It is quite annoying to think that we are trying so hard for Romagnoli now, while Juventus already secured Rugani (who is arguably an even better prospect) months ago with a low cost of 3.5M (for half).

Can't say Kemen is particularly known in the UK, so am not surprised no one seems to have heard of him.

Anyway, Xu, I know what you mean about Rugani, but we have to remember the deal back in January/February was just a formality really. Rugani's been essentially a part of Juve since 2012 (before he was known to anyone really) and has been switching between them and Empoli since. It's smart business from them and really he's got a year or so to now bed in at Juve before really looking to earn a spot from probably Barzagli.

With Romagnoli, it's much more complicated, because he's confirmed his status as a top quality CB in Italy and is owned by Roma, who won't be as easy to deal with as Empoli. That, added to the changes in the market this summer in terms of inflation and his price naturally just skyrockets. Funny thing is, getting him just a year ago would probably have cost a third of the price at most.

However, on the positive side I think we have a couple of very young CBs of our own that we can potentially rely on in the future. In the Primavera, we have Ivan De Santis (still only 18) who's widely regarded as one of the best young CBs in the Italian youth system. The other is Rodrigo Ely (21), who honestly was considered a massive prospect when he was signed and has just come off a season where he was considered one of the best defenders in Serie B, as well as a few very good years at senior level out on loan. The difference between him and guys like Rugani and Romagnoli until now has been he's been less talked about because he's not Italian and has been playing in the lower leagues rather than going straight into Serie A. As we saw against Legnano and Lyon, the ability is there for him to be a very good defender, even excellent.

According to SportItalia, Zaccardo is still refusing all offers from other clubs. If it's true, then it's an annoying situation, especially now that we have to reduce our squad size.
Obviously a big part of the blame lies with the club itself, because he was given a contract until 2016. However, I can't stand players who do stuff like this, refusing to leave their club because they get paid well, even though they hardly ever get to play.

That's the price you have to pay when signing old has-beens with no ambition on long and expensive contracts. Hopefully we will learn from it.

2014-2015 Zaccardo is 900,000 after taxes, costing the team 1.7 million. Pretty sure only the likes of Agazzi and Albertazzi are paid less, may be only those two actually.

True, but that is probably still more than he'd be offered anywhere else at this point in his career.

Probably. Well with Galliani remaining in charge we will see these deals, hopefully not many of them anymore. The 25 limit coming next year will force his hand too. Even this season we have 10 defenders listed and buying another one too. We won't start the season with 11 defenders.

I wonder if the reason for the delays with Romagnoli and possibly others is related to Bee's purchase of the club. I remember hearing rumours that Finnivest "only" made 60m available to spend on the market, with further funds expected from Bee. There were also rumours that the Martinez and Kondogbia deals fell through partly intentionally on the part of the club, though I'm less certain of truth in that.

Will be interesting if the club confirms the signing of Romagnoli, Ibra or both soon after the sale is completed. Would explain a lot about recent delays/slowdown on the market.
