is he just copying Totti or is there any other reasons?
Makes it easier for everyone else now then!

Nesta retirement is music to the ears to me. He now have less matches to play and sole concentration to Milan. Hope he will be the player that we once bought and injury free.
You are still the best defender around!
Great, hopefully this will mean a fitter and fresher Nesta. Its not like Italy are going to do anything with the current manager anyway.

I totally agree. With Maldini being out for months, we need a strong leader
at the back. Also Milan are going to need 100% of Nesta this season to achieve Lo Scudetto... :5ok:

Sad for Italy but fantastic for Milan. It will hopefully have a similar effect on his career to what it had on Maldini's.
Agree Dev, and Nesta has a chronical muscular problem on his leg, not to mention shoulder surgery last season... he's not exactly "injury prone" just that he has some problems that make him a little "delicate"... now at 31, better to concentrate on Milan and let his body rest...
I've always supported players who left their NT due tiredness and i'm also supporting the decision Nesta and Totti made.
I see absolutely no other reason for Nesta leaving his NT , now when they are WC's and when he hardly featured in the WC victory. If he didn't have injury problems he would have never left the team. On the opposite , he would have wanted to prove that he is actually the one who should be in starting XI, not Materazzi.
Like i said, i don't blame him and how could i blame him when i look at how many matches he is forced to play during the year.
38 matches in serie A , 8-13 matches in Europe ( if his team isn't playing qualification matches in August) and at least 5 matches in Coppa Italia.
Every NT plays minimum 7 matches during the year, and that's only in case it's a year without a big tournament like WC or EURO.
More or less it makes 60 matches in 9 months. That's 60 matches in 275 days or 1 match in 4.5 days. If you add a WC or an EURO then i'll let you count how many matches he's playing and how much time for rest he's given.
Ok, some of you will say that Inzaghi, Cannavaro, Materazzi or Del Piero are even older than Totti and Nesta and they still play for the NT.
You must have in mind that one may be more patriotic than his neighbour and less patriotic than his other neighbour. Some people love their country so much that are ready to risk their career for the country. If you want to judge Totti or Nesta as not patriotic enough, you may do that, but they've been patriotic enough to play for the country until their 31 and there must be another reason ( the injuries) that they made such delicate decision.
The problem lies with the schedules. 60 matches per year is way too much. In the not so distant past, top clubs were playing 40-45 matches and players almost never said " i retire from the NT but i'll play for my team" like it's the case now with many star players. FIFA should think about this because if they continue like this, the best world players won't play at the World Cup 2014 and i'd like to see who's gonna watch that tournament.
Instead of making it easier, they make the schedule even harder. They make the leagues bigger they make the NT's play more matches in the qualifiers ( Portugal has to play 14 matches only in the group stage to qualify for the EURO). They did make the CL with 13 matches maximum instead of the previous 17 matches, like it was in 2003, but even 13 is too much.
That's why many teams give up from Coppa in early stages and many teams give up from the league in order to concentrate on CL only. With 60 matches per season they are forced to do so. If FIFA makes it 40-45 matches in one season then i'm sure every team and every player will give 100% in the domestic cup, domestic league, champions league and for the NT !

yes good for the club and the fans, but wht about Italian football fans like me, I feel realy sad when Italy lose any match and without both Totti and Nesta Italy will lose alot.
but any way this may be a good chance for players like Barzagli to proof him self as an Italian international
i want nesta with azzurri
