I think DTG used too much CG, losing one of the great things (the fact it's actually done by actors/stuntmen) about HK Kung Fu cinema. Plus, it shows that the only real martial artist of the current crop of HK stars is Donnie (I'm not a fan of the young guys, they act like popstars)

I think Stephen Chow is also pretty good, though his films usually contain more humour, e.g. Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. Hopefully Kung Fu Hustle will be equally as good/funny, if not more so.

Stephen Chow is fantastic, absoloutely hilarious. I thought Kung Fu Hustle was amazing, but tbh Shaolin Soccer for me was even better (the only film that made me laugh so much I was crying and in pain lol).

However, Stephen Chow isn't really a martial artist (actually, I believe he's only done a few days worth of Wing Chun, otherwise he imitates Bruce Lee who's his idol). That's the thing with HK films, the industry isn't doing badly, but martial arts isn't the main attraction now. Films like Infernal Affairs, PTU and Exiled, as well as Chow's brand of comedy are now the more accomplished films. Last good HK action flick imo was New Police Story (pretty much old school Jackie Chan style).

I'll have to watch Shaolin Soccer again, i haven't seen it for many years and the time i did see it i wasn't really watching it properly.

I liked Seven Swords, When the Last Sword is Drawn, Zatoichi, Azumi and Twilight Samurai along with the usual Crouching Tiger, Fearless, Hero, House of the Flying Daggers. But i think my favourite is Warriors of Heaven & Earth, it's just a fantastic film.

With that i'm going to see how much these films are on Amazon

Transformers - Ace (even though Micheal Bay's directing flaws spoil it in places)
Bourne Ultimatium - Ace ... Bourne is one bad mofo in this film!
Knocked Up - Ace ... laugh out loud funny in alot of places ... the Seth Rogen, Judd Apatow combo strikes again and regular side-kick Paul Rudd is ace too ...

Snow Job. What an incredible movie. This has got to be one of the top three movies I've ever seen.

Nope, but i'm a big fan of the Alien serie. Don't know these last installments, but i think it's pretty difficult they can match the brilliance of the first two Alien and Aliens (even though IMO the third one is underated )

*********************************************

Yesterday i was in mood to buy DVD's and bought almost the half of Argento's filmography (at least until the middle 80's where he still got some flair) and a couple of other movies:

- The bird with the crystal plumage
- The cat o' nine tails
- Suspiria
- Inferno
- Tenebrae
- Phenomena

*I'm pretty satisfied with those movies, even though it's not a filmmaker for everyone and every tastes. His movies are strange, particular, full of flaws, with weak plots and poor acting. Despite that, Argento has great style and use of images. His movies are more like nightmares or dreams: you can't explain nightmares, they don't have a plot. They don't have coherence, and can't be measured with reason only. They are a sum of weird set pieces and vivid colourful images (including visionary killing and frightening sets) people hadly forgets.
