Milan clubs rejected Toni

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has revealed that Milan and Inter turned down the opportunity to sign Fiorentina striker Luca Toni in the summer.
The Stadio Barbera outfit gave both Milan clubs the option of signing the prolific goalscorer when it became clear he wanted to move on in the close season.
“Before I sold him to Fiorentina I offered him to Milan and Inter,” said Zamparini. “But it is easy to speak with hindsight.
“If Alberto Gilardino had scored as many goals as Toni up to now we wouldn’t be talking about it - but that’s the great thing about football.”
While Gilardino has scored four goals for the Rossoneri this term, Tonigol – as he is already affectionately known as to Viola fans in homage to the great Gabriel Batistuta or ‘Batigol’ – has been in the form of his life.
The former Brescia and Palermo marksman has already netted 12 times in 10 games for Fiorentina this season.
He has been receiving rave reviews for his excellent all-round game and even managed a hat-trick for the national team.
Meanwhile, Zamparini also hinted that a former Viola player could be on his way to the Rosanero.
Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo, who has been out of favour and unsettled at the San Siro since the arrival of Julio Cesar, has been linked with a move to Sicily.
“Toldo might be coming here, yes,” confirmed the Palermo chief.

And I still think we have done the right thing...He is on fire lately but it doesn't necessarily mean that he would show the same performance with Milan, a team with a lot more pressure and a lot more demands than Fiorentina
toni would be better investent that vieri for sure , but milan got vieri for free and spent a lot of money for gila so it couldnt worked other way...

It doesn't make any sense... Vieri is not any "investment", I can't see the link with Toni... :dontkn: :rollani:

Its easy to score for Tony in Fiorentina because he is the only one that score other can't do it anyways, Gila scored five which is not bad considering his competion, Sheva, Inzaghi, Vieri ( he is no big competion but still we gonna count him as that). I wanna see Toni score 12 goals along with Sheva, he would have ZERO.

gila is our future no more strikers before inzaghi and vieri

Toni is good for one thing: being a lone striker, when the whole team is working for him to score a goal....it's not hard to understand why we didn't want him in the summer. Berlusconi wouldn't like to see his team with less than 2 strikers on the field.....
Yes Toni scores regularly (but also he plays in every game, there's no rotation there), but in Milan he couldn't do that I'm sure. Gila has a bigger future ahead of him and we were right to chase him instead of Toni in the summer
I would have liked to have seen us go for toni 2 years ago. He's always impressed me.
but still, i doubt he would have had 12 goals in 10 playing for us. Teams add an extra defensive player when they play us, defend harder and the rotation would mean he would have only played 6 or 7 games.
Gila has done well, he's on 5 goals, that makes him our top league scorer, and he has always scored more in the second half of the season, when we'll need them more.
besides, apart from a couple of goals in the CL and against sampdoria it's not like our fortunes would be that much different with him.
How good did Gila seem at a smaller club with less pressures and NO competition for his place. Im sure Toni is good, but Im sure Gila will show us why everyone on this forum was gagging to see him signed.
gila has been great so far 4 us, and don't forget that gila is yonger that toni.

I just hope Gila and Luca Toni will be on Fire come the World Cup time. :firedev:
Guess youre looking forward to seeing them against Holland too. :grinser:
Gila has scored 7 goal so far in Serie A (in 9 caps) and not 5 as someone wrote. Toni is a good striker but Gila is much better. Beside that he is 5 year younger than Toni so I think Milan coose well because now we have a striker for the future.

someone said vieri has come for free
yes, but his wage is millionaire, so who's more expensive? vieri on free agent and 3 million euro per year or toni with 1 million and half and some millions for his tag price?
i think toni would have been more an investiment
i don't think we would have chosen between gila and toni, more between toni and vieri
I would like to see him in Milan, but I`m agree with a lot of members in this forum that Gila is better than Toni!
