View Full Version : Germany-Sweden
For me, in this match we have the biggest candidate to win the World Cup, Germany. They might not have such a good team, but they've been effective so far, and being at home is a big help.
being in their home in this WC make them candidate to win .. sweden isn't a big team they have some good players like Fredrik Ljungberg , Ibrahimovic but that's all .. and ibrahimovic last game wasn't activated at all .. so German IMO are fauvorite in this game .. i can't agree with u that arn't such a good team .. :) they have young players which shows us that he made a good job .. players playing inwe can't see many young this WC .. and strikers like M.Klose who can turn every chance in goal .. :dontkn:

And they also have very crappy defence.
Costa-Rica scored twice against them.
If they have problems against Costa Rica imagine what would be if they ran into
Italy,Portugal fr.example.

based on latest perfomace I would agree with Pa7uel that Germany are up there among the most serious contenders for the WC - teams like Brazil, Argentina, Italy.
Their defence has been performing very well and is proving to be a solid one - I know that Friedrich messed up twice in the game vs Costa Rica but since then they have looked solid to say the least, and even in that game the problems were caused by lack of concentration by one single player in that defence.
Still, I rate Sweden very highly and wouldn't be surprised to seem them progress at the sake of Germany. i would expect this to be a pretty even affair but still my pick is the Germans to win it in the end.
Pay close attention to #17 from the Germans - Per mertesacker. He's a youg CD, 195cm tall, who seems to be on Milan's wish list. He's been excellent so far.
Sverige is done. I agree Zlat. I'm not big on Germany but they are always serious contenders in any championship. Plus it gives us a better look at thus Lahm guy a lot here have been interested in.
Lucic is Man of the Match! That's for sure. Scored own goal, made a terrible mistake when Klose passed to Podolski who has scored after that and finally get second yellow in such a stupid situation. :punch: If I were him I wont come back to Sweden... by the way... he is not sweden IMO... Lucic sounds like serbian or bosnian etc. :rollani:

The Swedes really havent started today, maybe they think they won the group and play tommorow
Far too much space given between defence and midfield...
Can someone explain to me why a ref needs time to think before giving a card? Whether or not Lucic deserved that second one the ref was not going to give it at first.

Podolski scored two goals, but so far Klose is probably the best player on the pitch as he had a major hand in both goals, got Lucic a RC, and has been a constant menace for the Swedish defence. This is one forward who knows how to attack hint*hint ;) Mertesacker has been very solid at the back so far.
The RC could have been saved though. Of course the ref had every right to give Lucic a RC and sending him off was a good decision but saving Lucic a 2nd YC and just warning him, would have been a great decision IMO - no reason to make the game even more nervous and practically killing it off for a tactical foul like that.
Any, I guess we could safely say that the Germans are through to the next round.

I dont mind the refs taking time to compose themselves if they need to, the important thing is they make the right decision, not the fast decision :D

that was a curious moment indeed. I think an even better decision would have been to just warn the player, show some patience, you know. It's not like it was a rouhg foul or anything.

Lucic is definitely form Balkans,i think from Croatia Lucic is common Croatian surname, but nobody knows for sure.
IMO ref shouldnt sent him off, that was not so rough foul.
Did you noticed how ref was smiling while showing him red card?

yes .. i noticed that :D i thought that he is going to say lucic that .. next time he;s going to show him the RC .. but he showed him RC in that moment ..

If an experienced refs sees a foul he should know immediately if its 'worthy' of a card or if its a foul at all. Composing themselves would be nice for players committing the fouls not the refs.
I will cut Ibra SOME slack as he wasn't 100% fit. However he still could have put in a bigger amount of commitment and desire than he displayed. He is not the man for us.
Sweden were rubbish, where was the closing down of space that they showed against England ? It was non existent. The German strikers did well, created space excellently but they were helped considerably by poor Swedish defending.
Lucic's second yellow was never a foul in the first place let alone worthy of a card. All the badgering of the ref to get the guy a second yellow was uncalled for, they shouldn't do it. They should all be booked for doing that, it's not their decision to make.
The Swedish goalkeeper played really well though, he made many excellent stops. He can go home with his head held high.
Unless Argentina have a dramatic slump in form or confidence then i can't see Mexico or Germany beating them.

I think Ibra is playin wrong role with national side today he looks like a box player do I'm wrong ????

I think the most important thing for German teams, not just this one, have been confidence and/or discipline. Assuming they are facing them, Germany are almost in the sort of shape that can beat most anybody.

agree, I wouldn't be too quick to write off the Germans, especially when they play at home ... and also those Lineker words come to mind ;)

Germany has made it to the WC quarter-finals 15 out of last 16 times. Quite impressive record I says.
the germans are robots, they have the best range of shooting by any team in the tournament easily

yeah, they have incredible shooting ability from long range. The only other team that can rival them is Brazil I think but even they don't count in that department. When I watch the Germans I have a feeling that half of the team's training sessions pass in practicing long range shots as probably 8-9 of the players out there on the field have tremendous long-range shots.
And in tight games where defences rule this can be some weapon.

.
Jim and the other guy who questioned the 2nd yellow one on Lucic,
one does not need to watch the incident twice, it was an obvious obstruction:
got beat, rounded and started to interfere with the hand behind the back to slow down the run-away train from frustration/humiliation. 100% positive this must be a YC.

agreed, Lucic has no one to blame but himself as he gave away 2 stupid fouls that were both barely past the half way line.
The Germans looked strong today but dont underestimate the value of an early goal, they've got them in 3 of their 4 games so far and it immediately allows them to dictate the play whilst putting massive pressure on their opposition.
Donīt know if I should laugh or cry!
lucic barely touched Klose for his second yellow, if that constitutes a yellow card then all games will finish with 8 v 8. I don't see how it can be obstruction, Klose was away and if he kept running Lucic wouldn't have caught him. Instead Klose just threw his arms in the air like a girl, complained and got Lucic booked. You can't honestly say that that mearest of touches on Klose was enough to fully stop him full flight ? If he was focusing on the game instead of trying to get the man sent off he would have carried on his run easily.
The standard of refereeing is a joke, every slightest thing is a yellow card now and it ruins the game.
