I don't know what people here are so upset about. Modric is definitely world class. He does a lot of things better than Pirlo ever did. Is he up to pirlo in his prime? Nah... but he'd be an amazing signing
IMO one of the few CMs who can truly conduct a team. He's quicker, more combative and better defensively than pirlo every was. Pirlo has more range of passing, possibly more vision. Modric plays more like xavi than pirlo though. Almost a xavi/iniesta hybrid. I'd LOVE him in CM with a player like Hamsik at CAM, but it's unlikely we get both. I think I might prefer him to hernanes because he plays at a higher tempo than hernanes (and pirlo for that matter). Kind of a more modern take on the maestro CM position... 
Modric has never had a chance to play for a big club which can utilize his abilities the best. We used to say that Sneijder was not world class until he successed at Inter. So how could we compare Modric to Pirlo?
Anyway, I'm still happy if he is Mr.X (though he is only 1m70). Other rumors: - Leo wants Borriello at PSG. - Flamini and Oddo want to leave, both have an expiring contract. Leo, why don't take all of them with you

one thing about modric that always impressed me is how strong and physical he plays while being short. Look at his legs... they are zanetti size (to his proportions that is). Must be hard buying pants, haha
Flamini wants to leave?! This is wonderful news... we can use him to get hamsik. If you think about it from Napoli's perspective... 25 mil + flamini is a good deal. They get a CM to go with gargano. They will likely get Inler. They could easily get Diego or Menez for cheap too. Use rest of money to get someone like Zapata. Obviously not saying they want to sell Hamsik, cause he's awesome but you could make the case.... --------LAvezzi--Cavani ---------------Diego----- ----Gargano--Inler--Flamini Criscito--Zapata--Cannavaro--Maggio Is a strong all around team for them. Back to us... El Shaarawy is ours. We will bring him slowly. That's why someone like Hamsik is a great buy because he can play both CAM and LCM/RCM mid, so if El Shaarawy develops quicker we have room for him. If we could get Modric in addition, I'd be ecstatic but I'd settle for Aquilani.

Modric NOW is NOT in league with Pirlo at his prime, period. And IMO he isn't reaching there.

Another thing I like from Modric is his quickness in decision making. We really need player like him because our players move a lot under Allegri. Aquilani is an option for his Serie A experience, but Modric will add something more explosive.

Or kind of a modern take on pirlo I like aquilani too. He's capable of it too.... only italian midfielder who is geniunely creative aside from pirlo

Adding Modric to our current roster would be brilliant, he's like someone said, modern version of Pirlo... Not so brilliant at long range passes as Pirlo, but definitely great playmaker... With his age he should be already in a big club. I smell something here, why until now he has not got that chance aka why no big club dare to sign him? We already heard his name since so many years (mrki's favorite player to write in his post) but he makes only progress until Tottenham. He had never chance to play big club, it SHOULD has something to do with his quality. About Sneider, it is only one success story where there many hyped players ended much worse. I doubt he is great playmaker, he is even not playmaker IMO. As someone said, he is not Pirlo's type (has great vision and creativity, can change the style/tempo of the game). He is a more central midfielder who can decide fast when and where to pass but he is not that good at playmaking the game. With him as left CM our play will be stuck if we play Boateng as CAM and Bommel+Gattso/Flamini as DMC and MRC. I prefer a more creative one than Modric. If we get creative left CM, Modric will be great to play as right-central midfielder.

Modric is a good player, I would not take him over Hernanes if I have the choice to take one of them. Interestingly enough, I think both of them can co exist in the current Milan formations. Maybe they will be the two Mids that Milan signs.
Napoli can't afford to have Flamini wages on their team as that will offset their whole team balances. I think Flamini will probably head back to EPL, as that's only place where the teams is willingly to pay his wages. |
