I have wathched Milan's match since early in 90's.
And I have Milan players all that seasons in 1 team as follows :
Dida
Contra Nesta Baresi Maldini
Gullit Kaka Rijkaard Boban
Van Basten Weah
ACMILAN1983

In that team I don't think i'd have Contra and Kaka.
I'd definately pick Tasotti over Contra and as for Kaka, I think its too early to say he can be in a team like this when players like Savicevic and Demi are missing.
I'd also consinder Sheva instead of Weah
contra!! he had a few good games for us thats all. he could barely get on the team and was not at milan long. he is at wba now. that says it all.
my team off the top of my head
Dida
Cafu Nesta Baresi Maldini
Gullit Gattuso Rijkaard Savicevic
MVB Sheva

donadoni, now there was a player and a half. also i agree, kaka shouldn't be anywhere near that line up yet! he is a good player, but not yet a great player. in time he may well prove to be one of the all time greats for milan but not quite yet.
are we just staying in teh 90's? otherwise id have cudicini in goal...

weah shevchenko van basten
what a ridiculous front line i would have :sun:
There were a few threads previously on the best ever Mlian XI, though I don't think I've posted a best Milan XI comprising of players during Berlu's era.
My team (Similar to almilan, though I dropped Gattuso for Ancelotti. As much as I like Rino, he's no Terminator :delol: )
----------------------Dida-----------------------
---Cafu-----Nesta------Baresi-------P.Maldini----

Subs:
G. Galli
Tassotti
Costacurta
Gattuso
Donadoni
Boban
Weah
If Kaka continues playing like that for the next 5 years, he'll take Boban's place on the bench.

Ba should be in the line up :guw:
There is a thread for the worst line-up ever. I believe Ba was in most peoples worst 11. Feel free to contribute to that thread :)

Well it is very difficult to select the best from these last 100 years.
I make my line up from 1993, i.e. the first year since i watch every Milan's match.
Dida
Cafu Nesta Baresi P.Maldini
Gullit Rijkaard Ancelotti Donadoni
VAN BASTEN Shevchenko
On the bench:
Rossi
Tassotti
Costacurta
Albertini
Boban
Savicevic
Weah
I am very sorry of not putting Massaro, Desailly, Kaka, Colombo, Evani, Papin, Inzaghi, Pirlo, Leonardo ecc.
We can also include 1950's and 1960's heros like Liedholm, Schiaffino, Gren, Nordhal, RIVERA, C.Maldini, Prati, Hamrin ecc
Milan's best XI post 1988. Based on what these players achieved as well as their quality.
Formation is 4-4-2, as that was by far our most successful.
Rossi
Tassotti-Nesta-Baresi-Maldini
Donadoni-Albertini-Rijkaard-Gullit
Shevchenko-Van Basten
Explanation.
Rossi was goalkeeper during our most successful period, after taking over from Giovanni Galli. He was never brilliant in the outrageous way that the likes of Buffon are, but he was by and large a very safe pair of hands. He didn't make as many cataclysmic mistakes as a lot of other keepers we possessed over the years (Taibi, Lehmann etc) but was a safe pair of hands right up until his last couple of seasons. The assault on Bucchi in January 1999 wrecked his career, as it gave the younger Abbiati a chance which he was able to take and afterwards Sebastiano never was a regular. But he was a steadfast servant.
Tassotti gets the right back slot because he was unstintingly effective for goodness knows how many years, something exemplified by the fact that we only noticed how important he was once he'd gone. I admit Cafu may be more exuberant and I do like attacking full backs, but Tassotti was a far more important player over the years. Cafu has only been at Milan for a year, Mauro was there for nearly 20 as a player. As for Contra, well I thought he was a good player while he was at Milanello but he's now regressed to the point where he struggles to start at West Brom. And anybody who goes on that steep a slide can't be all he's made out to be.
I picked Nesta ahead of Costacurta because I always believed him to be a far superior player than Billy, whom I never saw as being that great. Once Baresi went Billy looked pretty ordinary, and his errors were magnified. Nesta on the other hand is the outstanding Italian central defender of his generation, as Baresi was before. Both Franco's and Paulo's positions need no explanation, as to suggest otherwise would be to merely invite ridicule.
Midfield was the hardest. I picked Donadoni because of his tireless work down the flanks, his ability to make telling contributions week in week out. To tell the truth, we haven't had too many other genuine orthodox right wingers over the last few years. Albertini and Rijkaard would provide a good central defensive combination, although I was never a massive admirer of Albertini. I would have liked to have found a role for Boban or Savicevic, but as I had already decided to pick a 4-4-2 formation I thought the best combination would be Demetrio and Rijkaard. I selected Gullit on the left because I had to find a way of getting him into the side, and his position would most likely have involved a high level of cutting inside. He probably would have huffed about being selected there anyway, but as long as he isn't the coach, then things should be fine. I felt Kaka simply hadn't done enough to justify selection having only been at Milan a year and a half, but in a while I might change my mind.
In attack, it had to be Sheva and van Basten. For those who suggested Weah, he wasn't anywhere near the same class as either of them. His scoring record in Serie A wasn't all that impressive, bar the occasional miracle goal, and there seems to be some residual hype over his standing. Sheva and MVB would be a dream in attack. My only regret is I never saw it happen.
The coach would be Capello, the finest of his generation and the winner of four Scudettos and a Champions League with Milan, the Primera Liga with Real Madrid, the Scudetto with Roma and in all likelihood a sixth Scudetto this season with Juventus.
Galacticos? Bring them on.
Lombardia's jure team has a great mix of youth and veterans ;)
Leonardo should be featured somewhere, scored many important goals in 98/99..

