Mostly agree with you GeoTav. If we do get Tevez, then Maxi Lopez is definitely an overkill.
Also, I don't see why we can't splash 3-4 millions and sign Montolivo now. We have at least 4 old midfielders who are past their best - Ambro, Gattuso, Seedorf, MVB.
Surely, Montolivo can be better than any of them.
In the summer I would ideally let 2 of those midfielders go, and we need to start looking for replacements now.

Well why would they splash 3,4 million when they can get him for free in the summer, you know Galliani
This situation with Tevez is exactly the same as the transfer saga with Ibra. Just as Ibra described in his book, he agreed with his agent and Galliani that he'll only go to Milan or Real Madrid. And knowing that Barca would never sell such a player to Real they delayed the situation until the end of the mercato so Barca was forced to sell to Milan at such a low sum. The same is happening now with Tevez declaring that he'll only go to Milan, so I hope it turns out the same way as Ibra.

Ibra and Tevez case are different bc City really won't mind paying for Tevez as they already count him as a lost cause.

good midfielders arent very hard to develop. and besides berlu has never been one to splash a lot of cash for any midfielders or defenders.. he really spends a lot on attackers.. i think they will go for a more boateng/nocerino approach.. we paid barely anything for them two and one is world class and one is good wouldnt say great but very reliable.. you all should be aware a lot of players have world class ability but they arent world class, for example pato. some players just dont develop/ are missing a certain something to put them on a next level.. Boateng was missing how to shoot and pass last season, he got that and now considerably id say hes world class..
i have faith in mesbah as well for LB because hes fast and has a nice cross also quite strong on the ball, antonini is pretty fast but cant cross if his life depended on it

He spent a lot on Nesta, Rui Costa and Redondo
In his early time, there were Rijkaard, Gullit, Lentini,...

If he had the money Shaqiri would have been a not too expensive option...
