw the film i didnt remember much of the story so it didnt spoil the film for me in anyway.

That someone was me Gio, on XT ;)

As said on XT, I suggested reading the book first cause the movie removed chunks from the novel, and by reading the book first you'll get yourself familarize with the plot.

There are scenes in the movie which a viewer who has not read the book will find somewhat confusing, like the scene where Sonny was helpless after the Don has been shot. He said to Tom Hagen "If I have a wartime consigliere, a Sicilian, I wouldn't be in this s#!t. Pop had Genco, and look who I got" A viewer who has not read the book would be clueless about WTF is Genco.

There is also no explanation in the movie about the return of Michael to America from Sicily. In one scene he's still in Sicily watching Apollonia getting bombed in the car, in the next he's back looking for Kay in America.

The removal of Tom Hagen from consigliere to legal adviser by Michael was also not elaborated in the movie. When Hagen asked Michael why was he out of the new business, Michael curtly replied "You're out Tom". If you've read the book you'll know why Michael wanted no involvement from Tom in the new family business.

Having said all those, there are still many captivating movie scenes. Those are magical screen moments suited only for movies and not books. The one I like most was the simultaneous scenes of the baptism and murder of the various New York gang leaders. :star:

i pretty much agree with you ilgenio, btw i have read 100 pages, arriving at the sollozzo threat, and watching the movie i had the feeling my fun was already spoiled

the same can be said watching the movie first, but the richness of details of the book and the amount of new infos will help

currently i'm at the half of the second movie, i find the plot a bit complicated, but this is not a movie i will watch one time, it must be watched several tiems to appreciate every detail

It's supposedly Karo blood (made from Karo syrup with powdered red food coloring) according to **** Smith, the make-up artist for The Godfather. Part I was filmed on a shoestring budget (about US$6 million - very cheap in those days), so I suppose they used orange juice due to tight budget constraints. :D
