Sheva has won the Golden Ball

according to La Gazzetta the most reliable paper in Italy he has won it, we wait just the official news
I was shocked this morning because they didn't put it as probable or didn't say: he's leading. No, they stated SHEVCHENKO HAS WON IT. HE'S THE 6TH MILAN PLAYER TO WIN THE GOLDEN BALL

The case is this: obviously some of you can say it's not reliable, but i tell ya that La Gazzetta dello Sport is one of the most reliable sport papers in Europe, so if they wrote that they must know or have good informers. They said his advantadge is too big to be filled by his followers Deco and Ronaldinho. I know the journalists and they are reliable, Gazzetta is known to be pretty serious, hardly involved by market speculations.

What do you think? I believe last year we knew Nedved was the winner far before the official news. Do you believe this one?

His footballing achievments have absolutely NOTHING to do with what he said or didn't say politically. I won't get into some of the political beliefs of past football stars cause then we must take back our congrats from some of them too?

About the news itself, if true, its very deserving and a great news for him and the team.

I couldn`t care less about his political beliefs.....he is one of those Milan will always be proud of.....FORZA SHEVA!!!!

And yes to answer Gio`s original question,i`ve heard the same news in Serbia, quoted from La Gazzeta Dello Sport and they have always been represented as highly reliable....so yes..in my opinion he has won it and
damn right he deserved to win it

It matters me much. I was gronw in very exraordinary circumstances. I know the life and situation in Ukraina cuz the same was in my country. So such anouncements can not be unheard by me. I do not try to condemn him cuz I do not know it was true or not, I have no clue, but such speculations make my heart bleed - beloved player form my TEAM Milan proclaims the things I abominate most in my life. What should I do?! I am totaly prostrated....:depress:

First, I have never believed in this accolade since the season they ignored Paolo Maldini's achievements. I do not care what they say about defenders find it harder to win this award.

Second, whether Shevchenko wins this "Golden Ball" is of little significance to me. If he does, he deserves it and we all know it. If he doesn't, we still know that he's still a great player. And it's a big bonus to know that a great player like him plays for a great team like Milan.

Forza Milan!

Deco: I Deserve The Balon D'Or
11/28/2004 8:12:00 PM
Deco has declared that he deserves to win the Balon D’Or after scoring the goal that gave Barcelona victory over Getafe.
The Portuguese midfielder is on the list of nominations for the award given by France Fotball and has decided that he is should be the winner.

"The great players are always there in the decisive moments, that’s when they shine, and I was always there at the difficult times for Porto and playing well," he explained.

"Without doubt, because of that I think that I deserve the Balon D’Or."

Barça won 2-1 in the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez to move nine points clear at the top of the table on Saturday night.
------------------------------------------------------------------
What a f*cking joke - all sorts of players and coaches, including Murinho, have said that Sheva is the worthy Golden Ball Winner and since nobody has backed him up, the "mighty" Deco has decided to do it himself.

Although I don't like listening to Pele's comments normally, I'm glad he noted a good number of Milan players.

As for Adriano's response, I think its fair what he said, as his form has been far too good to say he isn't likely to become great and saying Sheva deserves it VERY true ;)

As for Deco, if he said that then he's a fool. Imo, I don't think he deserves to be amongst the very top candidates, he isn't as good imo.

Deco has not been that great since he plays along Ronnie at Barca. IMHO, Ronni always outshines Deco. On any days, i would pick Ronnie over Deco to win that award. Too bad, Sheva is the best outta the lot.

The word great is used far too often and Deco certainly aint great as everyone seems to agree :hmmm: The only other player who deserves it is Ronaldhinio. Personally, I cant decide who desreves it more. If it dosnt go to either Sheva or Ron the prize is a joke :nunu:

Shev up for FIFA award Monday 29 November, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan ace Andriy Shevchenko is on the three-man shortlist for the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

The Ukrainian striker has enjoyed a stunning 2004 and is now in contention with Ronaldino of Barcelona and Arsenal’s Thierry Henry for the honour.

Shevchenko has found the net with consistency for both club and country, ending the last campaign as the Serie A top scorer.

The winner will be announced on December 20 at FIFA’s World Player Gala at Zurich's Opera house.

In the past, national bosses voted for the winner but the sport’s world governing body have changed the system this year.

Male and female captains of every national team will be eligible to vote along with their tacticians, plus FIPRO – the global body for professional players.

