View Full Version : Galliani: " We have no defensive questions to answer".

The San Siro giants have struggled defensively this term and have subsequently been linked with a host of possible transfer targets.
Nevertheless, Galliani has told fans that he is more than happy with the players already at Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal.
"We already have a host of defenders to choose from," he said after Inter’s Marco Materazzi was the latest to be associated.
"They are called Alessandro Nesta, Paolo Maldini, Marcos Cafu, Dario Simic and the rest. We have no defensive questions to answer."
_____
I swear to all you that I'm trying real hard to understand what goes on Galliani's mind, but I simply cannot!!! Our defense is to say the least shaky on the current season, and he insists in deny the more than blatant need of a reshape!!! Meanwhile a lousy little club like Hamburg purchases a great player like De Jong for only 1 M....
And people say that I have to be optimistic, my goodness... :frustrat: :frustrat: :frustrat:

IMO, it´s even more clear now(I wrote this in other post), that Milan only will go to buy defenders for the next season.
Of course, with the form of our defenders, Galiani and co. are gambling, but it´s clear that they already had made the choice. Now, for us, only remains to pray...
To be optimistical, as Galiani said in other article, in the january market they can´t see a player to help Milan. So, they will be aggressive in the end of season(like in Gila case), and will go to buy 1(or 2)top defenders that are now, cup tied.
Remember that in this phase of the year, they praise Gila, but said that they would not go to buy it...
IMO Milan will go hard in the names of Alex, Cris or Chivu next summer(winter for me :guw: )

One has to put in mind the following: if we didn't begin a partial amd rational renewment of the squad as soon as possible, we will have to do a radical reshuflement in 2007, necessarily needing to change 7 to 8 players at once!
Please GRE-NO-LI be reasonable. No need to be melodramatic about the situation. Yes, we need defenders, no doubt about that. Unfortunately as Brasileiro has said the January window isn't as plentiful and as full of high-quality, proven want-aways as the Summer, so most likely in this late date of 27/1/06 we won't see anything go down this month. But I have faith Galliani and Co. will renew the squad properly and pick up players they need, as opposed to want.
So that being said, I guess we'll just have to free-ball it, won't we? When finally fully fit I'd take a Cafu, Nesta, Maldini, Kaladze back line with all their experience and expertise. With perhaps a reshuffled midfield to cover them better, of course. :p286:
Anyway 7 or 8 players in GRE-NO-LI? What 7 or 8 players do you have in mind? And in turn who will leave?

let's not get semantic on here (he mentioned x before y, didn't praise z enough).
More: we need defenders, but not any defender, because in this case we wouldn't raise our defensive quality level that much.
We need great defenders, just like Nesta in 2002/03. After his signing we got immmediately better, won the CL with an iron defence etcetera.
But the great defenders must be on the market and i doubt any team around will leave them go before the summer.
We need class defenders andI think Galliani is working on it. Chivu is no.1 target for Milan, but we seriousely need a RB. Maybe we'll get Lugano also but I cant see him improving our backline drasticaly. Chivu,Terlizzi for the CB. A good RB and a midfielder will do for next year.
Well im from romania, and chivu is from romania..so i saw at a local tv station that chivu said hes stayng at roma an doesen plan to go anywere:(..i hope he changes his mind by the end of season,i dont like the politic that galiani does,he keeps bringin old players, amoruso wasent needed ,what wee need is fresh new players in the defence, not old ones.

No no, you didn't understand me, or maybe it was my atrocious english writing. What I want to say is that if we didn't begin a partial and rational renewment of the squad as soon as possible, we will have to purchase 7 or 8 players in a row by 2007, and that is obviously not a good thing to do.
I agree with Giovanni! We do need a couple of defenders, but not just any defenders. It looks like we are desperate. Every day, a new name is linked with us, and i would hate to see the management make a fast decision and sign just a DECENT player. We need world-class defenders, not just anyone that will make the papers shut up.
Today, I read on channel4 that Gavrancic is linked with us. I have seen him play and I do respect him. He has been performing in "Crvena Zvezda" and Dinamo Kiyev great in the past. But honestly, is he the one that will solve the problems?....or is he the one that will just make the press shut up. Again......he is just the freshest link so he is my example. This also goes for the other players linked to Milan this past month.
I am against signing anyone this January:
First.........because we might just hurry our judgement because we seem to be desperate
Second.....best transfers are made in the summer market, because in January there is always the risk that the player wont just fit in the system and the group that well. It is different when the player is present from the very beggining of a season.
Third........Most players are made available for transfer in the summer. We shouldn't waste money on alternatives in January. For me, most of the time it is wasted money.
Forth........This January.....There is no great players available. The players like Barzagli, Chivu, etc. might become available in the summer, and their clubs will be more willing to sell them then rather then in the middle of a season....but they are NOT available now. So to splash some millions on an alternative player ,just because some people and the press seem to be desperate, is wrong.
What we should do is get everyone healthy. Maldini, Cafu, Stam, Ambrosini. Don't forget....not even a year ago we had the best defence in the world. These guys didn't forget how to play in 8 months, and Maldini wasnt 10 years younger 8 months ago as well.
This whole thing is about drop in form. We should work to get back in form again and gather some confidence. And then.........when the right players come along........we throw some cash and get a couple of them. That is how you improve. You don't just go and desperatly get anyone that is available and hope it will work out for the best.
I consider this team one of the best five on the planet. I still believe in Serie A and I definetly think we can win the CL. We don't need a stupid desperate transfer to make this happen. Just have confidence!!
FORZA MILAN!!!

we been doing that all the time. Kaka for Rui. Gila for Inzaghi. our midfield was renewed before that. Defense is next.

