For some strange reason, I am addicted to playing Euro Truck Simulator. I can't figure it out but the game is addictive! It is almost like a meditation.

Saw a "let's play" for an American truck simulator and totally get why you'd be addicted. I was watching it and something about it just made me want to play Big Grin

Quick comment on gaming, as I haven't mentioned anything for a while, but lately I've started MGS5 and while I'm still getting used to the new structure, I really like it. Outstanding game design and stealth gameplay aside, the game is much more open than before and rather than telling the story in a big screen cinematic style, it follows a more small screen tv show approach, with each main mission effectively being an episode complete with credits scenes at the end. It's all really clever too, with support from helicopters and animals, real time weather and day/night cycles, with the environment influencing the gameplay (i.e. guards have clear visibility on a sunny day, but will be effectively blind during a sandstorm, or have reduced visibility at night etc).

Also, Hideo Kojima, the Metal Gear franchise creator has officially left Konami and formed his own studio (still Kojima Productions) that will partner with Sony. He spent the last month or so going around departments in Sony's Entertainment division to get ideas on his next game. For those wondering who he is, he's one of the most important and influential creators in the history of gaming and for pretty much the past year stuck in an odd break up with Konami, who it seems pretty safe to say are nothing short of garbage.

Finally, it wouldn't be a post about gaming without a mention of Final Fantasy. Gameplay footage of the FF7 remake came out in December and looks interesting (though it will be released episodically, which I'm hesitant on):

and a new trailer of gameplay from FF15 was released a couple of weeks ago, showing a little stealth gameplay and magic. Must say it looks awesome (see next post)

Unfortunately, there's a restriction of one video per post on the forum, so here's the FF15 video:

The thing is I played is so much that there is nothing to do now. I'm making like 5million a day from all the drivers. And yet I am playing. Driving used plastics from Innsbruck to Manchester. He he he

That FFXV video does look really good and the new battle and other in-game mechanics will certainly be interesting to learn. Any guess as to when it will be released? They're supposed to announce the release date in March so that makes me believe it won't be released until much later this year (holiday 2016 perhaps?)

I also saw the news on FFVII some time ago I'm not too sure how I feel about it being released in episodes. It will take a lot of work on their part to space them adequately and provide enough content per episode that people are satisfied. Especially because FF fans are known to be very understanding...Big Grin

No idea when the release date will be, as they're keeping it close to their chest for the event you mentioned next month. I'd argue a sensible time frame to aim for is actually around September. The end of the year (pretty much mid-October onwards) will be very competitive as always and so it might not be the best idea to challenge the competition then.

Likewise, we're in for some big titles between now through to near summer, with stuff like Uncharted 4 still to come out and latest news suggests Persona 5 is due for release for summer 2016 (presumably a Japanese release). SquareEnix would probably want to avoid clashing too much with these games (Persona 5 is direct competition). That's where September seems a smart choice to me, as I'm not aware of any major titles releasing around that time at the moment, leaving it open for Final Fantasy XV to dominate the headlines and public mind space.

The other aspect of this is I think it would be detrimental for SquareEnix to go into an event in March to then come out and say the game will be released in November/December. Reason being that fans have been waiting long enough for this game (10 years to be precise), it would be really frustrating to then hear it's at least 9 months more before they get to play it (as you said, FF fans are known for being reasonable). Instead, it would be better for PR to come out and say the game's out in a handful of months, the wait is well within sight. I also believe they are planning one more demo before the game gets released, one that will be available for all unlike the last one. If that's the case, they will surely have that available at the point of the March event or as an E3 announcement.

On FFVII, I kind of get why they would release it in episodes, in that they don't risk a FFXV situation again (huge development time). However, as you said it's all dependent on how the episodes are broken up and the amount of content in each. The other aspect is what the episodes are, I've heard all sorts of stuff like it could be 3 episodes, the first being the original game, the others being sequels or they literally will split the original game. It's a crazy idea that I doubt is true, but point is we know nothing right now. The other aspect of this is they say each episode will be a full sized game, which could literally mean anything, but if it means expect up to 15-20 hours of content in each, then realistically don't expect a lot of episodes, instead it will be structred more like FFXIII, a trilogy with each release coming out every other year or so.
