IN 94 world cup in America, i was 10 yo but i remember a lot of it.
All people in Egypt say that it was the best world cup.

America was with switzerland , Romania, Colombia( its player was killed because og in match with USA).
Brasil, Cameroun, Swede, Russia(Russia 6- 1 Cameroun).
Brasil and Swede 0-0 in group and 1-0 in semi final
Saudi arabia, Holland(in 98 it was written Pays-Bas), Bilgiqe, and Morroco
Italy , Irland , Norway, Mexico ( Irland 1- 0 Iitaly).
Argentina, Nigeria, Bulgary, Greece( zero in all values)
Germany, Bolivia, Espine , Korea
As they was 24 teams, 4 groups provided 16th stage with 3 teams.
Italy which reached final was best third in its group. Maradona was stopped in the third match in group and Argentina did not gain this match and did not win in 16th stage vs Romania( The best match in all world cups in point of view of Egyptians)
Germany was beaten by Bulgary by goal of bald player of Bulagary.
America played with Brasil (0-1) in the day of independence of America, i remembered that Lionardo from brasil took red cart after hitting american player. Bebeto scored the goal of match( one-two with Romario)

Note: The third or fourth in world cup can not reach the next.
In90, England was 3rd, did not reach 94.
In94, Swede was the third after beating Bulgary, Swede did not reach 98.
In98, Holland was fourth beaten by Croatia, Holland did not reach 2002.
In 2002 Turkey was the third beating Korea, Turkey did not reach 2006.

but on topic yes I do recall that world cup very vivedly I was 11 at that time. And I liked it aswel as real childhood memory's... I remember for example we even played Baggio penalty on the play ground, celebrated like bebeto and keshi etc
As I won't ever forget the preWC tears of Marco van Basten...

The Netherlands aka Les Pays-Bas are the same it depends what your source is the first is the English translation the second the French translation for Nederland. The name Holland is actually incorrect as it's only one province but during the early modern age they sailed the world and their country was named for the people who had most influence and were found all over the world.
note if someone is talking of the Low Countries in English or Les Pay-Bas in French it could also mean Nederland and the northern part of Belgium called Flanders.
During that WC Belgium defeated Holland/Nederland/... in the for our country's classic derby of the low countries.

For me the funniest part of the WC was Al Gore handing the trophy to Dunga. The Brazilian players had no idea who Gore was, and Gore had no idea who the players were. While handing the trophy Gore said in a disgusted tone, "This one's for you". Who says that while handing a WC trophy?

BTW, my dad (a true vintage tifoso in the Midwest) said that it was one of the worst televised events in US. On some occasions, TV channels were showing soap operas instead of live matches.

Everytime there is a discussion about the 94 worldcup, the first thing came up into my mind was that goal scored by a saudi arabian player (can't remember the names) against belgium which is very similar with Maradona against England.

Edited: I remember the name, it was Saeed al Owairan.

I was 10 years old back then and my memory of that tournament is filled by this names: ROMARIO & BEBETO!!!

Also I remember Ireland goal vs Italy, amgical Baggio and Kouman's free kick against Brazil...and of course tragical Robby and Franco in penalties... :(

Also, Stoickov and LArsson were brilliant!

I was only 9 in 1994 and I followed all the games but the final as I waas to tired and slept during it which was very stupid.
I remmeber also that my 2 favorite teams reached the final the final and that I picked Brasil over Italy in the final ( now my choise is diffrenet of course ) and despite the fact that I was supporting Brasil I was sooooooo sad the Baggio who was my favorite player in the begining of the tournement missed the desicive penalty, I also remmber that I was threaled by Bebetowho become my one of my all time favorite players after the WC.
Did I miss some thing? hmmm Yes, the Bulgerian team was great.

The first football competition I watched or tried to watch (difficult to follow US events live when you're in France). I was 8 ...

I don't remember a lot of things ... except Bebeto doing like if he had a baby in his hands when he scored (I was pretty stupid, I thought he was doing that because of his name lol, "baby" in French is "bébé" ...). I remember also the last penalty from Roberto Baggio in the final, it was dramatic for my father and my grand-father. Anyway, I don't know if I remember this penalty from the day they showed it or because of the several times I saw it on TV since '94.

Bebeto and Romario's corn routine is taken from a Brazilian tradition. When they move their hands horizontically it symbolises a harvest. A good one.

And isn't a Romario Bebeto beauty a good harvest? ;)

All I remember from WC94 is that Diego Maradona was treated unfairly. Had he remained in that WC, there was no chance for Romario & Baggio to shine. Diego was going for his 2nd WC & he was robbed.

Romario and Baggio were such big talents and footballing marvel points engraved in mercyless perfection that saying Maradona would eliminate the vision and enjoyment of such star players is simply dead wrong.

Moreover I've never seen anything like Maradona on a pitch. But for example you will find many Baggio lovers who will say Baggio was bigger. Same for Romario.

Funny really, 1938, 1994 and 1998 we've been beaten by Italy every time :)
