Italian make to the final once every 12 years 1970, 1982, 1994 and 2006 with the record of loss, win, loss.......... should be a win. In 1982 Italy was recovering from Totonero scandal, now there's calciopoli. In 1982 in the semi's Italy beat Poland 2-0. (Nation of John Paul 2). In 2006 they beaten Benedict's Germany 2-0 in the semi.
The only disadvanage, France beaten Italy in 1986, 1998 and 2000.

the reasons?
defence, order, concentration on the final target
even if we played with 10 men, cause Totti wasn't in his best conditon.
I find very interisting this post written by an Argentinian :
".....
.....
About mad zizou, here his past, in other words what happens when the mist descends
Zinédine Zidane’s brilliant career ended in ignominy when he was sent off in the World Cup final.
" EVEN WORSE THAN VINNIE "
Zinédine Zidane has been sent off 14 times in his career,
two more than Vinnie Jones.
Here are those red cards in full . . .
Sep 1993: Marcel Desailly, the Marseilles defender, punches him and the Bordeaux midfield player retaliates in kind.
Aug 1995: Slaps Thorsten Fink, a Karlsruhe player, in the face.
Oct 1995: Sees red for a tackle from behind on Frédéric Mendy, a Martigues player.
Sep 1996: At Juventus, sent off against Perugia after two bookings.
Jan 1997: Punches Enrico Chiesa, of Parma.
June 1998: Stamps on Fuad Amin, the Saudi Arabia captain, during World Cup finals.
Oct 1998: Commits a two-footed challenge on Paolo Sousa, the Inter Milan player.
Oct 1999: Receives a second yellow card for diving against AS Roma.
Sep 2000: Late challenge on Emerson, the Deportivo La Coruña midfield player, in Champions League.
Oct 2000: Butts Jochen Kientz, of SV Hamburg, and receives five-match ban.
Feb 2004: First sending-off at Real Madrid for thrusting hand into face of Pablo Alfaro, the Seville defender.
May 2004: Sent off for second booking after a rash challenge on Djalminha, the Deportivo midfield player.
April 2005: Tries to punch Quique Álvarez, the Villarreal defender.
July 2006: Butts Marco Materazzi in chest during World Cup final

Italy was obviously the best team in the tournament... havin' scored in every single game... concedin' only an own goal from a set-piece & another from a set-piece which is a PK... havin' all 6 recognized strikers (Gilardino... Inzaghi... Toni... Del Piero... Totti & Iaquinta...) on the score-sheet... both full-backs (Zambrotta & Grosso...) also amongst the scorers... as well as havin' to deal with a scandal back home... the attempted suicide of a veteran ex-player... havin' their coach & captain implicated with the scandal & asked to step down just prior to the WC... not to mention that the majority of the all-star squad is made up of Italians... namely Buffon (winner of the Lev Yashin award for top GK) in goal... Cannavaro (Silver Ball winner) in defence... Zambrotta (regarded as the best fullback in the WC) in defence... Pirlo (winner of 3 Fifa MOM awards) in midfield... Gattuso (winner of 3 Football Italia MOM awards) in midfield... some might even include Grosso & Perrotta in that squad...

AZZURRI DESERVED IT........no matter what superstition was around them
but isnt totti a midfielder?? bcoz he is listed as one..........
i want to add that in 1982 .. after the world cup there was a war in my country (lebanon) .. and in 2006 .. the same thing
the problem is that italy did not qualify to euro 1984 ... so let's hope that's the only difference between 1982 and 2006

Italy played very well...the defence was brilliant, and this was decisive I think.
The reason is clear why Italy won the world cup, Gattuso threatened to beat them all up (starting with Lippi) if they didn't triumph :D
Hey Oksana :) How's married life? Hope you are well.

Hey! Married life is not really different from unmarried :hmmm: . We are looking for a house to buy at the moment. Everything is great. And how are you?
About Gattuso...he is an animal, isn't he? :)
I'm well thank you Oksana and i'm glad everything is going well for both of you too :)
I miss our 'discussions' about Gilardino! :delol:
Yes, Gattuso is an animal. Some sort of raging bull-like figure. I'm glad he's on our side.
Great photo by the way :D

I miss our discussions too...I ve posted smth in "Gilardino is our new Sheva" thread. :devf: And thx for the compliment. :nail:
haha ... i think you'd win these discussions. Unlike the world cup where i could watch Italy's matches, i can't view any of Milan's matches as i don't have the right tv channels or a broadband connection.
It's a great photo, so i felt it was only right to tell you so ... hehe :grinser:

Well, thx... :pp18:
Yes I can watch all Milan matches. We illigally brought Italian Sky to London and watch every match. But you can watch the highlights. Many people post them on MM.

Blatter apologises for Italy win
FIFA President Sepp Blatter has further infuriated Italian fans by apologising to Australia for the Azzurri’s World Cup victory.
The second round match was goalless and heading for extra time following Marco Materazzi’s controversial straight red card when Fabio Grosso fell over a Lucas Neill challenge.
Francesco Totti stepped up to convert the stoppage-time penalty with the last kick of the game on June 26 and send Italy on towards their eventual Final triumph.
Australian supporters were angry at the decision by Spanish referee Luis Medina Cantalejo and the FIFA President stepped out of his official role to make a bizarre announcement.
“I agree with them and I would like to apologise to our fans in Australia,” said Blatter. “The Socceroos should have gone into the quarter-finals in place of Italy, because they were up to beating Italy.”
The Azzurri went unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, notching up four wins and two draws in the 90 minutes – seeing off Germany 2-0 in extra time and beating France on penalties in the Final.
Blatter had already caused controversy with his comments after the July 9 Berlin match by stating it was “a tragedy” to see the World Cup assigned on a shoot-out.
This was the second time the trophy had been decided this way, as in 1994 Italy lost to Brazil in Pasadena.
The FIFA President also failed to hand over the World Cup to Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro. He was in the stands, but UEFA President Lennart Johansson took these duties instead. It has never been clarified why the change was made.
"I think the referees were not at their best," continued Blatter. "I think they were too well prepared or not looked after the right way. They were in a military camp situation. And I think there was too much cheating on the players' side.”
Yet Italy also felt aggrieved by the refereeing in the Australia match, as Medina Cantalejo showed Materazzi a straight red card for a late, but by no means violent, tackle on Palermo midfielder Mark Bresciano.
“I certainly don’t think it was worthy of a straight red, but I saw the referee’s eyes were determined, so decided not to argue and risk a longer ban,” said Matrix at the time.
“The important thing is that the world saw what happened.” So did FIFA, who only handed the Inter hard man, standing in for the injured Alessandro Nesta, the regulation one-match suspension.