Milan mull over Gavrancic
27.1 || webmaster
Source: Football Italia
Milan have turned their attentions to Dynamo Kiev defender Goran Gavrancic, according to reports in Italy.
The towering Serbia and Montenegrin has impressed Rossoneri scouts this term, where he is enjoying his third successful season with the Ukraine club since joining from Red Star Belgrade, and has been identified as a strong contender to fill the gaps in Milan’s leaky defence.
Although the Italian giants continue to claim that they do not need rearguard recruits and that the side need to focus on improving their defending as a team, it is clear that age and form are beginning to betray the likes of Paolo Maldini, Billy Costacurta and Jaap Stam.
Vice-President Adriano Galliani insisted again yesterday that there would be no defenders coming to Milanello in January, and that Jaap Stam had not, as reported, asked to leave this month.
However, with Andriy Shevchenko also having given a glowing recommendation of the 27-year-old plying his trade at his former club, Gavrancic is definitely interesting the outfit, who would also be able to buy him at an appealing price.
It is thought that £2.75m would be sufficient to lure the imposing centre-back to the San Siro side.
The Rossoneri are now weighing up whether to bid for the player now or wait until the summer, when they run the risk of a strong World Cup showing from Gavrancic increasing his market value.
The player is already being tracked by the Premiership trio of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham.
I think if we really sign Gavrancic we won`t improve immediately,so it`d be better to wait and get a quality defender ...I mean,he is a good defender,no doubt about that, but i`m worried about his adapting to Italian style of playing. He was great for our national team though.Well..he`s pretty cheap, that`s for sure.*clueless*
Anyway,i think we have made a mistake by missing out on signing Vidic who recently joined ManU.(since he was related to us as well)As i previously mentioned several times,i think he`d pretty much be a defender we are looking for.Very similar to Nesta, tall, good at aerial play and can play both as a CB and LB.(much better as a CB though)I don`t know how`s he doing at ManU now(and if he`s playing at all).
I hope we get Barzagli,IMO he`s really good,i reckon he`d perform well at Milan.
Oh OK, GRE-NO-LI, I misunderstood you. :embarass: I went over your post again and just noticed you put "in 2007". Now I understand, stupid me.

As I said a few weeks ago, Galliani is a liar and has no credibility. I'm sure the press interview him just to see what idiotic comment he makes next.

GRE-NO-LI makes much more sense than you do. He may not be the sharpest poster around, but he speaks truth; he is passionate; he doesn't hurt other people, and so he doesn't deserve nothing of your bull$h!t. :o

ok guys, calm things down.
mk, I understand if Grenoli's posts bother you, but he simply states his opinion and has the right to do so like everyone else. If you don't like his opinion and don't share it, then you will simply have ignore his posts.
mk and prishtina, please refrain from swearing, even if it does get censored. It makes the forum a lot more refreshing if people avoid such language.
Thanks
GRE-NO-LI........Galliani does not make any decisions so don't talk against him. Silvio is the guy the says whats to be done and the guy that writes the check. If he says, that Galliani has 10M$ for the summer then that's it. Galliani is not gonna pay himself, but he needs the resources. And please don't devide the forum into......."People that think everything is fine......and people that want transfers". I do respect you and everyone else in this forums as we are all passionate Milan fans, so don't take this as an offense. I just want to calm things around, as your few threads about who we should buy and the whole "people who think everything is great" division has really irritated some members in here. Again, I am not saying that you are wrong or write, but I just wanna keep everyone together as we all stand on the same side.
That said, don't have bad thoughts about mk18 as he is a great member of this forum. You will learn that as time passes by.
Stay together Rossoneri. Down or on top....we'll do it together.

where is it quoted that 10 million will be spent? I think Milan should go after the Ukranian defender Shevchencko speaks highly of, Cris from Lyon and Sneijder from Ajax, anything else would be great. Another striker would be nice, one with pace. The season could still be very good, as anyone could win the Champions League

Do you mean Gavrancic, he's not Ukrainian he's from Serbia and he'll be a good addition to our squad he's a great defender has good technique and shooting skills also, and he could play as a DM

yes, the serbian looks like a very good player if we can get him, and if we can get cris now we have a defense we can build upon. If we put the serb at DM and had Cris at central defnese with Nesta, wow....well one can dream. One player I wish we got was Cincinho, he has looked very good with Real MAdrid. I love Snejider from ajax, defensemen and midifelders the players we need without a doubt. Plus with the loss of Stam our defnese takes precedence over anything else.
