The traditional MM thread of who do you think we will draw! The draw is as early as Thursday!
I personally think we might see the return of Sheva. Let's crush him!
I also think Roma will draw Real Madrid because these 2 are ALWAYS together.
Probably something like Chelsea, Celtic & Fenerbache
We won't get an easy draw, that is for sure.
That's if Fener make it, they're down 3-1 on aggregate to Dynamo Kiev :)
It's just a guess, so I said Valencia.

You`re so right, he had a good game and he scored but the whole team sucked, he for sure misses KAka and Pirlo now.

my vote gous to chelski
Was thinking of starting this thread the other day. Lazy me.
Chelsea, Valencia + Bremen I think. You just know Sheva will be back (and probably haunt us too).
Sheva in blue in San Siro amongst the Milan fans. That will be something.
And if we get Benfica too, then more memories for both!
I also want Chelsea for the same reason. I vote PSV, is in our road the last years.

Drawing Chelsea would be great.
I want ACM to be drawn with Dynamo K. and Spartak or CSCA Moscow.
I know I want too much, the odds are very low to get all 4 in the same group. I will be OK with any 3 of these together (still an unlikely event).
Somehow, I think the odds of getting 2 of these 4 in the same group are not that bad.
last CL Russia and Ukraine had 0 (nada) representation at the CL group stage, this year we have 4 teams (add Shakhtar to the 3 mentioned above).
(edited later) - Dynamo K. cannot play in a group against Spartak since they are both in the 4th basket.
However, since CSCA is in the 3rd basket their probability to get to travel to Ukraine at the gropu stage is 25% (2 out of 8 teams in the 4th).
I cannot post an English version of the raitings and the seedings of the 32 team. If someone has it (posted already) please post it here (or provide a link).
Don't khow yet who we face in the grouping only sure that it will not be Barca, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter and very likely not Valencia, Arsenal and MU. Those are the 7 teams together with us in the first post of Europe 8 best in the draw.
To be safe it is better we are in the same group with Chelsea so we don't face them early in knock-out.
1: Milan, Barcelona, Real, Inter, Manchester Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Valencia
2:Chelsea, Roma, Lyon, Bayern, Porto, PSV Eindhoven, Celtic, Lille
3:Bordaux, Werder, Sporting, Benfika, Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow, Steaua, AEK Athens
4:Hamburg, Anderlecht, Galatasaray, Spartak Moscow, Shakhtar Donieck, Dinamo Kyiv, Kobenhavn, Levski.
So, we can't get a team from the 1 basket.
From the 2nd basket we can't get Roma, while any of the other 7 teams is possibile opponent.
We can get anyone from the last 2 baskets.
imo, the hardest group for us would be :
Milan
Chelsea
Benfika
Hamburg
while the easiest
Milan
Celtic
AEK Athens
Levski

Here's my guess:
Milan
PSV (always with us wherever we go, lets see if it is truly meant to be for Alex to be playing at the San Siro every season :P)
Sporting Lisbon
Spartak Moskow
I think Real will get Roma, Olympiakos cause they're always paired together.
Oh boy, who would hope for a Barca, Chelsea, Benfica, Hamburg group? Damn I just saw Lyon are seeded #2!! UEFA really need to change their rules.. I cannot also believe how Barca is ranked 2..for the last few seasons they have reached no where in UCL and only passed QF last year where they won it and now they're 2nd place! Chelsea have been good in the last 3 years while Man U have been absolutely terrible and didnt even make it past group stages last year and are Seed #1!! Arsenal who only made the final last year, and have been under performing in CL for the last fwe years are seed #1 !! And omg Liverpool WHAT THE HELL IS LIVERPOOL doing in seed #1!!! Valencia? I think they only played in 3 of the last 5 CL's!!
Isn't the seeding based on the last 5 years? Milan should be rank #1 BY FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!