Former Juve star Zinedine Zidane won the honour last year but this is the first time since 1999 that no Real Madrid players are included in the final three-man list.

Deco is up here for a simple reason, FC Porto and Portugal. Well, not JUST that, he's a great player, but it was with Porto where he performed so well that he is making this fuss. Even on the portugal National team he didn't play GREAT, but he still reached Semi-finals with them. He's got a great vision and great passes. If he wins the award, it is more thanks to his acheivements rather than his talents

Platini snubs Golden Shev
30.11 || webmaster || $source

Source: Football Italia

Juventus great Michel Platini claims that Andriy Shevchenko doesn’t deserve to win the Golden Ball.

The Milan ace is being widely tipped to be named as the European Footballer of the Year but Platini disagrees.

The Frenchman maintains that Deco’s achievements with Porto and Portugal in 2004 merit recognition.

"I would give it to the Barcelona player," stated the three times winner. "Especially when you consider what he has won.

"Winning trophies is the only valid criteria to really judge who deserves to net the award."

Deco won the Portuguese title and the European Cup before his big money move to Spain.

Meanwhile, Platini also commented on the fortunes of his former club Juventus. "They got their transfer campaign right," he stated.

"They also have a great Coach in Fabio Capello so they are favourites to win Lo Scudetto. The Milan clubs are playing well but Juve are too good."

Platini was then asked whether he could one-day return to Juventus to work as a club official.

"I don’t think it is possible to have two relationships with the same lover," he replied.

The legendary No 10 was also quizzed on comparisons between himself and Milan ace Kaka.

"We are two different players," he explained. "I was more of a playmaker, whereas Kaka can play at speed. I don’t think we are similar."

if this is true that's a direct confirmation (if anybody needed it) that Cosa Nostra  knows everything, everywhere and anytime way before everyone in europe  maybe even before france football :haha:

platini who?
Milan’s Andriy Shevchenko will be named as the European Footballer of the Year, according to whispers in Italy.

Although no official announcement will be made until December 13, a number of media reports insist that the player will be handed the Golden Ball.

It has been alleged that Milan have already been informed of the result by ‘France Football’, the magazine who organise the award.

Shev is expected to be handed the trophy at the ‘Canal Plus’ studios in 10 days time after his victory is confirmed.

Other sources have even suggested that the Ukrainian has already taken part in the photo shoot and completed an interview for the French magazine.

It is also understood that Milan Vice-president Adriano Galliani met with colleagues on Thursday to organise a celebration for the striker.

Shevchenko will only be able to parade the Golden Ball in front of the San Siro faithful on January 6 when Lecce arrive.

That is because Milan are away on December 18 when they play Juventus, who ironically have the current holder of the accolade in the form of Pavel Nedved.

If the 28-year-old is confirmed as the winner, it will be the seventh time that a Milan star has been named as Europe’s best player.

His predecessors were: Gianni Rivera (1969), Ruud Gullit (1987), Marco Van Basten (1988/89/92) and George Weah (1995).

Ronaldinho has won the world player of the year, Henry came second and Shevchenko came third. It was on the news this morning and on the front of the World Soccer magazine.

I'm not sure if this is the same World Player of the Year award, but i think it is.

Laudrup
10-12-2004, 06:41
Ronaldinho has won the World Soccer Magazine's world player of the year, not to be mistaken for France Football's Ballon d'Or or Fifa's world player of the year. It's the same award Paolo Maldini won in 94 and it's the readers of the magazine who've decided. Ronaldinho got 28,6 percent of the votes and Sheva 22,2.

World Soccer Magazine's winner is a good indication of how the FIFA award will pan out. Since 1996 I think, who ever has been selected on World Soccer Magazine's poll has gone on to win the real thing.

I think World Soccer Magzine award is not entirely based on the achievements, but is an opinion poll of the fans. It just means that Ronaldinho has more fans than sheva or henry.

The award is not the same as Fifa World Player title which will be officially announced on Dec 20. A lot of sites have announced Sheva as the unofficial winner.

