So, the first leg will be at San Siro? :rone:
It's quite curtain, we're gonna play against Crvena Zvezda (Red star), they won the first leg at Cork with 0-2... :rollani:

not to be cynical, but do you think the draw could effect our chances of getting in, surely sponsors, uefa etc would prefer to see Milan in the groups over Red Star or Cork City.

Red Star only won 1-0. But you're right. There is no way Cork are going to win in Belgrade.

I still have memories of when we met them in Belgrade in the beginning of the 90's. God damn...

But i'm looking forward to see Delije. They are simply insane!

we were unlucky to lose to red star 2days ago with an unlucky own goal and we were missing 4 of our key players due to injury and suspensions(after final whistle in the limmasol game )

we hope to progress and then we will hopefully visit your famous city and set up a huge champions league game!!

Ciao Milano,

I might be numero 3, 4, 5 (not sure) but I am sure you will see many more Cork City supporters appearing hereover the next few weeks

Red Star were lucky last Wednesday. Their "Star" player Zigic had two english premiership managers over to watch him. As was reported on the newspapers, the only contribution he made to the game was to receive a yellow card. Donkey (Mule or Ass). They were not impressive at all. We should have a very good chance of beating them next week.

Look forward to welcoming you to Ireland when you come over. We have a large Italian support group that travel over from Bologne to some of our games.

we know there is great atmosphere at the Marakana, but hey?! Milan plays in front of Curva Sud! And after all, Zvezda players need to think about not being demolished by kaka, pippo, gila, sedorf, gattuso, pirlo, serginho and so on.... at the Marakana Milan will play their usual away game, and win 0-1.

I agree (only) with your second part of the post. But, I've heard that your most important players were resting on their holidays, untill few days ago, becausee they thought they wont be playing ECL. So, I guess, that they wont be fully fit for the first match at San Siro. And, in my opinion, if we don't lose in first match more than one goal, anything is possible at Marakana.

OK i am from Serbia but not RS fan so I think I can be objective.RS plays 3 times better at least on Marakana than enywhere else.Sorry Cork guys but with or without your best players you dont have a chanse and that is the ultimate true. For a proof take a look at a game 2 years ago RS-PSV 0-5 in Holland and 3-2 in Serbia.Just to say THAT PSV team almost kicked Milan out in Semi-final of CL when Ambrossini scored in 90 min...But it all returns in final(Sorry I am also Liverpool fan) But we must also admit that AC Milan is in a HUGE advantage against RS.The first game in Milan is their BIG chanse because in Belgrad they must play with 100% if they want to win.
That's all for now.Bye!

fenix, I agree with you on that ZV plays much better at home than away - actually, given the mentality of Balkan teams, they are all like that - but your example is hardly any proof for anything.
1) every game has its unique flavour and to say that if CV beat a PSV team that almost eliminated Milan is just plain throwing sand in your own eyes. Last year PSV made our lives dif in the groups but after that Lyon were all over them; we beat Lyon - not much logic here but that's football
2) unless the first game was in Maracana, after a 5-0 victory it's natural to see PSV take their foot off the pedal, all they need is make sure that they keep the game under control as even an average loss takes them through. If the result in Hollan had been 1-0 and not 5-0, it would have been a very different story
My only concern is that Milan won't be anywhere near their 100% of physical and game fitness when they play Zvezda, especially for the first game at SS. But even that way, I honestly don't think that ZV, even if they peak out in those games, stand much of a chance of going through. The ZV team of 10-15 years ago yeah but this one is a world away from those levels.

Right ... all you belgrade fans and cork city fans need to start discussing and thinking about your game i know its a honour for you to play milan , but i seriously think stop thinking soo forward , but truthfully i see belgrade going through since thier home next game with a 1 - 0 lead ... but 1 - 0 leads are :tong: a bit fishy and really unreliable it takes a hell lot of concentration to hold leads like that , so belgrade if thier to progress need to get one early in the game as for cork city thier gonna have to keep having a go at belgrade

Billy1969

Why fans of other teams register on adversary boards and post their crap on it is beyond me, I never lowered myself to that, isn't there any honour left in the world? Respect your opponent and don't come taunt him in his home, goes both ways btw, my lesson # 1 of football courtesy.