I thought we were at #2 spot because #1 is reserved for the title holders?
If we get Porto, Anderlecht, Bremen, it will be like 93/94 where Milan won in the championship in Athens (where the final will be held this year). :clap:

No. It has nothing to do with that. It is based strictly on points gained over the last 5 seasons.
Nr 1 it is for the title holders
In ranking points we are NR 1
If it makes you feel better, Milan is number 1 in UEFA ranking based on coefficients
For the purposes the draw, title holders are at the top.

agree with arcy.
Putting Barca on top of pot 1is purely because they are the current champs and is not related to their standing in the table with coefficients.
This pot-placement is not related with Milan being punished for calciopoli as it hardly makes any sense UEFA to put us 2nd instead of 1st ... if we were being punished for it, we would be in pot 4 with the weakest of the teams.
In fact, if UEFA had any legal grounds to punish us, wewould have never been allowed in the competition to begin with, something they made very clear in an official statement. Basically the only reason why we are in the CL this year is not because UEFAbelieve we are innocent and we deserve to be in it, but because UEFA's current regulations have not foreseen, and are thus inapplicable, for this sort of situation.

between groups 3 and 4 steaua could be in the first 3 teams anytime , but i agree with you , it could be easier with them , cause romanian teams never played well against italian teams .
well i want chelsea so we can teach sheva and the blues a lesson that if we bought some big names before the transfer window closes.

If that was the case, it would mean that Milan would be taking teams lightly and that spells disaster. Whether we have a tough group or not we will eventually meet up with the better sides so the transfer market should have nothing to do with the draw.
By the way what time is the draw (in EST)
Damn I just saw Lyon are seeded #2!! UEFA really need to change their rules.. I cannot also believe how Barca is ranked 2..for the last few seasons they have reached no where in UCL and only passed QF last year where they won it and now they're 2nd place!
This is how it goes :
Every win in qualification matches, no matter if it's CL or UEFA Cup, gets you 1 point, while every draw gets you 0.50 points.
In UEFA and CL group stages every win gets you 2 points, while every draw 1 point.
Only being in CL group stages brings you 3 points, while everytime you eliminate a club in 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 finals or final, you get extra 1 point (win also brings 2 points and draw 1 points in late knock out stages).
Every team also gets some points based on their country coefficient.
Points from last 5 years are counted, and you get final standings.
So, one team may play in UEFA Cup only in last 5 years, and still be Nr.1 in UEFA club standings. That's why Steaua has so many points, because last year they got more points than every other team but Barcelona.
Next year, we may still be on top, because points from season 2001/02 won't be counted anymore, and in that season Milan played in UEFA Cup, where we got 23 points.
We need to have great CL season to get 23 points back and keep the top.
This is complete list, with last 5 seasons and points per season :

Milan IS number 1. And you are absolutely positively right - the raitings are messed up BIG TIME.
Here are the raitings (yes based on last 5 years in the CL)
ACM ~129;
Barca~127;
Real~120;
Inter~112;
Liver~106;
Arse~102;
MU~101;
Valencia~95;
Lyon~90;
Porto~88;
PSV~82;
Bavaria~81;
Chelsea~80 etc...
Weird, huh??? Arcenal and MU higher than Lyon and Chelsea, PSV and Bayern.

The trouble with these raitings is in the following rule:
"Every team also gets some points based on their country coefficient."
Apparently, England's coefficient is out of wack with respect to the others, making
this whole system subjective (who defines the coefficients can redefine the raitings).

lets not take anyone to lightly but I'd be lying if I said the draw wasn't even better than I'd hoped for. to my mind we should win every game, the only problem is if we slip up, all the other teams will probably trade blows making it a tight group.

yeah thats a nightmare draw for Sofia, i imagine their manager was watching that last part of the draw whispering to himself "please not A, please not A, please not A, please not.. DOH!" :D
At least their fans get treated to some of the best players in Europe.
We finally have a group like Brasil always does during the World Cup. Now we need a forward, Ronaldo will do.
I agree with meazza, although we should qualify lets not think we've already won the competition. It is however one in the eye for Uefa ... i'd love to see Galliani with his broadest cheesy grin on his face as he shakes Johansson's hand telling him how good it is to be in the CL ... :rotfl:
anderlech might be easier, actually, but won't refuse Levski either ... at least that way fans back home would see some world class football with Milan :hug:
Are you a Levski or CSKA fan? Most of my Bulgarian friends are CSKA fans, so I guess I like CSKA Sofia too :D

