I just saw 'In Bruges'. In Bruges is a very good crime/comedy movie. Watch out for Ralph Fiennes. He is just too good. Our British milanistas should love this movie. I have to admit that I am not that much of a Colin Farrell fan but in this movie he showed his talents.
I also saw 'Lust, Caution'. It is a Chinese movie about the youth resurgence against a traitor; set in WW2 era. I am 23 y.o and I have to admit that this movie is very very moving. I am still trying to cope with the emotional trauma of watching this movie. It is still a masterpiece though but be prepared for the emotional roller coaster. Giovanni: I love mafia films, but my knowledge is limited to the Corleone family and Goodfellas. I have seen many other mafia movies too but these two were the best I have seen in English. I would love to see the movie you mentioned but I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD. |

For the movie, you will need a few months to go out with english subtitles. It's all acted in napoletanean dialect.
You can already purchase the book in english: Roberto Saviano, Gomorrah. It's no fiction. This stuff is no Sopranos. It's all 100% real. It's a bestseller in Italy and in Europe. The chapter "Secondigliano war" is worthy the price of the book itself. I highly recommend it.

In UK it will be out in theaters on 24th of October 2008. Don't know about US, which is a market of its own. This is the new "City of God", the italian and international press can't do anything but praise this movie, which won the Special Prize at Cannes Festival. I just wait it to come out on DVD to add it to my collection (and i buy just very selected movies).

I saw The Dark Knight last night and it was incredible. A fantastic film that's deep without compromising the action. It's superbly well made and realised and Christopher Nolan has created a believable world.
Finally, the acting is superb, and none moreso than Heath Ledger, who when originally was announced for the role I was more than a little hesitant. I take my doubts back now, as not only is he the greatest joker ever, he's the greatest villain in a film of this type I can remember. Comical, but an exceptionally creepy character, Ledger has played the joker perfectly. It's a shame he's not with us now. The film itself is extremely faithful to the graphic novels and really I can't wait for this on blu ray. |

I saw Henry V (1989 Kenneth Brannagh version) on tv on Saturday and i must say it was fantastic. Maybe it means more to me because i'm an Englishman and it involves one of English history's best warrior kings and the powerful words of Shakespeare, but it was inspiring stuff.
Likewise is the tv series Band of Brothers. I know it's not a film, but i forgot just how incredible this series is, both in a visual and realistic sense.

Not sure how many of you follow the Chinese film industry, but I personally am looking for what looks to be a huge film coming out this December named Ip Man, which is based on the life of Grandmaster Yip (Ip) Man.
Those who have read my posts before know I do Wing Chun Gung Fu, which Grandmaster Yip Man was a legend in. He's famous for being Bruce Lee's teacher, but also lead an interesting life during hard times in China. He's also the teacher of his sons, Ip Chun and Ip Ching, who taught my master Samuel Kwok, so many of you can imagine my personal interest is quite high in this film. I also found out one of my peers in my Wing Chun classes was an advisor to the martial arts in this film, which is pretty cool. A trailer: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AHhXi87rT0M |

A couple of nights, ago I watched The Net 2
It was better than The Net (story+characters) and the lead girl was much more beautiful than Sandra Bullack. And guess what it was in Istanbul

'Challenging" with Angeline Jolie and
"7 pounds" with Will Smith......both movies are simply amazing, u have too see them....with oscar wining performances from both actors. You would expect such a thing from Will Smith, but I have to say I was stunned how Angelina played her role.

If anybody likes screwball comedies of the 30s and 40s, I would recommend Holiday starring Cathy Hepburn and Cary Grant.. It's not as famous as the others of this genre though i've never been able to understand why.