isn't he by chance coming from CSKA Sofia, Ibrahima Guy - Defensive mid/central Defender type of player. If so, good luck to him and ZV, they will need it ;)

Not quite, the last season he played in Turkey, Malatyaspor or something...
But yes, he played 5 years for CSKA Sofia. Kaka shouldn't be worried, Guy is strong phisically, but often makes serious mistakes, his tactical skills are quite doubtful... ;) :r11:

I know most of you know this, but i see that some Red Star fans got really exited and are overestimating their chances against Milan and are calling on history to back their wishes.
This Red Star in 2006, is simply uncomparable with the Red Star from 1989/90, and especially 1990/91.
Back then Red Star had the best players of ex-Yugoslavia, and Yugoslavia had the best team of all times in early 90's.
Red Star had players like Savicevic who then became Milan legend, Jugovic who was the best Juve player in 1996 CL winning season, young Sinisa Mihajlovic who was scoring long distance goals the same way he did that in Lazio. Red Star had Macedonian Darko Pancev who got the golden boot award in 1991, croatian Robert Prosinecki who was proclaimed the best young player in the world for 1991,Belodedic who then had a great cariere in Valencia and Romanian NT and rocky defense with Sabanadzovic or Najdoski etc.
In 1989/90 they even had Dragan Stojkovic who's , imo, one of the best 3 players Yugoslavia had in it's history !!!
That team won the Champions League in 1991 (Champions Cup as it was called back then) and that team could have eliminated AC Milan.
But the team Red Star has now is light years away from the golden generation of 1991.
I follow Red Star closely because i kinda like this team. I lived in Belgrade for 4 1/2 years and i occasionally went to Maracana to watch Red Star.
There is talent in this Red Star team, with some great young prospects such as Purovic,Basta and Jankovic, with Nikola Zigic being the best player. Zigic is a fantastic forward and he'll make a huge impact in some european big club, but all the others are way below AC Milan players quality.
If Red Star eliminates Corc, then i just can't see them making troubles to Milan !!!

Good luck to all three clubs: Corc, Milan, Red Star !

to be honest I didn't know that. Although I am Bulgarian, I have never been really interested in Bulgarian football and to a certain extent have lost track of who goes where and why. No, he played only for Slavia Sofia in Bulgaria, he was too expensive for Levski Sofia or CSKA Sofia. Last year Slavia loaned him to Alaves, his debut was on "Camp Nou" vs Barcelona

In tomorrow's friendly, Carlo will play with Brocchi at RB and Favalli as CB along Costacurta, most probably.

both games. The game vs lecco will be, in Carlo's words - "a test for the team that will play the 1st qualifier".
Nesta was injured during the WC and even if he's recovered, he probably isn't fit enough to play. Same goes for Paolo - still recovering from that injury at the end of last season. kakha is probably injured. Bonera, as mentioned, is suspended for the 1st game. So, all we are left with is Favalli and Billy for CDs, Simic at RB and Sergio at left.

Brigate S.R.....you know, you guys have won the UCL once in your clubs history..so kindly remember that when you seek to "stir us up" and also kindly remember the saying:

Never awaken a sleeping lion.

I give Red Star Belgrade the utmost respect...since I have heard of their exploits for some time now..and in truth, Milan are not on best form...but we will still beat you with our "B" side.

All you can hope for is a close match...we on the other hand, can hope for a blow out.

Milan had 13 players in the world cup, few of which will feature against your team, and yet, ultimately, we will still beat you.

Enjoy your UCL, as it ends after these two matches.

Well, this is only for the countries from the former Yugoslavia (Serbia, Croatia, Makedonia...). We, the Bulgarians for example, have a letter between these "srn", and that letter do not exist in the English alphabet, and that cause a problem when we have type something in English... :coffee: :u31: We use instead "a" or "u" to type it. For example Balakov. The second "a" could be typed "u", Balukov, and all the Bulgarians will understand that probably "Balakov" and "Balukov" is the one and the same person. Kinda complex, ah?