Good point. They might as well play some of the best teams, because they would probably not qualify from any of the groups anyway...
maybe this is a good omen for us, we play AEK Athens, and the final is in Athens.
Forza Milan
Finally, something positive....
But with this easy group, maybe the Milan management will deem there is no need for new signings...
Hope that now Gillardino can break his CL duck!
Easiest group in a long time, up to the players and especially Ancelotti not to take these lightly.
The group stage is easy, Milan can have an easy training in this group if they will not underestimate these teams. As far as AEK Athens, i will give you too much information about AEK fu..ing Athens. For Tzzm or like that who insulted me saying that i support a lot of teams in europe, i wish pride Milan to burn aand destroy fu..ing AEK.

A walk in the park, so to speak but I hope the players take it very seriously. I'd hate to blow it with a too casual approach (not that I think we will). Love that Chelsea will do battle with Barca. As pointed out, with this easy group we will gain some nice funds, always helpful.

Hmm. I have just checked the regulations, and I was wrong, when I wrote that we were going to play the runner-up from Group G.
Article 4, Paragraph 4.07:
a. Clubs from the same association must not be drawn against each other.
b. The winners and runners-up of the same group must not be drawn against each other.
c. The group winners must not be drawn against each other.
d. The runners-up must not be drawn against each other.
e. The runners-up must play the first leg at home.

I know this is the case especially for the russian teams and Shakhtor with their Rinat aka Roman of the Ukraine :) ... not sure about Dynamo though. As far as I know they have a brazilian centerback and forward - don't quote me on this ;) - but the vast majority of the players are ukrainians.
I just wish Inter were meeting Spartak in a slightly better form though, cause for the past several years, SPartak hasn't been the team that won what - the first 8 champinsips of Russia in a row. Still, they seem to be coming back to their good old days as now they are also in the CL.
That argentinian guy, Cavenaghi, does he still play for them? I remeber them getting also Mozart, theBrazilian mid who used to play for Breschia, right? The ukrainian Kalyninchenko (sp?) had a pretty good WC. Not sure about Egor Titov though cause he got banned for dopping for 2 years I think ... he was Spartak's most influential player, I think.
They are a good team, not at their very best in terms of what Spartak M was 5-6 years ago but still will create lots of problems, especially to the bunch of primadonnas Inter are.

Dynamo played in Turkey with 4 unkrainians underlined:
Shovkovsky, Markovic, Sablic, Rodrigo, Kaddouri, Yussuf, Correa, Rotan (Verpakovskis 80'), Husiev (Gavrancic 64'), Rebrov, Shatskikh (Belkevich 89'). They also have several brazilians and other internationals on the bench. Shatskih plays for Uzbekistan, Verpakovskis for Latvia. Correa is a new and good Brazilian addition, rumors are that since he is under 21 he can be naturalized to be able to play for the Ukr. NT.
Spartak is better this year. Kavenaghi played 87 min in the last qualifier on Wednesday. Mozart played too on the pitch not on a piano :-).
Titov is back and is available, was pulled into the Russia's NT by Hiddink (spell?).
CSCA is in great shape too. I think CSCA and Shakhtar have good chances to advance, just by looking at their group and performance. Dynamo had a superb start of the season performance-wise and should be able to punch Real again just like last time in 99.
Speaking of internationals, have you seen a roster of the NT of Georgia, Italy and Ukraine's opp-t in the Euro-08 qualifying group? They have had 0 (zero)
players who play in Georgia, that is the NT is comprised 100% of internationals.
Tomorrow night Milanistas i will present you our first opponent, AEK fu..ing Athens, today unfortunately i had a lot of work to do and now is 3:14 in the morning.
I merged several CL threads and made them into this one: General Discussion of Milan in the CL.

