Milan are reportedly interested in David Pizarro and Mariano Barbosa to act as understudies to key players at San Siro.
Speculation suggests that Udinese midfielder Pizarro and Argentine goalkeeper Barbosa are wanted to provide cover in Carlo Ancelotti's multi-talented squad.
The Rossoneri are rumoured to be ready to challenge city rivals Internazionale for the signature of Pizarro.
Pizarro has been close to leaving Udinese for Lazio in the past while Inter have been long-term suitors of the Chilean.
But now Milan have thrown their hat into the ring and are ready to offer €8 million, although Udinese want €10 million.
Milan's interest in Pizarro is due to their desire to ensure they have a quality replacement for Andrea Pirlo on the occasions the Italy international is unavailable.
Meanwhile, Barbosa claims he is a target for Milan as the Serie A champions want him as back-up to Brazilian keeper Dida.
His current understudy Christian Abbiati is expected to be sold in the summer and Banfield shot-stopper Barbosa is aware of Milan's interest.
"I have been told about what the press said that Milan is interested in me but I don't want to think about that because the club hasn't told me anything," said Barbosa, who has caught the eye of Albacete in the past.

Barbosa is OK....we wouldnt be getting the next great GK, but a solid one with nice potential.
i wish we can get frey and loan him out to a club for a good price until dida retires
Pizzaro would definalty be a good signing as back-up for Pirlo. I think we will need someone who can give him a rest next season because at the moment we really don't have anyone who can do this.
As for goalkeepers, I thought someone on another thread said we would be signing Cudicini from Chelsea?

Cudicini has been rumoured for a while actually. Personally i think he might make a good backup if he's willing to be one
Yes I agree. Everyone in England says he is the 2nd best goalkeeper in the Premier League, only behind Peter Cech. If he was at any other team than Chelsea, he would play every match.
Pizzaro = :)
Cudicini = :)
Jankulowski = :)
Gilardino = :3band:
What Henrik said, plus ...
Cassetti :)
nah, cudicini won't move to play backup, why would he? he'll go to a smaller team in italy to play full time. maybe a parma replacement if frey moves or something like that. I dunno who to get to replace Abiati, another oldster I guess with Barbosa being 3rd choice for a season then moving to 2nd and then who knows. (if we sign him and he turns out to be any good, a lot of "ifs")
I'd still rather Emre over Pizzaro.
some good backup keepers that come to my mind are: lazios peruzzi and sereni, inters fontana, lecces sicigniano

What do you guys think of Juninho Pernambucano as a Pirlo replacement? He's Brazilian and plays for Lyon. At 30 years of age he might be tempted to join Dhorasoo at Milan. Him being 30 would be a great plus for us for we would be getting a very experienced player plus he is not very likely to complain if he's Pirlo's back-up given that he is getting closer to the age a player must start thinking about his retirement. Furthermore, JP is a very, very skilful player who resembles Pirlo in his movement on the pitch. Has great technique, incredible view on the game, and his shot is really good - both powerful and accurate. IMO, he is the player that comes closest to Pirlo in modern football.
There is also physical resemblance with Pirlo - they look so much alike, a bit like brothers, IMO.
A plus would be his relatively low price, I guess, for he is already 30 and is coming from the French league.

I've seen him play a few times this season. He looks pretty good. But has he been playing well for some time, or just this season?
hes been very impressive for a good time now and besides what zlatanov mentioned he also has one of the most dangerous free kicks in the game something which can annoy me about pirlo is that he wastes alot of them.

Very true. JP has been in Lyon's team for their last 2 championship titles (2 of 3 in a row) and they are very well placed to win the title again for the 4th straight year, and this is apart from their presence in the last 8 in UEFA CL - Paul Le Guen is doing a fantastic job over there.
JP is, both physically and technically, a Pirlo clone - or maybe it is the other way around - and he has been very consistent in his performances over the past 2-3 years. Before joining Lyon, I think he played for PSG but I am not sure. The reason he is not that well known is that he never had the chance to play in a top team like Milan. Lyon is easily the most successful team he has ever played with.
He would be a great addition to an already very capable Milan midfield, I am sure of that.
EDIT: OK, my bad - He came from Vasco da Gama(Bra) straight to Lyon and has been there for all of their 3 back-to-back titles.
Here is something more on him:

Juninho is an awsome player imo
Him and Dhorasoo were the two most influencial players for Lyon in the past few seasons and he's a massively creative force. I can't say that when I've seen him I saw him in the Pirlo role as Dhorasoo usually filled this position (I haven't been able to see Juninho this season).
Two points, will he be able to fill the Pirlo role in Italy (a lot harder than in some other countries as your under more pressure) and secondly, will he accept being a squad player. A player of his ability is more likely to want first team football while he's at his peak.
Finally, are Lyon actually willing to let him go?
Personally, I would love to see him at Milan as I believe he's a great player thats underestimated at times in football as he's never had the chance in a giant club, with all due respect to Lyon who are consistent CL performers.

This could be one of the pillars of possible negotiations - he could be willing to trade regular football in France for a place in Milan which he will have to fight for. He has achieved everything with Lyon that could be won with a team of their callibre - 3 consecutive French titles and well on course for the 4th in a row. Although Lyon have a very goot team, I doubt they will be able to lift the CL. Furthermore, this year has been their best ever in CL performance and if they don't make it now they will never get there again, at least JP won't be there anymore. Basically, at the end of the season, JP will have reached his absolute top at Lyon and will probably relish the opportunity to try his luck in one of the world's greatest - something he has never had the chance to experience so far in his career. He is 30 and I am sure if Milan steps in, he will be aware that this is a chance of a lifetime for him. After 4 French titles and so much success, I doubt Lyon won't let him go if he asks them to.
I am pretty sure, from his characteristics as a player, that he will do very well in Italy and could even win a role in midfiled not just in Pirlo's position.