Back on the topic: As I know, the first leg is at La Scalla, our "San Siro", we just have to win with something like 2-0 or 3-0, the then there would be too less hope for the serbians. And when we score at "Mala Maracana", it would all over, we'll be quallified. :D
So we have to win the first leg at all costs. FORZA MILAAAAAAAAAAAN

Actually, I am glad that the 1st game is at the SS cause CZ will probbaly try to save themselves for the game at Maracana and by the time the 2nd leg comes, I think we will be in much better shape.

I am not liking tha fact that we play at home first, but I guess the strategy for us would be to ensure that they dont score an away goal, a strategy which may actually work in our favor, as they will more than likely come to defend, and try to hit us on the counter...

If we play in a cagey way, (ie, dont overcommit to the attack) then we should still be able to score once or twice, (via through passes to the forwards), while concentrating our defense, to nullify their attack, and deny them the away goal they would so badly want.

Ultimately though, I think Carlo will want us to play our game, ie posession, and rapid counters on the break.

Defenders seem to be coming down with a bug... :kap:
Unavailable for 1st leg: Maldini, Kaladze, Nesta, Bonera
Not looking good: Simic (back pain - recovering) , Cafu (just returned from Brazil and getting back in form)

Probables: Brocchi and Jankulovski as full-backs, Costacurta, Favalli

Favalli just returned from loan & Brocchi is a MF...Darn we get a new defender but he's suspended...we'll see how it goes.

Milan face Champions emergency
5.8 || webmaster

Football Italia

Milan may have to face next week’s Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade with an emergency defence.

Paolo Maldini, Kaka Kaladze and Alessandro Nesta are unavailable for the first leg of the Preliminary Round due to injuries, while Marcos Cafu has just returned from Brazil and is far from top form.

Newly signed Daniele Bonera will also be left out of the game at San Siro on August 9 because of a one-match ban from his time at Parma. The situation deteriorated today with Dario Simic suffering from back pain that makes it unlikely he’ll recover in time for Wednesday.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti will therefore be forced to field Cristian Brocchi and Marek Jankulovski as full-backs, with Alessandro Costacurta and Giuseppe Favalli in the centre of the Rossoneri defence.

Midfielder Brocchi, who just recently returned to Milan after one season with Fiorentina, will make his debut in a position that is totally new for the 30-year-old player, whereas Favalli will return to a role he already covered at both Lazio and Inter.

Czech international Jankulovski is at least familiar with the left-back demands, having regularly taken that position for his country.

Milan played their first summer friendly against Lecco on Wednesday, defeating the Serie C team 2-0, but the Rossoneri defence did not impress.

Qualification to the Champions League group stage is fundamental for the Via Turati outfit, sentenced to start the Serie A Championship with an eight-point deduction because of its involvement in the Calciopoli scandal.

Milan were only given the green light to enter the Champions League on Wednesday after the UEFA Emergency Panel admitted the club, although “deeply concerned” with the Italian scandal.

I'm so sad that we'll be witthout Maldini and nesta but let's pray we'
defeat red star

A defence with Brocchi, Favalli, Costacurta and Jankulovski just isn't good enough. I don't trust this defence, but I hope they will prove me wrong. I'm a bit concerned about this, we must have a good result in the first leg... Damn, this could easily be too thrilling.

*cringe*

So we will play a backup defense against the Red Star. Honestly, do you guys think they can handle Zigic? I trust Billy, I think he's smart enough to handle all-out attack. Speed might be the problem for him though. And a 90-minute play for him is doubtful. If Marek and Brocchi is in form, then, I think it's not a problem. I'm not sure about Favalli though.

If Billy can't lasts for 90-minutes, then, we can bring in some... DM. Or we can start both Ambro and Rino at the same time. Here's hoping Ambro can neutralise Zigic's ariel threat. Am I just imangining there's no Kaka? Damm. There goes our creative mid, since Prilo looks so damm tired after the WC. We have to rely on Seedorf then. Or maybe young Gourcuff. Which makes me doubtful again because going from Rennes to CL in a month makes one hell of a shock.

Gila or Pippo still have to depends on the midfield though. Gila really, really, really, man! I can't stress this enough, really needs at least one goal in CL. Hopefully the WC gave him confidence in his Milan performance.