wow, Dynamo have deffinitely changed their philosophy from the Lobanovsky days of the club ... knew that they sort of followed in Shakhtor's steps but had no idea that 2/3 of their starting 11 are foreigners.
As for Georgia NT, I guess this should be expected ... something very similar happened to Bulgarian NT a little before and after WC '94 ... this is good for the whole team as players gain international experience and can only get better by playing with Europe's top footballers on a regular basis. Easy matches for our team. Yes!!!, I'm gonna see Milan on Athens Olympic Stadium. I was waiting for this time for so long time. (On 1994/1995 CL period I was too small to go to see Milan :P). Giorgos, Athens is a wonderful place to live and much richer from Thessaloniki.
Easy but not so easy; giveh that Milan is (potentially) not as poweful as last year, we'll have to reconsider our position.

I'm always afraid of our games against the so-called weaker teams. In Serie A, we usually loose points against weaker teams instead of those so-called strong teams. Got me worry a bit though.
On second thought, the group stage will be a good experience for Gila to actually score. Come on mate, if you can't score against Lilie, then, I'm not sure if I could give you more chances. Go for it!

I agree. We must respect our opponent no matter who it is but at the end of the day, we do have the easiest group of all. It would be embarassing for us not to advance to the 16. As for Gila, he must score. Inzaghi is our only scoring reliability at the moment, so our squad is weaker compared to last year.

I know that Milan dont play well against easy teams and tend to lose points against these smaller teams, but really our CL group is not only easy, but it is TOOOOO easy, I think if we play with our B team we can qualify with no problem.
No offense to the other squads, and on any given day yadda yadda yadda, but it certainly is the easiest group of all. If Milan can't get out of this one, they ought not even be in the CL.

Dnipro (formerly known as Dnepr) is the all ukrainian team left in UPL (ukr. Pr. league). Unfortunately they lost to Marselle Olymp. in the Intertoto Cup (0-0 and 2-2 at home). Dnipro with their good school and selection supplies (sells) players for DK and the NT.

