Summer Mercato 2016
I loved Seedorf's idea of football. It was the most enticing to me out of anyone that's been around for a while. The one problem I had with him was the way he handled some players individually....notably Balotelli. I can't understand to this day why he was so lenient with him when Balo did things completely opposed of Seedorf's philosophy (at least the way he described it).

But Seedorf wanted a fit team, a team able to press high, have the ball at all times and attack, always take the initiative. His idea was to play 3 attacking midfielders that moved around behind the striker without completely true positions in the attacking third while pushing the fullbacks all the way up to become wingers and provide width. All of that supported by a double pivot system. There was a couple of games under Seedorf's tenure where this philosophy came to light and they really were some of the most entertaining games I've seen Milan play IN YEARS. One of those was against Chievo I think. Even against Juventus we looked like the better team for a bigger part of that game.

The problems started when he was "forced" to go back on his philosophy and only go for points. I blame Berlusconi for this (THE VERY SAME GUY WHO BROUGHT HIM TO MILAN TO START A LONG TERM JOB). As soon as the team started not getting many points, (BECAUSE THEY WERE SIMPLY UNABLE TO PLAY SEEDORF'S FOOTBALL DUE TO LACK OF QUALITY) Berlu started doubting Seedorf and criticizing him (especially after some of Seedorf's comments) and you started to see Seedorf's team play for points rather than philosophy.

It's the same shit over and over again around this club. Berlu brings Seedorf from Brazil and that half of the season was supposed to be only a transitional period for what was to come. In the end, he ends up letting him go because he was only speaking the truth! 75% of that team was unable to play modern football......and I'm afraid that at least 50% of today's team is unable to do the same thing either. Yet, we'll find ourselves another scapegoat while Galliani waltzes around like a pelican making deals with his agent friends and lining up pockets.

That's why although I can see what Slifersd means by wanting Berlusconi to choose the coach......I have no confidence that it'll be different. He's already done that like I said. We've seen that movie once. It'll make no difference. The only thing that can save us right now is another big investment this summer and pray that whatever coach they bring in can get things in order quick and get some consistent results..........because if he doesn't....whether it's his fault or not, the attacks and confusion will start again creating all types of pressure on the squad/coach, no matter if Berlu is the one that chose the coach. This man has no shame. Do you honestly think that he'll all of a sudden be sensible and say "i chose this guy and now i can't complain about it"? It won't happen. They'll find a way to blame the coach again. I mean come on......you are talking about a guy who "made" Seedorf quit his footballing career to come coach Milan, and than turned against him within a couple months!!! Berlusconi has no shame! Don't expect that to change now.
Completely agree here. Balotelli to me was a lost cause so Maybe he just game up on him?
I loved the way we were playing with a forward three. We wouldnt be in the posistion we are now iff we continued with the same setup.

Although I can see what Slifersd means. Montella, I feel, would have done better with the team. But then again how long till Silvio gets bored of him to and wants to get rid of him?

The only fix for Milan is for the two idiots to go and let someone else take charge.
Coach wont matter be it Seedorf Montella Brocchi Prandelli DiFrancesco Emery.It.Will.Not.Matter.The coach will be undermined abused in the press not supported told who to play what formation to play and expected to compete with Juve with a sub-par thrown together midtable squad with a couple of promising youngsters and Bonaventura , he'll see Bacca replaced with Pavoletti or an equally average forward and have to deal with Boateng and Balotelli who will be redeemed and loan extended IMO , Bertolacci Poli Mauri Montolivo possibly 1/2 piss poor new mids.
As long as the owner remains the club be a shit abyss.
Kovacic rumours are growing, with it looking more possible.

I would suggest we keep the discussion about management/coach in one thread (Milan Management thread). Currently this discussion seems to be ongoing in two threads and honestly it's kind of difficult to know where to post about it Big Grin

The rumours regarding Kovacic is for a dry loan, with no option to buy. I don't like that kind of deals. Either we get an option to buy or we look elsewhere...

So Kovacic will be our summer distraction along with Ibra and Witsel and some top forwards after we sell Bacca. With none being signed.
A loan of Kovacic is pointless if he does very well he'll go back to Real and be sold to the EPL for 35m or more if he does crap he'll go back.
After the mercato of last year where Romagnoli and Bacca were very good signings and Kucka a nice pickup one would hope its built on , but with an enormous loss and no european football again I see the mercato being book balancing and quite terrible.
I just saw it was a dry loan. If so would be a major disappointment, though from what I gather that's from the Spanish media.

Also we're looking at a Bari youngster Castovilli:

I know nothing about him other than he plays midfield.
I don't see this happening. There will be others willing to offer straight cash for Kovacic.
EPL teams will pay top €/£/$ for Kovacic.Milan wont I mean just that Berlusconi wants Brocchi because the cheapest option and then says to take Milan back to the top FFS....you couldnt make this shite up.

I agree for the most part, especially about his system.. It seemed the most exciting over our past 3 coaches, especially considering I'm not a huge fan of the football Mihajlovic seems to want to play. One thing though, as far as Balotelli goes, I think Seedorf realized that being tough on the guy doesn't work, how many other coaches did that and he just did worse things, like set off fireworks in the locker rooms? I think what Seedorf tried to do with Balotelli was good, and that was to actually have a relationship with him so he wouldn't act foolish out of respect more than anything else. Besides that, Seedorf absolutely needed Balotelli to be playing well, because we didn't have Bacca back then remember? Who would play, Pazzini? Balotelli, attitude or not, was still our (if not only) best striker option.

On Kovacic, the only way I see him coming here and not anywhere else is because he's been in Milano and he'll most likely play if he comes. He's a young guy I don't think he'd want three different leagues in the span of a couple years, it can be tough and just set him back even further. Plus, we may be able to use our relationship with Madrid, but doesn't mean they'll just hand him over. I'm against a dry loan, but usually when a player does well here on loan we might try to buy them. The problem is, if Milan is in shambles like this again next year I doubt he'll want to stay or even come here to begin with. Personally, I'd rather there be at least an option to buy, I hate when players are just here on loan. It automatically makes me not want them to do very well because it's sad to have them potentially leave at the end. Let's face it, if he were to do so well he'd want to go back to Madrid, it's like the pinnacle for any player who's good enough.

Personally, I still think Merda were dumb to sell him and buy Kondogbia. I was envious of Inter when I'd see Kovacic playing, the kids obviously super talented. Somethings not working out for him, but at his age I'd definitely take the gamble, because at worst he's still a solid player as good as he is right now, and would definitely start in this Milan IMO.

I would try to get ELS back to be honest, and try anything to buy Berardi and Kovacic this summer. Bring in Tonelli, Witsel, Kovacic and Berardi. I'd line up with a 4-3-3 which is personally my favorite.

-------Bonaventura-----------Bacca-----------Berardi------------
-------Kovacic-------------Witsel-------------Kucka---------------
---Antonelli-------Roma------------Tonelli-----------Abate--------
----------------------------Donnarumma----------------------------