Man! My post sounds negative. But yea, I believe midfield is the key and winning in San Siro will make our life easier to face them in Belgrade, what's with their fans and all. So, good luck Milan! Kill them with goals.

ciao!

i think we should try ambro in central defense. as far as i know they have tried this in past training sessions but never in a competitive match.

maybe there is a reason for it but just on paper it looks quite promising. massimo is tall, strong in the air, knows how to defend and can open games from the back with intelligent passes.

we'll see

Wow, I'm getting really nervous about this. I'm starting to think there's a slight chance of us not progressing to the group stage of the CL. I might be a bit pessimistic now, but I really don't like this situation. We've only been training for a week or so, and played one practice game against a team from Serie C2 in which we, especially the defence, didn't impress anyone...

Anyway, what about Serginho? Can he play?

Rumours I heard that Kaka and all the Brazillians are suffering from jetleg (don't ask). So they can't get into their match-fitness best when they're playing against Red Star. But since Galliani said he will play, then, I think it is a good news for us fans. *phew*

I read in one of the earlier posts that one of you guys are looking forward to Delije because we are insane. Might be true but you wont see many of our fans from Belgrade in Milan tomorow. Reason !?!?!? Your embassy denied visas to all of them "because of short notice and some trouble we did in earlier encounters against your teams". I say what a load of BS.
As for Zigic. He is not the only player we have. Even though you guys are the favourites I am tipping that we can snatch an away win and for anyone to beat us at home we have to have a bad day and against Italian lubs we rarely do. May the best team (on the day) win.

I am stressed for this game, well actualy for both games as they will decide our immediate transfer policy, if we fail to qualify for the group stages of CL I don't think we should expect big signings anymore (like Buffon, Oddo, Gallas), in normal circumstances I would not fear RSB (with all due respect) but with our complete devastated backline composed of players who never played in those positions together before, I fear the dreaded away goal rule.

My friend, before you say something such foolishly thik first. Yes, we are not team for 91, but we are stil better then one Steaua. First I think that UEFA should not alowed Milan to play in CL, because there is no meter if you cheat in one or ten games. You deserve to be in Seria B like Juventus. I can not belive that after all you are playing in CL. This is disaster for football, and once again UEFA showed that there is no same rules for everyone.

Yes there is a lot of cheating in Serbian football, but Red Star was never connected to match-fixing. Not even in press!

Ask yourself this question : Who brings the most cash in the UEFA's wallet in the group stages? Red Star or AC Milan? (in the TV audiences, publicity, gadgets, ect)

When you have the answer to that question then you will know who will qualify, one way or the other. Since that Sheva dissalowed goal vs. Barcelona and seing Barcelona favoured by referees in every match past the group stages last year and Liverpool the year before that I have lost all naivity about the CL, the winner is already known by the UEFA suits at this very moment, all the rest is stageplay and comedy.

After how this pre-season unfolded, things could really have been much worse than they currently are...after all, we are in the UCL, even though at a stage where we could be humiliated, based on the team we can field, especially in defence....

However, I think our class should see us through, and my only real concern is our overall fitness, versus theirs.

You are accurate in your statements above, but I will prefer to agree more with the latter, rather than the former portion of your post.

Every single country in the world thinks that their fans are the most fanatical. I think that supporters in every country love their team equally, so no one has a right to claim the titles of 'Most Fanatical Fans'.

What annoys me is when fans of teams, especially in Eastern Europe, think that they are the best because they are the most violent, they get arrested the most, they get in the most riots, etc. That is not how you measure one's love and support for a team, that's just dumb. What measures the support is the love for a team, supporting it through good times and bad, and waking up every morning and knowing that you have a club to support and that makes your life better. All true fans are like this, so let's put to rest this argument of 'most fanatical fans.'

This is going to be a massive game for us. Facing a big team like Red Star is definitely not going to be easy. Believe me, they wont be pushovers. We have to approach the game cautiously with the most important aspect being not to concede any goals as we are very much behind them, fitness-wise----and if required, might not be able to increase the tempo of the game to much effect. We've got to be cautious but confident. Im hoping we can score a few from deadball situations and play the next leg with a 2-0 lead....Fingers crossed.