:5130: didnt draw any of them lolzzzzzzzz
Ok, here we are as i promised AEK Athens. It advanced in the group stage after two wins against Hearts in Scotland 2-1 and in Athens 3-0 ( In the first Hearts played from 67' with 10 players and AEK score on 89', 90', in the second, Hearts had 10 players in 30' and 9 in 60' and AEK scored in 67' after a fake penalty).
The previous year its coach was Fernado Santos who was playing 4-3-3, Its new coach from June is Sera Ferrer who plays 4-4-2. Lakis, a good RM, winger who can create space by runing and crossing not good in finishing, Chatemai, a Finlanf md not something very good as well as Hungarian MD, Tozer. Alexopoulos a strong and tall Greek CB and Udeze a very good Nigerian CB, ex of my team PAOK Thessaloniki but he hasnt adapted to his new team yet because he went there 2,5 weeks ago, so he doent play. We played with AEK in group stage of CL, in the first game in Cagliari (because Milan was banned) Milan scored first but Milan finally won with two headings from young at that time Panucci. In Athens AEK was much better, they lost chances, i think two woodworks but the final score was 0-0. The game was in Philadelfia the psysical ground of AEK a tough stadium, but the last 3 years they broke it down to create a new but it didnt happen so AEK plays in Marousi, in OAKA, in the national stadium, which is huge, not a "ground". There will take place the final of CL. The last time Milan played there was in 1994 in the final of CL Milan-Barca 4-0. So Milan will paly there with the hope to return there for the final and the stadium is maybe lucky after 4-0 winning against Barca in 1994.
My opinion is that we must press AEK in San Siro in order their defence to make the mistake and to score. In Athens the stadium will be crowded, Milan should look its defence and we need our midfielders to pass good to broke AEK's defence.
GK: Sorentino from Italy but he had a car crashed and he will be out for 1 month so he will not play in San Siro. His substitude, Chiotis a good Greek goalkeeper around 28 who started as a rare talent but stayed state.
RB: Paoultaso, an Argentinian attacking back, he has played only 2 official games, is good, but not too good.
LB: Georgeas, a player who doesn't have talent but plays with passion without being "violent", unlike Rino sometimes.
CB: Dellas, ex-Roma CB, he was one of the best in Greek defence in Euro 2004, then he had an injury in Roma, he returned last year in AEK, he didnt play a lot, he now tries to improove his shape but he isnt as he was, he is 30 years old.
CB: Cirillo, you know him.
RM: Lagos in the most talented Greek player below 23 years, he went in AEK at June, in his first game he was very good but in the last two dissapointed, one reason for this is because he is left footed and Ferer put him in the right.
LM: Cejar, a typical Brazilian, good dribbling, good winger but not excellent, Sergihno will have work to do.
DM: Emerson, the ex player of Deportivo la Corunia, he is good but in big games after 65' he may be tired.
AM: Ivic, an unprooved talent, not bad but one reason for playing is because his brother Ilia Ivic who played in Torino is the general manager of AEK.
FW: Lyberopoulos: A scorer, in the whole game he may dont even touch the ball, but suddenly he can score, one of the best Greek attackers the last 10 years.
SC: Kapetanos, a n talent (23) attacker good both in head and with the ball, but he has still to be improoved a lot.
Other players: Maduka: Brazilian AM from Benfica not sthing to worry much about him, Zikos, ex-Monako's DM is still injured, Delibasic the ex-striker of Mallorca, Moras a strong central defender, Tziortziopoulos, an unprooved LB, Kiraikidis, an talented dm who is not playing. Kabadais, an 24 yeared old SC not something good.
Any questions?
Giorgios, thanks for the detailed description of each player!
and yes, one question, what is Lagos favorite color? :devf:
I guess the CL favourable CL draw has changed Milan buying plan up side down. Now considering the group stage not so tough Milan can use that to develop young players, why buy expensive Ronaldo ? I am expecting 2-3 young players coming to Milan soon.
At the same time it looks like Real Madrid is talking nonesense to us, 25m for Ronaldo? Kaka for Ronaldo ? those are considered indecent proposals, Galliani has blown saliva and walked away from the negotiation table. It is confirmed today by Berlusconi that that door is closed.

I myself don't like Ronaldo much , what Milan needs now is a player to replace Sheva ,who can play like a self-starter , but not a player like Ronaldo.
I want Torres and Tevez , they are younger and they have more ambitions than Ronaldo :D
we nned to win this one in 4 matcher, with 12 points, so we dont have tp play 6 times with full squad. This is very important.
If we play our nrmal game in the group stage we'll have no problems with these teams. But we will need an extra dimension for the later stages. One we don't have at the moment, except in the unknown of Foggia & Gourcuff.

i would like to see that so that our young players who just joined have a chance to play and show what they can do.
I saw the topgame in Belgium yesterday evening between rivals Anderlecht and Club Bruges. And i must say, if Anderlecht plays like this in CL, it must be easy for Milan. Anderlecht didn't play well, although it won 1-0.
They sold their 3 best players (Kompany, Wilhelmson and Tihinen) although they bought a lot of individual young technical talent with Bousouffa, Hassan, Tchité and Biglia.
But normally that shouldn't be a problem for Milan. But, Milan had a lot of difficulties against Belgian teams in the past. Remember Milan - Club Bruges 0-1 ... So we don't wanna underestimate them for sure.

True , but have you seen second half of Real Madrid - Anderlecht?
That was pretty good , imo.
On paper we are better than Lille , AEK and Anderlecht.
But as said , we can't underestimate them.
Lille is a good team , they played rather well last year.
Lille could give us a hard time , they have nothing to lose.
AEK Athens , I don't really know them , can't judge them.
Anderlecht , they really have potential.
Our defence will have to be alert for Bousouffa and Tchité.
As said , they really have some good players like : Bousouffa , Biglia , Hassan , ...
They're only problem is the defence.
They usually suffer at RB , so if we play with Serginho we will probably give them a hard time.
Unless they buy a good RB before the transfer period is over , wich is possible.
