I consider Silva starting caliber. Auba & Silva up front with Kalinic as a backup. Plus you have to figure we'll be playing 50+ games RE: Summer transfer window 2017 - Nicolas - 07-22-2017 (07-22-2017, 09:53 PM)AC_Troy Wrote: I consider Silva starting caliber. What do you mean "on top of that"? I think we are all expecting a starting star striker. Than, I think the wide belief is that Kalinic will also come on top of that star striker. The only "given starter" at that point will be that star striker, with Andre Silva and Kalinic battling out for that other striker spot (assuming we play with 2 strikers like a 3-5-2 or something similar). I do agree with you that Kalinic is way overpriced at 25mil, and anything about 18-20mil would be overpaying. I am also not set on this whole thing. Spending way over 100mil (Andre Silva + star striker + Kalinic) on strikers alone seems like too much. On the other hand, IF we are playing with a 2 striker system, there simply is a necessity for strikers. We can not only play with Andre Silva and Aubameyang (just as an example here, but insert whatever name you want), and have Cutrone backing them up. We will be playing in 3 competitions and that's a lot of games. We WILL need 4 strikers no matter how you look at it if this is the formation. Ideally, we would have kept one of Bacca/Lapadula to be a back up instead of spending money on Kalinic, but clearly those 2 wanted to leave/don't fit with Montella. To spin this a completely different way....I think we should play a 3-4-2-1 with 2 AMs (Bonaventura/Suso/Calhanoglu) or a 3-5-1-1. That way we don't need to pay all this money for Kalinic and can only focus on getting that star striker. We would, however, need to add another CM or AM if that's the case. Keep in mind though, with this formation Andre Silva probably lands on the bench for a while and Cutrone gets even LESS space. Let's just see what happens. Milan TV is saying that Kalinic is still on the back burner regardless of some of the other reports we've seen lately. Must say I disagree on this, Auba has done nothing in his career to suggest he's like Balo or Icardi. Those two have always had attitude issues and constantly create controversy on and off the pitch. Aubameyang doesn't have a history of controversy, in fact I don't think I ever remember him doing anything to have his professionalism to be called into doubt. If anything, he's shown himself as a family man, dedicating his goal celebrations to his son. The only thing that suggests he might have a bad attitude is he's got a unique sense of style and fashion. However, judging him on that alone would be unfair. Frankly speaking for all I care he can show off flash cars if he wants, as long as he acts correctly in the dressing room and the pitch and doesn't create unnecessary controversy that can be disruptive. RE: Summer transfer window 2017 - nefremo - 07-22-2017 Agree. I don't ever remember any news putting his professionalism in question. RE: Summer transfer window 2017 - slifersd - 07-22-2017 (07-22-2017, 08:20 PM)Kastriot Wrote: Ok I will state something that is kind of a question. Well, Kaka cost us 8M when we signed him and he went on to become a Ballon D'or winner. In that sense, why would we pay more than 8M for Kessie? Is Kessie the better player between the two? The thing about transfers is, it is not always just the quality of the player that determines the price. There are a lot of factors involved such as length of contract, financial state of the current team, agents, player relationship with current team and how much current team paid for the player to begin with. In Sanches' case, if you want the player, you have to pay up because Bayern paid a lot of money to get him a year ago. They are not going to sell him and take a 30M loss just because he didn't have a great season at age 19. Compare that to Kessie, who came through the Atlanta youth teams and cost the team almost nothing, and it is not difficult to rationalize why Sanches cost more. I am not necessarily crazy about the price either but to me the important thing is getting the player. Atlanta and Bayern are not the same team and to rationalize that just because we got a discount negotiating with one means we have to get one from the other is not realistic.