Nope. It is voted by the fans. I should know since I voted ;) 'World Soccer' usually gets it right(or very close) because most subscribers are fairly intelligient. Last year Nedved won the award by a landslide even though FIFA gave it to Zidane. It's hard to argue against Ronaldinho this year since he has been brillient so I won't criticise their choice. I don't think it matters to Sheva that he didn't win this award since the only award I've heard him say he cherishes is the Balon d'Or. And he will win in it in the next couple of days :)

Barcelona magician Ronaldinho complimented Andriy Shevchenko for winning the 2004 Ballon D’Or award as Europe’s best player.
“He deserves this award for all the great work he has done,” said the Brazilian, who came in third in the running.

Ronaldinho’s teammate Deco came in second despite having won the Champions League and Portuguese league titles with Porto last season.

However Ronaldinho doesn’t think Deco should be disappointed for not having clinched the prestigious accolade.

“Players like Deco, that placed in the top positions of the list, should feel privileged to be ranked so highly,” he said.

Shevchenko takes "Ballon d'Or"

AC Milan and Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko has been named European Footballer of the Year for 2004.

Prolific form
The 28-year-old finished as top scorer in Serie A in the 2003/04 season with 24 goals as Milan won the title in convincing fashion. Shevchenko has showed no sign of slowing down in the present campaign, with three goals in five UEFA Champions League matches and eleven more strikes in the Italian top flight.

Nedved successor
Shevchenko succeeds Juventus FC midfielder Pavel Nedved as the winner of the Ballon d'Or, which has been organised by France Football since 1956, beating the likes of FC Barcelona forward Ronaldinho and Arsenal FC striker Thierry Henry who are in the running with the Ukrainian for next week's FIFA World Player of the Year award.

Deco in second place
Shevchenko collected 175 votes in the France Football poll, with Barcelona's Portuguese international Deco in second place with 139 votes. His Camp Nou team-mate Ronaldinho was third with 133 votes and French international Henry fourth with 80 votes.

'Special day'
"I'm very happy to have received this award," Shevchenko said. "I'd like to thank all those who helped me, especially my fellow Ukrainians. I'm Ukrainian and proud of it. I dedicate this award to my people."

Third Ukrainian winner
Shevchenko is the third Ukrainian to win the award, following Oleh Blokhin and Ihor Belanov, who took the title in 1975 and 1986 respectively while representing the Soviet Union. "I grew up in Ukraine and saw Belanov and Blokhin win the Golden Ball," he said. "They were my first idols." His success is the seventh time a Milan player has won the coveted award, with only Juventus, on eight, boasting more titles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shev lifts Golden Ball Monday 13 December, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan star Andriy Shevchenko has been crowned as the 2004 European Footballer of the Year.

The Ukrainian was being heavily tipped to win the Golden Ball and his victory has been confirmed this evening.

The striker finished 36 points clear of Portuguese playmaker Deco and 42 ahead of the latter’s Barcelona teammate Ronaldinho.

"This is a very special day for me," said the 28-year-old. "I’m happy to have won this award and I think I deserve it too.

"I would like to dedicate this victory to the people of the Ukraine who are having their difficulties right now."

Shevchenko, who succeeds Pavel Nedved of Juventus, becomes the fifth Rossoneri star to win the accolade.

Gianni Rivera was the first when the midfielder triumphed in 1969. Ruud Gullit was next in 1987, while Marco Van Basten won in 1988, 1989 and 1992. George Weah was the last in 1995.

The highest placed Italian in this year’s list, voted for by 52 European journalists, was Gigi Buffon who came in 17th.

The only other Italian to have registered a vote was Paolo Maldini. The legendary captain of Milan was 28th.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has won the ‘Golden Boy’ prize for the best Under-21 player in Europe.

The Man Utd talent received the honour from the Italian Tuttosport newspaper, finishing ahead of teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres of Atletico Madrid, Chelsea’s Arjen Robben and Obafemi Martins of Inter.

Golden Ball votes:
1) Shevchenko (Milan) 175 pts.
2) Deco 139 pts.
3) Ronaldinho 133 pts.
4) Henry 80 pts.
5) Zagorakis (Bologna) 44 pts.
6) Adriano (Inter) 27 pts.
7) Nedved (Juventus) 23 pts.
8) Rooney 22 pts.
9) Ricardo Carvalho, Van Nistelrooy 18 pts.
11) Charisteas 15 pts.
12) Baros, Cristiano Ronaldo 11 pts.
14) Ibrahimovic (Juventus) 8 pts.
15) Eto'o, Kakà (Milan) 7 pts.
17) Dellas (Roma), Buffon (Juventus), Drogba, Lampard, Morientes 5 pts.
22) Figo 4 pts.
23) Zidane 3 pts.
24) Baraja, Giuly, Maniche, Nikopolidis 2 pts.
28) Maldini (Milan), Vicente 1 pt.