Zz']LOLZ... very interestin' indeed... but before you start actin' like a know-it-all... you need to know the situation & facts first... however that would be rather difficult since all his posts were deleted by the mod/admin... and since my post wasn't deleted... it obviously proves one point... my post was no where near the degree of insults he made... secondly... i rather not indulge with discussions with you... thirdly... it's you who is actin' like a bonehead... lastly... do go & get an education... since apparently you are no way educated one bit... *discussion terminated*

Tou think that you are so smart don't you?But guess what-you aren't!!I dont have time for somebody like you who don't want to confess a mistake. But remember this-when somebody is acting like a jerk you shouldn'be the first joining him!I know that a guy you were talking to was an idiot but that doesn't mean that you have to laugh to his country. That is low and stupid. But you are right in one thing-this discussion IS terminated!!

About ''gate 7''!!!!
You lovely serbians (sorry for the serbian MM members :coffee: ) count only on parades, singing with the police and all that kind of stuff. :5milan: I can understand why - just that is all you can do since your players are not good enough to do it by themselves!!! You are their only hope... :delol: :haha: :ilol:
So why don't you all just go to an amusement park, ah? I'm getting bored by you...
Even the Bulgarian team are stronger than yours (last year Loko Plovdiv beat OFK Beograd, tomorrow CSKA Sofia will smash Hajduk Kula, be sure of that!!!).

Tonight SuperPippo has a birthday and he invited all the Milan fans to his birthday party at "San Siro" :djn: :bday: :3band:
I remember when Dado Prso had a game on his birthday and he scored 4 goals (Monaco - Deportivo La Coruna 8-3). Let's be modest, I'll be happy if Pippo score 3...

first , i said that i wait for milan in same group with steaua not because steaua is better than your red star , but because is my only chanse to see my favourite team [ is like : once in the life time oportunity] and my idols: kaka , maldini , gattuso & co;and second , allthough i'm not a steaua fan , with all do respect i think : yes steaua is better now then your red star: look were steaua was in last uefa cup [ u didn't make it to the groups , at least]
bottom line is : milan - red star is not that important to me , i got to see my rosso nero idols on bucharest. peace :rone:
p.s. : don't tell me your team never cheats [not even one game] , let's be serious

Yes I agree with you that Steaua made huge step last year, but we will se what will happened this season. I never said that Red Star did not cheat, but you must prove before you said that some club is guilty. In Milan case there are evidence, and they are punished with 30 points! So they cheat and like I said there is no meter if you cheat one game or 20 ! :w155:

To sto je Srbija u banani i pod mafijom pa nemoze i nece da tuzi je drugo.

I get very mad when people say something in general without cheching the real facts. Before you say that we are "cheaters", why you just read this thread http://www.milanmania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20441 and realize who is cheating??? :dumpf: So if you don't want to see the truth, just shut up and don't say anything any more! :angf:

You think Blago Georgiev is a strong player??? Hehe, for us he is just an average "Beckham" type of player, good crosses and free kicks, but nothing more... Sometimes people get angry when they see him on the pitch for the Bulgarian team... :stupid:

Odakle si izvukao da ja navijam za Sarajevo?
Znas i ti vrlo dobro da su sve balkanske lige u banani i da se u svakoj naveliko namjesta- od srbije,bosne- do hrvatske

Ok, people calm down already, enough is enough. Firstly, its out of line to insult individual posters or their origins.

Secondly, keep the discussion in English, as it is an English speaking forum.

Thirdly, don't swear.

Thank you

Actualy forget what I said about the marketing stuff and which team would bring in the most money for UEFA, that is evened out by the thorn we are in UEFA's side with the calciopoli affair, they just might want to get rid of Milan before the group stages by assigning anti-Milan referees.

So in the end, they'll have to choose between :

A) a team supported by hard working, Serbian people (who think they're tough because they know someone who have tattood the club logo on their arm with their drug needle, but would insta get frightened if they see me mad, god help them) and would be bad publicity especialy when the English come play at Marakana, I already have a smile on my face when I picture the mayhem.

and

B) a team that puts dirt on their "elite" competitions name due to the calciopoli scandal which branded said team as a club of cheaters, but on the other hand puts money in their wallets due to increased audiences, publicity and TV rights.

I bet even Johansson won't find the answer at the bottom of his daily whisky bottle, so it"ll all come down to the toss of a coin, what do we choose? heads or tails?
