RE: Milan Management - ACMILAN1983 - 04-12-2018 I came across an interesting discussion about footballing heritage and what it means and it got me thinking. In part, this is on the back of Mourinho's recent rant about football heritage during a press conference. It also made me come to some conclusions on what we need in Milan. I think we have in some parts the basis for a successful future. We've invested in young players of quality and in Gattuso we have a coach with clear ideas and an undertanding of what it means to be in Milan. The squad still needs work, but foundations are in place to build. Where we fail on the heritage department is having personalities in the club with a bond to the club and an understanding of what made Milan successful in the past. We have a couple, but none other than Gattuso wield any influence. It gets me back to believing we need Maldini to return to the club. A strong personality with very clear ideas and an understanding of what made Milan successful in the past. I believe his influence could be vital, especially for the young group of players. Obviously we need to get stability financially and understand our future in this regard, but I think once we know our future, approaching Maldini is a must. RE: Milan Management - AC_Troy - 04-12-2018 Maldini may do something with Italy RE: Milan Management - ACMILAN1983 - 04-12-2018 Well, he's commented he's spoken to Costacurta, but I doubt will accept any role until the situation with the FIGC is resolved. RE: Milan Management - WCmilan - 04-12-2018 I'm wondering why Maldini is waiting so long to get back involved in football. My guess is that he doesn't want to throw himself to the wolves as Seedorf/Inzaghi did perhaps, and is waiting for the perfect opportunity. Now is an extremely difficult time to have any significant role with Milan and even more so Italy, it entails a lot of responsibility given their situation. He's pretty much said that's his reason on multiple occasions. He's willing to work for Milan or Italy, but the position has to be on his terms and if not, then he's happy living his life outside football. RE: Milan Management - reza - 04-12-2018 Quote: “Dear AC Milan fans, RE: Milan Management - ACMILAN1983 - 04-13-2018 Fassone has given a lengthy interview too... https://www.milannews.it/primo-piano/gazzetta-fassone-avanti-con-mrli-e-con-2-3-acquisti-il-rifinanziamento-si-fara-non-siamo-obbligati-a-fare-cessioni-milan-a-elliott-no-291434 I can't translate the whole thing, but basically he reiterates his confidence in Li and the financial future of the club. The other big thing is he says we're planning on bringing in 2-3 players this summer to help add quality in critical positions. Edit: Here is part of it translated: https://www.football-italia.net/119852/fassone-2-3-milan-signings-gigio RE: Milan Management - ACMILAN1983 - 04-13-2018 The football Italian reports for the Fassone interview: https://www.football-italia.net/119855/no-cl-milan-no-catastrophe https://www.football-italia.net/119853/fassone-milan-finances-very-good https://www.football-italia.net/119852/fassone-2-3-milan-signings-gigio RE: Milan Management - slifersd - 04-13-2018 Maldini has a great life away from Italy and Milan. Not sure why he would want to get involved with the mess here to begin with. The reality is, Italian soccer, and Milan included, relies heavily on relationships and having friends in the right places to get things done. The good ol boys club is alive and well there. A straight shooter like Maldini is a terrible fit in that environment. Odds are, even if Maldini does work for Milan or Italian national team, his contributions would been very limited because of his out spoken nature and he would just end up getting frustrated anyway. |
