House, Techno and Drum n Bass

right then!!

seeing as theres a few members on here into this kind of music lets start a thread where we can talk about it, wheres the best parties, the best downloads, upcoming tracks etc....

i personally am into all types of house, techno and drum n bass.

artists include..MAW, carl cox, derrick carter, Mr C, darren emerson, jeff mills, ltj bukem, fat boy slim, sneak etc.... (basically good party music)

ive been to ibiza for a couple of seasons, festivals up and down the Uk, most big club nights in the Uk and i have a "fine" collection of mp3s.

best dj set ive seen was at space on the terrace in 2000. it was basement jaxx. they were awesome and then on the inside afterwards it was leftfield with paul daley...simply MAGIC!!!

lol the only artist i know of that list is Fatboyslim! im seeing Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers at V festival this year which should be great!

im not so much into the techno, and trance stuff. Im mainly into Funky and French house bands like:-Db boulevard, Roger Sanchez, Reflekt, modjo, Superman lovers, lil love, Gorillaz, daft punk, united nations.

at the moe i think these tracks are some of the best houses themes out. Plus there music videos are lets say fun lol

lil love- little love
united nations- you and me
Thomas Falke - High again.
Max Graham v.s. yes- owner of a lonely heart
Roger Sanchez- another Chance (classic brilliant house song)

well matnat, you found your soulmate here lol. I am a huge trance, house and prog house fan. I like some IDM too like boards of Canada (but most IDM is crap). I am not a fan of dnb. i love the ASOT radio show by armin van buuren, and off late there have been some great trance singles out therel from Rachel Starr, Mathew Dekay, Niklas Harding, way out west, and Gabriel & Dresden have really exploded in their niche.

let me know if you wanna talk trance

not too much into basement jaxx kinda music cus it's very close to rnb/hiphop, which i am not a big fan of.

right now, i am all over deep dish (their new album is just awesome) and live sets by gabriel/dresden, armin van buuren, niklas harding, dave seaman, nick warren...those are my flavours of the month. and i am proud to say Max Graham is from Ottawa

oh and don't forget the one and only, MARKUS SCHULZ.

well a few people have posted and for a moment i thought i`d be on my own..LOL!!

to mk18....get with the times OR are you showing our age with your love for rock music?

greame c.....i`m into alot of funky house (im surprised you havent heard of MAW?), i like db boulevard..but they tend to be more mainstream dance right? do you like bob sinclair etc...? or what about the french house label "distance"? i listen to daft punk fav track being voyager...i`m into french house so talk more graeme so i can understand exactly where your coming from. the prodigy should be awesome, ive never seen then live although i did buy there first album weather experience and one of my favourite tracks of all time was "charlie" by them.

nadir..like AC Milan you`ve chose well!!! i know the scene canada is still growing and have heard that drum and bass is really big over there, i do have an excellent fabric cd by a dj u might know called Tyler Stadius. i like his sound alot.
Trance was really big in the UK a few years back..i use to listen to alot of stuff by paul okanefold, my favourite trance track has to be william orbits "Barbers adajio for strings". i do have some sets by way out west and deep dish. i got alot of house music, you probably have heard of "sasha and digweed"? i got alot of stuff by them.as fro the jaxx there sound keeps changing and i`m not into the sound there playing now, however you should listen to some of there dj sets there miles better. yeah that is Mr C of the shamen, hes turned out to be a really good DJ, kind of acid/tech house..really good though. ill check out the ASOT radio show..as for a british music website..i`d head to BBC radio 1 and go to there dance section. theres loads of online mixes, news and charts.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/index.shtml?hp_lhn

also check out a webstie called "livesets.com" , register (costs nothing) there, go to the forums and you can download for free loads of mixes by all the famous djs, its really good.

http://www.livesets.com/

do any of you use P2P networks?

rock still is the most popular genre of music... i cant understand how u listen to this kinda music (techno stuff: i believe house and trance come under the same category) ... its irritiating... in rock u have everything, u can listen to wild things when ur excited like metallica, u can listen to relaxing things when ur relaxed like the doors for example, u can listen to love songs when ... ur in love like guns n roses bon jovi and aerosmith... and so much more....

with ur **** music its the same annoying thing... that beat they use, its always there... its irritiating, as if some1 keeps poking u on ur head...

anyways its a matter of taste... only my taste is much better

Thank God for this thread! Or thank Matnat
I`m into house mostly, but i can handle techno and drum and base as well.I do like rock and pop too i have to admit.Anyway, since you`ve mentioned Carl Cox,Fatboy and Darren,i`ve been listening to them a lot and this year they have all been to Exit festival in Serbia(long time ago i wrote about it here but nobody cared too much).Carl Cox was amazing,Darren too.Jeff Mills was here several times already. I don`t know if you`ve heard of Sandy Rivera,Tom Stephan aka Superchumbo,Sasha,Marky & Patife(Brasil) Joris Voorn(Holland),Fabio & Bailey and MC Rage,Annie Mac(all coming from UK`s BBC Radio 1) but they are quite good.I met them all personally since i`ve worked at the press centre as a translator. They are really great guys.Carl Cox is not a man...he`s a mountain!!!! His performance vistited over 30 thousand people this year.It was GREAT!
The thing is....exit festival takes place at the fortress and has over 25 stages. The biggest and most visited stage apart from Main Stage is Dance Arena, the biggest dance arena in the Eastern Europe, and that`s where these guys played.
If you`re interested check out www.exitfest.org
You`ll find some pictures and articles over there as well.Every year loads of British people come here so i don`t know if you`ve heard about it.
Great thread
P.S.
when Giovanni pops in i`m sure he`ll love this thread too, becuase he`s into these stuff as well

P.P.S.
Anyone likes Junior Jack(Vito Lucente) and Benny Benassi?

