View Full Version : Milan Mania is changing servers--please read
Hopefully you've all read Rezag's announcement that he posted a couple days ago. He is planning to start the move today; if that changes he'll let us know.
PLEASE BE AWARE.....the actual move could take up to 24 hours or longer. All Rez can tell us is that from past experience it does take a while with a forum of this size. After that, it make take a while for YOUR ISP to detect the change. It's called DNS propagation and it is the amount of time it takes your internet provider to 'see' the site in its new place. THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT SOMETHING HAPPENING AT YOUR END OF THINGS. You need to be patient about this.
The move is to a much less expensive server, and it is a move to keep the site open and online. Economics are forcing this move, so we will have to accept the new server's performance and just deal with it. Rez had put alot of time into selecting one he feels will suit our needs.
No problem Debs. You and Rezaq have been doing great job marvelous. Big thanx for both of you :5ok:

I agree, the work being done here on these forums are amazing, I think this has got to be 1 of the hottest forums on the web!
Thanks for the accolades, but I really haven't done much but encourage Rez--he's our tech guy and does all the dirty work when it comes to miving the forums and stuff. Seems like this server is good, maybe even faster than the old one. I'm impressed so far with our switch!

Will something like this happen again when the new website design is completed for Milan Mania?

I appreciate all the good work that happens behind the scenes. The dedication of the people is exemplary.
However, the new server is NOT faster.

I have found it to be as fast or just as fast, but maybe people are finding it varies for them. No matter, we had to make this switch, we've already explained that. Since only a few people are helping to pay to keep this site online, we had to find the less expensive server to move to.

Yes, I'm aware that there are a few generous souls who are keeping this site up and running.
I just found it to be quite a bit slower. Of course, it is not painfully slow by any means.
With the new set up (ie not using a dedicated server anymore) a performance hit is possible, maybe even expected. However, if you or anybody notice errors or extremely slow load times please let me know the time it happened and I'll check the server logs to see if there is something going on.

Milanmania is nearly unusable right now.

Thanx, I'll check the log files and processes to see whats going on.

Thanks. :)
I have found high loads on the server, doesn't look too bad at first look but I'll try to find out why.
Here's a sample of server info
15:40:10 up 38 days, 22:47, 0 users, load average: 2.58, 1.28, 1.06
15:50:07 up 38 days, 22:57, 0 users, load average: 1.81, 1.99, 1.61
mysql 24400 0.4 15.8 144628 52068 ? Sl Nov21 217:11 \_ /usr/libexe c/mysqld --defaults-file=/etc/my.cnf --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --u ser=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid -- skip-locking --socket=/var/lib
The 2.58 and 15.8 are on the high side.
Reza, English please :kap:
or we will have another thread for Computer Lingo Speaking Members :str:

It seems like everythings back on track Friday, decmber 28 at 5:07pm
:D
The first two lines I posted show load averages for the last one, five, and fifteen minutes.
For a single processor working a value higher than one means a large load but it doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem or something is wrong, thats why have to look at others thing, one of those is to see what process is causing the high load, I looked further and I noticed mysql (the database) is at 15.8% memory usage but the cpu is 0.4%. Doesn't tell me too much but I have an idea of what is happening. With those kind of data and digging more I will hope to find if there is anything I can do to lessen the load on mysql for example.
sorry, when I open milanmania, almost all the images doesn't show properly. is it because of the new server ? or is it only me who happend to gets the problem ?
anyway, thanks to the founders and the admins for this great forum :)
Is it only when you posted this or does it happen more often? Some slower performance is possible but I didn't see it this morning (my morning, around the time of your post)
Thanx for the nice comments :)
I am seeing some high loads on and off in the past couple of hours, most likely cause is congestion or high traffic impacting the network and server MM is on. I'll continue checking.
I had one slowdown this morning, probably around 8:30-9:00 when I was trying to delete a topic.....other than that, no problems! :u56:

no, ,... it's always happen recently. the banner, the "go back" image, the "reload this page" image, and all common images, they don't show up, although the users avatar are just fine. I thought i was having a problem with my ISP, but the image problem is still there when I change my ISP to the new one.
anyway, from your answer, seemed like u don't have that kind of problem ? so mebbe it's just me... not a really big problem tho,... i still can read the contents :)
thanx
rezag, i think i know the problem comes from, please check your pm.