contra? hahahahaha.
Yeah. You know why?
When Milan could not perform in top level (even rui in his 1st season in milan), he became one of few player (other maybe serginho or coco) that showed terrific performance. Look his performance in CL (00/01), also his goal.
Honestly Cafu, Panucci or Tassotti are world class right back.
But as you know, they play in the times that Milan's performance (as a team) was great.
This team, more become like and dislike player.
I mean that's my favourite player in every position.

All I know, when Rossi became Milan 1 st keeper earliest in 90's, that position was the weakness of Milan's.
Remember, when Milan had clean sheet or less goal in that time, the applause went to Maldini, billy, baresi & tassotti/panussi (back 4) or rijkaard/desailly and ancelotti/demeterio (2 central midfielder).
That time 1st national keeper went to walter zenga, then pagliuca then peruzzi. Where's rossi ?
Milan became the dream team without the dream goal keeper !!
You chose rossi ain't for own ability but for the champ collections as a team.
But look dida, today.
All media said he's one of best keepers right now ( beside buffon or casillas)

Yeah, I like the way you chose Nesta for Billy.
That's what I mean.
Cause if you chose the player from their trophies, It has to be billy's place instead of nesta.
Judge by their ability, fella !!

Tassotti - San Franco - San Billy - San Paolo
Donadoni - Rickjaard - Deme/Savicevic - Gullit

only undecided about whether to choose Deme or Savicevic, maybe Deme would get the nod as I like him better ;)
what a damn good team! :firedev:

i like that defense..... best Italian Defense !
i wonder if their age are 20's .... they could own the world with no sweat ... :D:D
oh yeah ... dont forget about the unsuccessful/successful class player such as Kluivert, Rivaldo, Lehmann, Davids, Viera, Di Canio, Reiziger, Bogarde, Blomqvist, Aliyu, A.Anderson, Bierhoff, Albertini, Contra, Jose Mari, Roque Junior, Gre-No-Li, Papin, Ancelotti, Cesare Maldini, Sacchi(was he a milan player too ? forgot ...), Simone, etc ...
Paolo Maldini is the bestEST of all i think ..... he deserved it ... he was there when Milan up or down ... 20 seasons with Milan proves it .... loyal and talented player that world ever have ....

I dont think dejan will be fine there.
Maybe instead of one of the flanks or the strikers.

I think in Goirre's system Savicevic would probably push forward to support the forwards. Personally, I'd swap Savicevic with Gullit and have it similar to the current Milan, where Gullit supports the forward and Savicevic has a free role similar to Seerdorf
