A lot of 'explanations' of his injury history and not playing regularly doesn't convince me that a RB like him is worth 7 or so. Easily 10 or even 15.
And up front, the fact that it's a 1.5 year loan is mind blowing. He still looks good when he plays and could easily be worth 20m with regular playing time. Calabria is a better player but only slightly in my opinion. Conti had good prospects & I understand him being sold because he doesn't have place to start, but not for 7m over almost 2 years! You can't buy scrap players like Krunic in the 30+ that cheap anymore.

Yeah, the best move would be a dry loan for 6 months then try sell him.
Why is Conti worth 15 or 20mil guys? What has he done since he's joined us? The answer is close to nothing. Injured. Get back. A couple good games. A couple bad ones....injured again. Rince and repeat.
He's got good tools. This isn't the question. But he's rarely been able to show them since he left Atalanta.
It wasn't entirely his fault. He played in a terrible Milan where even players like Kessie looked amateurish. He was also unlucky. Just when he was getting back to some sort of regularity, he got injured again. Came back only to find a player in Calabria who has now entered the best phase of his career and is at the current time, a much better player.
So, it is what it is. Maybe if we kept him for the next 6 months, give him game time AND he stays injury free AND gets back into form....we can then sell for 15-20 over the summer. But not now. No way is someone going to pay that. And frankly, to keep him and hope for that to happen....a bit of a risk (a lot of risk imo).

Some guys are being unrealistic here. Calabria is rumoured to be leaving for just 10M a few months ago so why should Conti being a inferior and older option be worth more than 10M? Nobody will pay 15-20M for Conti, he has been injuried/out of form for years. I will be disappointed if we are getting somebody like Conti for 15M.

I read somewhere 7M is minimum we can sell Conti for without a loss.
Pity. I liked Conti but his body just failed him here. I hope he gets fit at Fiorentina.
I think we should look at De Roon. Expiring contract, 29 and fits a lot of midfield slots.
The current economy is to blame. If Conti moves on he would fit for teams who can only afford 1m salary. Suppose it's 4.5 yrs deal, that's 9m gross extra. 9+7=16 sounds rather fair. If Simakan comes, he and Kalulu would both fit RB, meaning less time to play Conti to raise his value or renew with him.
On the bright side, though Milan is not economically outstanding, the path to bigger clubs for younsters get narrower. Bundesliga teams are active, but EPL and la Liga are not as aggresive in hunting and bidding up and offering bigger payroll.

I think both would do fine tbh. I like them both. Neither one is an AM though. They both play a bit further back in a pivot-like role. So I think they both fit what we need.
I thought the talk about Conti is about an obligation to buy.
On the timing...I wouldn't be worried. As long as the money is 100% coming (obligation to buy) it's all good.