A few of my favourite online stations are
http://www.puredj.com/ and http://somafm.com/ and by far Soma FM is my all time favourite.

I will check out livesets.

MATNAT:
of course i have heard of Sasha and Digweed. Who hasn't lol. Their Northern Exposures albums are legendary. However, I have totally phased out of their brand of house music. I really prefer the Nick Warren and Dave Seaman kinda of prog house. Nick Warren has a new Global Underground album out GU: Shanghai which is just breathtaking. Sasha's new album Fundacion is no match for his earlier "GU: Involver" or the excellent "airdrawndagger". Highly recommend Shanghai.

I am not entirely sure as to what is popular in Canada at the moment. Canada is a big country you know lol. In Ottawa, two years ago we had the Sasha/digweed craze. Last year we had the Armin Van Buuren craze. This year it seems to be more house. Tastes change I suppose. Either way, I was never into dnb except for the bukem.
as for paul oakie - can't stand him. he's for 12 year old wannabe djs

ariel:
the only person i have heard of is benny benassi and he's alright. not a big fan. this thread is awesome.

mk18:
if you don't like the music, no need to criticise it. keep an open mind. i used to be a hard rock/heavy metaller and i liked the kinda music you currently like now. i was big into bands like faith no more, testament, slayer, skid row, metallica and gnr, soundgarden, anthrax, and i used to listen to thin lizzy, the doors, led zeppelin and i acknowledge that these are legends in their own right. I still listen to them now and then depending on my mood. The only metal i seem to listen to now sometimes is "All that Remains" and recently i had listened to Kreator's new album. I know that if i was 7 years younger, I would have been all over those two albums but my tastes have mellowed out. However, I am not so closed minded as to reject any good music outright Anyway, respect the tastes of your Milan brothers.

look im not critisizing ur music or anything... but alot of my friends like it and it just cannot cross my head how people can like it... u have ur own opinion, who am i to change it right??.. to be honest i couldnt care less what u listen to... but im just asking what is it that makes u guys like this music... personally i like my music because it more glamorous, more under the light and mainly more legendary (i have an obsession with legendary people and things) ... i love their lifestyle, i love the instruments they use, i love the personality... theyre just cool! ... for the record i hate the new rock and i hate death metal.. could u explain to me why u like this kind of music and these DJs??? ... there must be an extra some that makes this thread 'so great'

i wish i could say it's an acquired taste but it's not even that. Trance is very very popular worldwide. It's just not played on the radio that much. You probably would like it if you listened to the right stuff. we are obviously not talking about 2 unlimited here lol. we are talking about dj's who are good at what they do, just as slash is good at what he does.

why do i like the music? because it's ambient and omnipresent at the same time. it's high energy and relaxing. i don't like it for their lifestyle lol. i don't care for the people who produce these tracks nor do i care for the personal lives of these DJ's. they are not tabloid, rock magazine heroes like Axl Rose was. A wonderful quality about most of these Dj's is, no matter how BIG they get, they will still answer an email, and you can probably call them on the phone and talk to them without having to go through 2000 PR people. They will help up and coming talent get exposed by mixing in one of their tracks into their sets.
as for their instruments, some people love them for that too, but not me. i don't care what equipment they use. someday when i become a dj i will lol

thats cool ariel!! i actually listened to annie mac on radio 1 from the exit festival and managed to catch felix da housecats set...he was rocking!!

ive heard and like all the artists youve mentioned and your right about COX he is the daddY!! lol

as for junior jack im currently downlaoding a mix of his from livesets.com, he played at pacha in london a few weeks ago

heres the link (right click and scroll down to "save as") voila!!

http://www.livesets.com/forums/showt...threadid=64283

hey nadir you like somafm...you must like the duo slam? there really good, i have a few of those global underground mp3s from the likes of digweed, sasha and emerson..

here is the link for the trance section of livesets, check it out as theres a few mixes by armin van burren

http://www.livesets.com/forums/forum...?s=&forumid=34

and to mk18 the reason why i like this music is because there is such diverse types of house music. from the soulful, jazzy, sophisticated sound of MAW, to the evil loops of jeff mills, to the all out madness of a fatboy slim or darren emerson set (you should check out his NYE set on Bondi beach 2002, one of the best sets ive ever heard).. its all about the banter with house music, from the initial party to the afterparty it can sometimes go on for days its a bit like starring in your own "Benny Hill" show...

p.s. does anyone know how to "zip" music sets and compress them to half the size (i can do it but it seems to reduce the file by only a few kiobytes)?

and does anyone know any site where by i can host sets/files for free download?
