About Novarra wanting our youth, it's fairly normal because they've signed Mauro Perdozoli, who was our youth scout for the last year or two, so it makes sense he'll try to do business with us. I think it's a shame he's gone though, as he did a good job for our youth set up from what I gather.
Merkel has even appeared in the CL. I don't think a move to Novara would help him. I might be exaggerating but I think he is a reasonable back-up for our first team. If we however decide to give him first team experience, I think he should be loaned out to a low to mid-level team in Serie A.

Appearance in CL doesn't tell a lot of player qualification. Merkel is still very young and need tons of games. Milan plan to buy midfielder(s) which the midfield department will be fully loaded. I like when Merkel stays as backup but if Milan don't reduce the number of their midfielders, I would say yes for a loan move for Merkel.
If he get more chance to play as starter regularly in competitive Serie B club than just a bench warmer in Serie A (which I think he will be since he is just so young and not very talented player like Pirlo was for example), I would definitely like to see him play for Serie B club. Let's be realistic, Merkel is a prospect but as I said, he is not very talented player (he is indeed talented). His chance playing regularly in Serie A low-midfield club is not so big IMO since he is just a very young talented player. Maybe he will get some of games as substitute.

Merkel is one of the best youth talents out there.. I don't think loaning him would be smart, I think next season he's ready to take the step up and be a sub for our starting line up.. 5-10 seria a appearences/starts wouldn't do any harm . The only teams i'd loan him to are mid table teams in seria a i think palermo would be great or genoa or even udine if they keep selling and need a midfielder as he'll get CL experience there too maybe! Other then that i would keep him

Merkel arguably is our most talented youngster from our youth sectors probably in the last 5-7 years. I have heard some experts saying that he is the best of our youth. Leo brought him to first team, Allegri kept him there (that has to mean smth.)
You can not compare Merkel to Pirlo.Prilo arrived in Milan at 22 years of age, Merkel is still 18. At 18 Pirlo was playing in Brescia (less pressure, less competition). He had all the time in the world to adapt himself to a role in a great club.
Do not dismiss Merkel so fast. This season he featured in a lot of games, next on he will be even more influential, at 22 he can be better than Pirlo hopefully.

Arsene Wenger has opened the door for Cesc Fabregas to quit Arsenal – and that means the Spanish star’s on-off move to Barcelona could finally happen this summer.
Reports in Spain claim the Gunners boss has given up hope of persuading his captain to stay, admitting he can’t hope to keep him given the club’s six-year trophy drought.
But Wenger won’t sell Fabregas to another Premier League team, scuppering any hopes Manchester City had of persuading him to move to Eastlands.
MundoDeportivo.com quotes Wenger as telling Fabregas: “I will let you go to Barcelona or Real Madrid, but not to the Premier League.”
Fabregas’ boyhood club Barcelona will be the clear favourites to land him, although they could yet face competition from Italian giants AC Milan and Inter as well as La Liga club Real Madrid.

I agree with KAstriot, Merkel has huge potential. He had a good run of games this season and showed exellent passing, vision and creativity. Remember he's 18.

Why someone want to loan out Merkel while sign Menez for backup is beyond me. Since Merkel can play in the CAM role, since that's where most would put Menez.
To me, Merkel is needed more to add good depth to Milan.
How many times must we "fly out" before signing this guy?