Realise what ronaldinho is trying to say to Deco in a nice way(like he always is)... "You're lucky enough to have even gotten on the list, much less 2nd, so stfu since you will always play second fiddle to me, much less touch Shevchenko"

Romario won the FIFA award in 1994, not Stoichkov.

Now that Sheva has won Ballon d'Or, I think Ronaldinho will just nick enough votes to win the FIFA Player of the Year. Let's hope I'm wrong. ;)
My bad, I stand corrected. Romario did win it in 94'

Notice that in the last 10 years or more, the FIFA award has NEVER gone to a player outside of Italy and Spain.

So, at-least Henry's chances of winning it look bleak ;)

Shevchenko edges teammate Ronaldinho for Golden Ball award

PARIS (AP) -- AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko won the Golden Ball award as Europe's best soccer player Monday, edging club teammate Ronaldinho and Barcelona midfielder Deco.

"I would like to thank all the people who have helped me win it and I would like to dedicate the Golden Ball to the people of Ukraine," Shevchenko told Canal Plus television. "I am Ukrainian and proud to be. It is hard to talk about the situation in Ukraine, but the people deserve a democracy."

The winner was chosen in France Football magazine's annual poll of journalists.

Shevchenko, 28, has scored 11 goals in 15 Italian league games this season for second-place Milan. He scored 24 goals last season.

Shevchenko received 175 points, Portugal's Deco got 139, and Brazil's Ronaldinho 133. France's Thierry Henry was fourth, followed by Greece's Theodoros Zagorakis.

Last year, Shevchenko finished fourth behind Pavel Nedved. He's the third Ukrainian to win the award, after Oleg Blokhin in 1975 and Igor Belanov in 1986, and the seventh Milan player.

Shevchenko's brilliance is manifold. He is quick, alert and elusive inside the penalty box, strong in the air and regularly scores spectacular goals from outside the area and any angle.

He has helped unbeaten Ukraine lead its 2006 World Cup qualifying group with 11 points from five matches and scored twice in a 3-0 win away to Turkey in November. He totals 24 goals in 56 internationals.

Since joining the Italian giant in 1999 he has scored 136 goals overall -- 102 in 163 serie A games and 20 in 49 European matches.

He lives in a huge villa along the shores of Lake Como along with American wife Kirsten and also models for Giorgio Armani.

last night, i saw a bit of the Golden ball presentation to sheva on SBS ( the only TV channel in Australia that sheds some light into soccer) and even on channel 10, who normally doesnt give a stuff about soccer. Sheva was clearly emotional. And man ...he looks so elegant. I am really really happy for him..hope he kicks Juve's asses

CONGRATS Sheva!!!!!! He is my fav player, and even though I knew from before that he would win, I am still estatic that what I was told b4 has come to pass.

He definately deserves the award, and maybe even the FIFA award as well, though Deco has a better shot at it IMO.

FORZA Sheva!!!!!

How can Deco win the fifa award when the 3 players in it are ronaldinho, henry and sheva? you can't win if you aren't in it. :ilol:

Hey, everyone makes mistakes!! :v46: :D :pom: But indeed, IMO Deco is more deserving of that award than Ronnie and Henry....not more deserving than Sheva...unless Sheva isnt on the short list.... :1d31:

the award for FIFA world player of the year is tonight, its voted by national managers and team captains from what i've heard, so good luck sheva, but as he was won the golden ball something tells me either ron or henry will win it, but i'm praying for andriy!

Nata
20-12-2004, 12:02
Yeah I agree with Lombardia, most likely Sheva wont get it, but we`re never 100% sure.

Blatter sayd that he wants Henry to win it..and usualy what Blatter wants, Blatter gets.

Good luck to all 3 players. :D

Shame that Sheva had so many less votes than the others

Nata
20-12-2004, 17:55
Dev, it was probably because of
A) The national team..Ronaldinho plays on Brasil, Henry France..a bit different from Ukraine.
b) Sheva already won Golden Ball.

But it`s all good..this year was kind of predictable, I had the feeling Sheva would get Golden Ball, and Ronaldinho FIFA.(and Henry nothing :D)

Congrats to both players!Well deserved awards. :)
