I am surprised that no one has opened a thread for him. I feel really sorry for both the club and him. It's a Andre Cruz de ja vu... I really thought he could become successful based on how much hype people give to him. I guess he belongs to La Liga but not Serie A. So good luck to him and hope it won't haunt us back...

I don't think it was free and some sites say 'undisclosed fee'

Depor sign Coloccini from AC Milan
MILAN, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Deportivo Coruna have signed Argentine international defender Fabricio Coloccini from AC Milan for an undisclosed fee, according to the Italian champions.

A spokesman for Milan confirmed that Coloccini, 23, had signed for Deportivo in a permanent deal but the Spanish club said the deal would be finalised later on Monday.

Coloccini, who has 11 caps and played in Argentina's winning Olympic team in Athens last year, is believed to have moved on a six-year deal.

He joined Milan from Boca Juniors in 1999 but was moved out on loan to Spanish clubs Alaves, Atletico Madrid and Villareal.

He returned to Milan this season but was unable to break out of the fringes of the team with captain Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Alessandro Costacurta and Dutchman Jaap Stam ahead of him in the central defensive role.

He had potential, but clearly there was no room for him at Milan.

Good luck to him

IMO, this was a mistake...despite his poor performances for Milan, I still think that he is an excellent player with potential, and we shouldnt have sold him, but maybe loaned him out for a season or so.

He is not Milan material right now, but let me hasten to add that neither is Stam at the moment..but does that mean we should sell Stam as well?

We have extremely high standards at Milan defensively, from the legacy left by Baresi to that still being lain by San Paolo and Nesta, our standards are ridiculously high, and any defender of lesser calibre than Nesta would have had trouble settling in, and performing well.

With Bonera out of the picture, who do we have in the wings to replace Paolo and Billy when they leave? Dont say Stam, as at this juncture, he is not worthy, plus, he is in his 30s already.

Colo should have been given more opportunity, and I am sorry to see him leave. He is one of the better young defenders in the game, and it is a pity that we couldnt find the patience to allow him to grow and improve under such excellent tutors as those we have in our back line.

Coloccini wanted to leave, and he stated that he did'nt want a loan move he wanted to settle in other club. Maybe he was right, Milan singed him in 2000 and loaned him to San Lorenzo, Atl Madrid, Villareal.

A decent deal for all parties, my only regret is that we didn't sell him for 15 million back in 2001. There were rumours about a transfer for that amount back then...

would I be right in thinking that a friendly against Deportivo was where Van Basten's eventual career ending injury was inflicted?
