That's what I've been saying. LoL is Dota for kids
Well it is "buy to win" for the first couple of thousands matches, or however long it takes to unlock all heroes. After that it reaches what Dota has at the moment you install it
I've just googled for how long does it take to unlock all heroes -
http://forums.euw.leagueoflegends.com/bo...p?t=759281
apparently, it takes about 2850 hours of gameplay. And then there's the runes thing which i dont quite understand, but you need to pay for that too. A quote from that page:
Quote:And the funny thing is, once you have them all you can only play like 15 because you need runepages which are 6,3k each also.
So yeah, I think its safe to say LoL is a buy to win game
Wow, I love math
And:
Quote:Why would you want to unlock all the champions?
The number of champs doesn't relate to skill or rank or win rate.
When I were playing Warcraft Dota, my favorites are the orb walkers and some funny ones like Techies.
So who are your favorite heroes? And the ones you can play perfectly? How many?
You need all unlocked so you can create the good team that counters the enemy team?
I mean, heroes/champions have different roles and different skills. You cant just pick whatever you like to play and hope to win, because thats a road to disaster Some heroes excell as carries (the ones who get all the farm and kills and carry a team to victory), some are great supports that dont need any farm. Very few of them are good at both roles. Imagine your team is picked and you need a support, but all you can pick is a Shadow Fiend from dota...
its pretty much a guaranteed loss.
I'm not familiar with LoL heroes so I'll give you a couple of Dota examples, hope you'll know what I'm talking about
If enemy team has Lifestealer, you'll want to make sure your team has Bane, because LS has "Rage" ability which has a low cooldown and gives him magic immunity. Bane counters him perfectly because his "Fiend's grip" ability goes through magic immunity and effectively disables Lifestealer.
If enemy team has Storm Spirit you'll want to make sure your team has a hero with a silencing ability ("silencing" is basically stopping a hero from using magic abilities for the certain amount of time), like (obviously) Silencer or Skywrath mage or Death Prophet, because Storms physical attack is crappy and all the damage he does depends on magic.
If someone on your team has already picked Tiny you'll want to make sure you pick Wisp, because Tiny's damage output grows a lot if Wisp buffs him with his "overcharge" ability.
If someone on your team has already picked Faceless Void, you'll want to mage sure you pick Skywrath mage, because void's ultimate ability, the Chronosphere makes casting proper Skywrath's ultimate - Mystic Flare so easy.
There are hundreds of good combos in the game, but if you have only 5 or 10 or whatever the limited number of heres avaliable is, you wont be able to maximize your team's potential, which will almost definetly lead to a loss to a team that can combine team and counter pick yours.

Nice explanation, Stitch.
Why don't you counter Nalx's Rage with Faceless Void's Ulti And by saying my favorites involve orb walkers, I know about Silencer
Full hero set enables you great pool of strategies, but can you play well all of them LOL is surely easier so a full set is not required, so you don't need much money & time. In LOL there are 5 stable roles: Top, Jungle, Mid (AP carry), and the Bottom duo (AD carry & Supporter), and you can be one of the best by playing only one champion for one role (of course, competitive matches require more, but just one role and some champs).
So you don't need many champs, especially if you don't play seriously. Even if you play seriously there is a specific role for you, and other team can only ban 3 champs, so if you can play more than 3, it is very good, not to mention that they must also ban your teammates' best ones.
I agree that LOL is easier to learn, but it is still super super super hard to be the best, and it doesn't need much money beside electricity or net cafe hourly fee.
@xu: Pole dancing is an art, why there are some people underestimate it
I still dont get what "orb walker" is, theres no "orb walker" in dota
Imagine youre the last one to pick on your team, and all the roles but support are already filled. And in your champion pool you have only carries = the ones that are practically useless without a lot of farm. Your game is an automatic loss
I mean if you play with 4 friends all the time, its easy to coordinate and pick accordingly to what each of you have avaliable. Thats why pro-teams have roles - we all know Dendi is a mid for Na'Vi, and he tries to master mid-heroes. Same way for LodA and the Alliance, he is their carry and he plays heroes who fit that role.
But if you play solo in pubs, almost everyone wants to be a carry, and unless you have the right heroes to complement your team AND counter enemy team, winning is very hard.
Taking Dota heroes for example again, both Chen and Lich are the supports. But theyre so much different, Lich has nuke ultimate, a slow, and some lane control. Chen has none of that, but he is great for heals and pushing strategy with his creep controling ability.
So if your team is going for a fast push, picking Lich is not going to do anything for your team. And if you don't have Chen avaliable (or some other pushing supports), youre basically a liability in your team.
So yeah, if you want to win, you do need money, or a few years of grinding for heroes
I remember seeing some documentary or something a year or two ago about a girl who had a really serious illness and took up pole dancing as a form of exercise, which apparently helped her condition. She apparently set up her own school or something to teach others, but not in the "exotic" way, but instead as exercise. I found it pretty bizarre, as obviously pole dancing tends to come with some very different connotations.
As for the picture...
Stich: Oh, you can google "orb walker", it results immediately. Some orb walkers: Drow with Frost Arrow, Enchantess with Impertus, Silencer with the glaive that scale with Intelligent,...
Chen is also a Jungle and I like him in that role. Lich is a safe choice for me if some friends invite the untrained me now . Anyway, if you play pubs, why give up fighting the others for carry or mid role I still remember the phrase "mid or I feed"
Well, talking about Dota surely brings back nice memories. I'm not a LoLer's by any mean, just a conservative Warcraft Dota that lazy to change, and a lot of my friends are alike

Who is that? That's my last name!
Is this you Xu?
Oh, you mean heroes with Unique attack modifiers, as its known in D2
They were called Orb effects in WC3 Dota. I've never heard the term "Orb walkers" until now
I usually play support in pubs just to avoid that fights If your team fights before the game has even started, it can be hard to enjoy the game, so I usually take the easy way.
Are you familiar with the "Ability draft" mode in Dota 2? Thats what I enjoy the most for the past year or so. Youre given one random hero at the beginning, and you pick 3 skills + ult from a pool of skills, so each time you can create a different hero. Its so much fun!
If you care to download Dota (reminder: everything in the game is FREE ) I'll be happy to coach you back to form
