In the past, quite a number of people accused him of not running enough, but statiscally he was often found to be the one who ran the most in our team (albeit he rarely sprints).
Those stats are actually the distance the player travel/cover in a game and not how much he ran.
True, but covering a large distance also requires a lot of effort and therefore is something that needs to be considered in this debate. I'd rather have Pirlo who covers a lot of ground intelligently than Flamini who runs a lot but needlessly expends energy with poor positioning.
True, but my point is that he might be only occupying a certain amount of space, like moving back and forth or at he was only walking from point a to point b. Personally, I just think Flamini is not suited to play in a 3 men midfield.
I would agree, Flamini should go. I would also argue, if we have the funds Van Bommel should go as well. That would give us space for 2 new young CMs we need. I realize Flamini is not old by any means, but he just doesn't fit. Not technical enough to be a box to box mid (Boateng outshines him, and really so does Ambrosini), and he just doesn't have the tactical acumen or timing to ever be gattuso replacement or play the Anchor. If I had my way we'd grab Montolivo, who I rate more in a box to box role, and fits perfectly Allegri's idea of a mezz'ala. It's a pity we passed on Hernanes last summer as he's a perfect fit too. And for the other positon I'd look for a long term heir to Ambrosini/Gattuso. Maybe M'Vila but he seems expensive. Poli would be a nice prospect to groom. I love Lucas from liverpool, if he doesn't renew I could see him succeeding in Italy. But really that's only if it's attainable, otherwise keeping MVB one more year wouldn't be worst option to maximize funds for bigger needs, mainly a CM with technique, a proper AM or winger and a LB
Flamini van bommel and pirlo and cassano should all go .nesta will retire, we wont make too much money from these players leaving as half of them are either retriing or contract runs out but it will give us alot more to work with as far as wages go.. a 60M budget would be perfect tbh.. might be breaking the bank though for us if only we had the money real madrid had to spend on players year in year out they buy so many players but yet have nothing to show of it i dont know why. if galliani had a 100mill budget as tthey spend more then that just buying c.ronaldo & kaka that year then we would have trebles to show i guarentee it, its a sad situation tbh.
in: ganso,falcao,juceilei,mexes,astori,coentrao,marchetti
out:pirlo,flamini,van bommel,cassano,nesta,janku,seedorf
selling flamini and cassano ims ure will get us at least 15-25mill ?? add that on to a 60million$ budget (speaking in terms as if we had it, who knows its not a huge huge number were bound to spend at least 35-40 anyways) it could go like this ..
ganso(30m),falcao(12-15m),jucelei(10m),mexes(free),astori(5m),Coentrao(25m) = 85m
60m+25m sales = 85m.
this would be bad only in terms of were getting ride of 3 midfielders and only bringing in one.. maybe poli and montolivo too? i wish we would just invest everything we can this year so we dont have to keep waiting for mercatos and finallly be confident in the CL, the cl was my favorite games id wait for them for weeks thinking about it but we have failed to preform the last few years, actually since 2007.
thhis would work but we need a healthy budget
Why should Nesta retire? Just because he isn't up to his 2000-2007 standards doesn't mean he isn't a top quality CB. Who can we get who is better? Vidic/Pique/Cheillini? I don't really see any of them coming.
I'd like to see a young player who is doing well come in and slowly groomed to replace Nesta. Nesta can still give us 1-2 good years with a slowly declining role.
I liked Astori v. Ukraine, even with the bogus Red Card. He commands backline well, but I'm open to other options too.
Well, if Astori and Mexes are coming, which would mean Bonera, Papa, Janku, Oddo, Dilac and Legro are going. On top of that, Astori can fill in as Both FB if needed. Thus, I see a back line of Abate, Nesta, Silva and new LB, with backup of Zambro, Antonini, Yepes, Mexes and Astori.
Midfield will be interesting, as I really can't see Galli spending money and getting 3 quality midfielders and sellin Flamini while not renewing MVB, Pirlo, Slowdorf and Ambro. At the end, I think Milan midfield will consists of Flamini, Gattuso, MVB, Ambro, Boateng, Merkel and Urby with only Ganso coming in.

The way I see it... Papa out, Astori in
Oddo out.... some left back in.
I'm cool with Nesta, Thiago, Astori, Yepes, Bonera, Abate, Antonini, Zambrotta, and one of Criscito/Cissokho/Taiwo/Kolarov (names we've been linked to)?
For midfield, i basically want to add a pirlo deputy and an AM. I can't stand watching out football without pirlo, no cohesion, no organization, no posession game. So ugly... but it's what you expect with a flamini, van bommel, gattuso midfield i suppose
Pirlo is too slow and too static for the modern game, unless he plays as the CAM, and the whole team is build around him.

I'm quite surprised you'd both let papastathopoulos go as he's better than Bonera and Yepes. Plus, if Nesta does retire we'll need some depth in the squad. I'd give him a chance!
Yepes and Papa are both solid, I would even say very good defenders. The problem is we compare them with Nesta and they will never be good enough in that case. For example I am watching Chelsea right now and Luiz is struggling against Stoke, was actually at fault for Stoke's goal....so it really depends how we are willing to judge players.
