Rüdiger is no world beater, but, would help Gabbia grow further, IMO

The alternative is low wage, higher transfer fee for someone on the bench that isn't quite ready. Rudiger could come in on loan with an option to buy. In the meantime we could keep working to sign someone end of season who's a longer term solution.

The profile of players we can afford is a big question. Moncada, Massara and Maldini might be the best but that doesn't mean we can get players better than Szoboszlai. If Tonali is showing inconsistency - remember his transfer will be 25 minimum, could rise to 35 - someone like Szoboszlai is near the top of the realistic level we can get. Even Diaz will not be less than 25 and his salary is higher than Tonali for example. Not sure how much Szoboszlai salary will be but chances are lower than Diaz (Diaz rumoured full salary is 3)

Our players seem exhausted some games, We should honestly be looking into some quality depth. Doesn't have to be expensive. Hauge was brought in cheap, used as a sub and proved to be a very good investment.
Those are the best type of transfers for our depth. We cannot afford players like Sosa, Krunic etc that we've had. They add absolutely 0. While we need players off the bench we also need players who have a certain level of talent.

Someone like Diaz would be a costly exercise because of the wages on top of the at least 25m needed to buy him. Let's be honest. what CAM can we get for 25m other than Diaz or a Szoboszlai type signing? Unless we can convince Eriksen to come over, that's the only arguably better player we could likely convince to come but Inter won't let him come to use cheap and won't be cheap wages either. We're much more likely to spend peanuts and end up with a Krunic vs a Hauge. |
