Milan weigh up Toldo option

With goalkeeper Dida suffering a slump in form, Milan are considering making a move for out-of-favour Inter shot-stopper Francesco Toldo.

Dida’s performance levels have taken a dip ever since last year’s Champions League quarter-final match against Inter, during which the Brazilian was struck by a firework launched from the crowd.

Where in the past he has been the modicum of assurance between the posts, doubt and indecision has begun to afflict the South American’s game.

Sunday was a case in point, when he spilled a relatively straightforward free-kick into the path of Obafemi Martins, who scored Inter’s second goal with ease.

It is thought that, with Milan having already given up on the title race, Dida may be rested in favour of reserve ‘keeper Zeljko Kalac, who, so far, has only played in the Coppa Italia win over Brescia.

Should Kalac, who signed a three-year deal in the summer, fail to impress in the next few weeks, Milan are considering signing Toldo in the summer.

The former Italy goalkeeper has lost his place to Julio Cesar at Inter and has been linked with a loan move to Palermo and Benfica in January.

Should his performances on loan impress Rossoneri scouts, the former Fiorentina guardian would be available for free in June.

In addition to Toldo, the San Siro outfit are also said to be monitoring the progress of Livorno ‘keeper Marco Amelia.

The 23-year-old has kept nine clean sheets this season and has received glowing reports from Livorno Coach and former Rossoneri midfielder Roberto Donadoni.

Totally false...

see below from Galliani (source, official website, acmilan.it)

"Galliani then spoke about Nelson Dida: ‘We have two great keepers in Dida and Kalac, and we have Abbiati’s contract. I called Nelson this morning and told him to come in whenever he wants to renew his contract.’ "

Ustari is the long term solution for us. Write his name down.

Agreed on Frey as well. He is only 25 and very good already. He is among my favorites GKs.

still too young to tell but certainly one to keep an eye on. Frey is probably the most obvious choice. Hildebrand and Gomes would be also good choices, I think. Still, I hope Dida stays with us for another 2 years, at least, but he has been our most regular player over the past 3 years, so he does need some rest to recharge his batteries. I think Kalac can do the job and we wont need Toldo or someone else for now.

Toldo? Seriously?

I think that's just a rumor to shake up Inter. I can't see him at Milan.

There are better young goalies as others have mentioned. Getting Toldo would be a step backwards in my opinion.
(Same as getting Zebina for Abbiati, eeeeeee gads)

If Milan wants to be the best, they need to train/sign the best. No Kalac's or Eitholpolous or whatever his name is, and no Toldo's.

He is playing his first games as a pro. I wouldnt be surprised to see him make the jump to Europe next june. He is the kind of GK that you can have for 15 years. I think in no time he will be regarded as one of the best keepers in the game.

This is from the official Milan site:

TOTAL CONFIDENCE IN DIDA
12/13/2005
MILAN – Milan have total confidence in Dida and are not looking for another keeper. He’s not alone, there’s another great keeper in this club, Kalac. In addition, the club still own Abbiati and he is doing well with Juventus. It is therefore logical that Milan have never had other ideas for an area in which they are so well covered. The same goes for other positions as well. Milan will continue with Dida and Kalac, who are both internationals, and have the option over Christian Abbiati, who is back in the Italy squad.

So, no worries. Toldo won't join Milan.
