They gambled. A lot. And sure...Covid accelerated their downfall in terms of finances. It wasn't something anyone could predict....but they put all their eggs in the Ronaldo basket. Their wage bill is astronomical.
All I'm saying is...we can jump at opportunities. I'm all for it. But the opportunities have to fit the plan.
Not only look at Juve. look at Inter. They threw everything at winning the league but at what cost. Zhang has asked all the players to take a 3 month pay cut.
great. they won the league. but there's no money now and they're asking the players to pay for their overspending.
Meanwhile we've halved our losses in a Covid year.
The Ronaldo case IMO was a case of Juve jumping on an opportunity without fully hashing out a proper plan. They thought Dropping Ronaldo into the team would magically just work and win them a UCL.
(05-11-2021, 04:00 AM)nefremo Wrote: [ -> ]Anyway....my point was that the whole "xyz club sold millions of $ worth of shirts in the first hours, or months, or years" is a myth. Maybe they did, but they definitely didn't pocket more then a few percent of that. In Juve's case...I don't think the revenue from Ronaldo's jersey sales even covered a quarter of his salary.
They didn't pocket all that much. I had ready somewhere that the Adidas deal allowed them to take home 12% which is much higher than normal... But 12% is still peanuts.
The real benefit for Juve was the Jeep deal and Adidas deal that jumped up as a result of signing Ronaldo. IF we signed someone like him or Messi, it would need to be at the right time so we could negotiate new deals for shirt sponsors or the "commercial benefit" goes to waste.

"According to Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus have sold more than one million shirts since the arrival of the Portuguese star, 1,315,000 to be more precise (as of the time of reporting). That volume, at an individual price of 130 euros (more or less what an official shirt would set you back), brings in a global sales revenue of 170 million euros. Clearly there are manufacturing, distribution and other costs associated with that figure and not all the profits go to the club. But it's a clear sign.
170m means 20.4m sold over the last however many years. it wouldn't even cover half of one seasons wage.
The biggest benefit is the sponsorship money that's increased.
the biggest problem with that way of thinking though is all that was to win UCL. Once Ronaldo leaves, so do all the bandwagoners. Juve will drop back to similar to what they were before when it comes to marketing.
There's no doubt that it made sense at the time but they desperately needed to win UCL to get any long term benefit from it. Add Covid and they've gone backwards(as has most clubs).
It was a risk that was worth taking but was poorly executed.
they needed more than to drop in Ronaldo and hope for the best. It's clearly failed.
Inter can't pay for there player's! They should be demoted to Serie B for such breaches!
Give us Barella and De Vrij.
Would like a Romagnoli-Kulusevski trade please!

Many news that coming up against Inter are mostly fake and made up

The few I've taken note of came from ZHang's comments himself. Saying they need to cut costs ASAP because of Covid.
And this mornings one came from the club... apparently. We'll see soon I suppose. Would be good to see Inter go Bust. would be the best actually. lol
also.
Tuttosport claims (being Tuttosport can probably take this news with a grain of salt)
IF we make UCL
Gigio and Hakan stay
Strikers - Belotti, Malen, OR Vlahovic
RW - Ikone, Ilicic AND Orsolini
No UCL
Gigio and Hakan go
Strikers - Scamacca or Eduoard
Roma and/or Leao could be sold.
IMO...
Gigio and Hakan should go regardless.
Striker option should be Belotti and Scamacca. Malen and Vlahovic would be expensive and not sure they've shown enough to warrant the price.
RW Ilicic and Orsolini would be good but that would mean both Saele and Samu need to go although I'm not against that at all.
Roma should be sold regardless. And not entirely against selling Leao. Only way he should stay is if he stays to play LW OR we change formation and play him SS(his natural position).
He's proven to not have what it takes to play Lone striker.

I don't think this would be feasible at first even if qualify for UCL, Hakan and Donna salary alone might scavenge a good chunk of our budget...
I would like to be in realistic and budget precise
Donna and Hakan should be kicked out whatever happens(unless some Qatari buys Milan
)
Striker- Belotti should be bought ASAP, he is Milan fan from his early days, would fight for the jersey, Ibra should be on bench, as simple as that
RW - I don't know why we are not targeting Matheus Periera of West Brom, he is great winger and can be deplyed as SS, versatility and pace.
Ilicic is old
Orsolini is one of the worst finishers from RW standard.
Idk much about Ikone
I would like to pouch on Berardi but again he is Merda fan who will not like play from his heart for the club
AM - RdP/Vlasic
For GK,
Marco Silvestri, this is the only position which I hate to spend too much money, when we have a non-existent ST, RW, he isn't the best in the world nor as good as Cragno/Musso/Maignan but he is cheap and does his job to precise, more like Abiatti. His contract is running in 2022, Verona are forced to sell him.
Roma, Leao should be sold, replacing them with Matthias Ginter/Izzo and Barrow resp.
an immediate substitute is required for Zlatan. we can't rely on him long term.,gets injured every 2,3rd game. He played to games in a row, then got injured, will probably miss the last 3 ones. Belotti and Vlahovich are most suitable names, maybe Belotti has more advantages because of his experience and work rate for the team, but also Vlahovich who has a very good season despite Fiorentina fighting relegation season long.
My dream summer mercato assuming we qualify for Champions League:
sign Depay for free
buy Belotti (money + Caldara)
renew Gigi and Calha
buy Kvaratskhelia (Kaladze make it happen!)
buy Tomori
sign Hysaj for free
and buy Lovato
sell Leao, Castillejo, Rebic, Conti

Just because for the first time in year's, maybe we won't be the one's to suffer.

I think Hakan should go 100%.
Gigio is difficult. Average fan's know he is a youth product and losing him would be a bad look, plus hey, he's talented. I think he's a very naive and Raiola takes advantage of this. I won't cry if Donnarumma leaves but I will be disappointed of sorts.
Malen is a Raiola client so I don't really want him based on that. Vlahovic at 60M is a joke even if he's looked good these past 6 months. Hakan, Piatek, Paqueta, Balotelli, Constant are some who looked good for 6 months.
We still need Belotti before Roma get him or Patson Daka ( I've mentioned him a few times) to back up and eventually lead from Ibra.
Sidenote: Some rumours suggest Gazidis will leave after this season due to the SL.
Maldini can take Gazidis' place and I'd love Rui Costa to come in to Maldini's role. A former player and one that knows what he is doing.
